Hi Chris.
Where do you get your ABS?

Hi
Are you using Skeinforge 5D code (Dimension activated)? If so you can alter the retract settings. Restart extra distance sets the extruder to deliver more plastic than it retracts.

Hi
With the Mendel you can use Skeinforge 5D code which has a retract function that sucks back the extruded plastic by an amount that you can control in parameters. Having said that I don't have to adjust temperature between layers when printing PLA.

Thanks
I was hoping to use just a single higher voltage supply if possible so the power supply is as small as possible. Eventually I am going to house the components under the Mendel.

Hi
I am using a home built version of Adrain's Pololu electronics as exactly as per his schematic.
I have just completed a heated bed to Adrian's design using nichrome. The bed resistance is 1.5ohms.
It runs fine but the bed temperature maxes out at 93 degrees.
I want to try ABS and I understand I need to go hotter.
The Pololu drives state a motor voltage range of 8 - 35 V.
The 5volts for

I put a 10 ohm resistor on the 5 volts but the 12V is still at 10.5.
However I also connected the power legs of the mosfet and the 12 volt for the bed direct to a different 12V connector on the power supply and the temperature feed back is now stable. I will try another power supply at some time.

Hi
I use batch files to start Skeinforge. One renames replace.csv with replace.emc and the other renames replace.csv with replace.host. A third one deletes replace.csv for testing.
The second line of the batch file actually starts skeinforge. Simple one click operation.

Many thanks.
What would you use for a dummy load on the 5V. Would a resistor be suitable? Does it need a minimum current to work?
Clearly the grounds are shared. I need to seperate them some how. Will the mosfet work without a common ground?

Hi
I have built a version of Adrians Pololu/Mega electronics with home made PCBs using a thermistor for temperature feed back.
It has been running well but I decided I would add the heated bed as per
I have just started testing. Every thing seemed fine on test using the Host to
control the bed heater. I then noticed that when I turned the bed heater off
the reported bed temperature jumped

Hi
Can you post a behold view and a photo of the resultant object showing the actual problem. I just noticed first you said it was printing at the top of the raft and later that the fill did not touch the perimeter so I am now not sure what you mean.

Hi
I don't think you can have the extruder stepper driven easily on a different shield to the XY & Z axes because of timing. Can you connect a 4th axis to the mega so you can have true 5D control. I am still not clear as to how you are controlling the CNC. Are you intending to use the Reprap software or a different CNC controller. If it is the Reprap it may pay you to reconfigure your Mega s

Hi
Are you trying to run an extruder with stepper motor or trying to operate a heater?
Please explain how you want to use the the sheild and for what purpose?

Hi
I don't think Skeinforge can handle 2 extruders. Your best bet might be to ask Enrique.

Skeinforge
Hi
Skeinforge has a file called replace.csv.
You can use it to change output and even kill commands.
Mine is as follows and produces code that works fine with the standard firmware.
M108 ;
M113 ;
M101 ;
M103 ;
G1 E20.0 ;
G1 E0.0 G92 E0
M104 M109
M109 S20 M104 S20
Note thats it must be a TAB character between items. The last line is "M109 S20"TAB"M014 S 20"
I suggest you set skeinforge expor

Hi
Can aliencnc control 4 axes?
If so you need to set up the extruder as the 4th axis. You can then produce 5d code from the host, repsnapper or skeinforge. I personally use skeinforge. You can set it up to generate A code for repstraps 4th axis extruders instead of E that a reprap uses to control the extruder
Can you provide a link to aliencnc? As Sebastien sugested a switch to EMC2 migh

Hi
You can check visually very quickly in Skeiniso.
I just tested version 10.11.05 & it centered the object in the raft OK on my settings.

Hi
Best to test from a terminal without using the host.
Details in this thread:-
Make sure you have the baud rate set correctly for your firmware.

Hi
You can upload firmware direct into the chip without using a bootloader using the USBtiny. I had to use this method with Sanguinos which I could never get to work with a boot loader.
Details here:-
I added a line:-
sanguino.upload.using=usbtinyisp
to the sanguino section of boards.txt
Normal upload button then uses the USBtinyISP instead of the standard USB cable.
No other boards are a

Firmware - mainstream and related support
OK
Well I spent Friday afternoon lost in Linux.
However after a lot of reading and learning I have now got 5DA compiling and uploading to my Mega using the make commands.
I now need to understand the config files.
More immediately I changed some of the files and I had to revert to the originals (I have now set my editor to version backup so it should not happen again).
I did this by deletin

Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi
Well you asked for comments.
As normally a Windows user this has been an adventure.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
I first had to install Arduino using GIT.
Then build it with ant which meant I had to install ant and then a Java JDK of the correct flavour.
This took a while to figure out with a lot of false steps but eventually all done and Arduino works.
Next was the 5DA make.
That work

Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Hi Triffid
Thanks.
I installed git and got the files on a windows PC.
I assume you can no longer use the Arduino IDE ( my only experience of microcontrollers to date) so I am now going through the same process on a Ubuntu PC.
I think I understand most of the config.h apart from this section:-
#ifdef TEMP_C
struct {
uint8_t temp_type;
uint8_t temp_pin;
uint8_t heater_index;

Hi
I am a bit github challenged. Would you please post a link to the release candidate. I have a Mega pololu with thermistor on extruder and bed. If 5DA has the capability to support this configuration I will hopefully find some time to try it out.

Hi
T selects the extruder.
T0 1st extruder
T1 2nd extruder etc.
As for skeinforge run it on a simple job (that needs support) with support switched on in Raft. Have a look at the G code output. Even if it does not create the code you need you may be able to get the correct code with replace.csv which can be a very powerful tool.
