hey, i was looking through the extruder page trying to get up to speed on it, and was examining the brass bearings that need to be made. most people dont have access to a lathe (even afghan...) and i was wondering if that could be replaced with skate bearing directly attached to teh threaded rod with bolts. they're very nice / durable, easily available, metric, and cheap ($1/ea retail... lessby ZachHoeken - Developers
wow, ABS sounds awesome! i really need to get my hands on some. this is really getting exciting.by ZachHoeken - General
i've definitely dreamt of what it would be like to have a laser head attachment. that would rock. even if you couldnt do metal, you could probably do engraving. which is cool in its own way.by ZachHoeken - General
i agree. that type of document should definitely be put into subversion, even if it isnt in a finished state. dont let ed get all the fun.by ZachHoeken - General

i think it would be worth pursuing at some point in the future... as single sided boards would be much easier to produce. but for now i think the double sided boards work just fine. there are some improvments i listed that i would love to see (and would do if i could handle kicad) i know that i made the big deal about one sided boards... sorry i just didnt know enough back then =) ~Zach On 2by ZachHoeken - Developers
heres the thing: this isnt just about reprap making its own boards. its about it making any circuit board you can dream up. yes, it will definitely need to make its own boards, but this project is only about self-replication on the surface. what it is really about is creating a general purpose machine that can create amazing objects from a variety of materials with as little external input asby ZachHoeken - General
ah, i see... you are quite correct. that being said... would you mind then tweaking the current PCB designs? 1. adding via's for the power connectors on the comms board. 2. spacing out the traces on that board a bit more 3. adding via's for the power/signal connectors on the universal board. other than that, the boards themselves are pretty straightforward. i think that combined with more picby ZachHoeken - Developers
nice... thats a good price. $5.24 / lb. for abs. I think I'm going to start recording these in the wiki so we can keep track. now... can anyone beat that? Hey guys, I posted a thread in the forums about an article i wrote about the future of reprap and making its own circuits.... i'd love to get some feedback. _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Developers@reprap.orgby ZachHoeken - Developers
Hey, Check out this article i wrote about potential methods for using RepRap to automatically fabricate circuits. I'd love to hear your feedback, especially about things that may or may not be possible. ~Zachby ZachHoeken - General
those are definitely things i would love to see reprapped. i imagine once we get a machine out there, there will be a second generation of people who crop up to handle side projects like that. i really see the reprap project being roughly equivalent to the linux kernel, allowing others to build on top of the technology and come up with cool things like that in the same way that apache, gnome, kby ZachHoeken - Developers
if anyone feels like doing some calling / emailing... here is a huge list of plastics companies: On 2/22/07, Sebastien Bailard wrote: > Zach and I are also looking to go in on an order of ABS, and we'd like to find > a better price than the $7.40/lb villageplastics.com quoted me. hey all, i think we finally got all this web stuff sorted out. here's a short list of the changes: forums: forums.reprap.org main blog: blog.reprap.org reprappers: builders.reprap.org objects: objects.reprap.org and of course the mx records, so now the mailing list is on reprap.org i'll probably make a posting on the blog later today about our new website setup barring any objections to anyby ZachHoeken - Developers
well.. i'm still confused by that part, so i dont know how to separate it. would you kindly fix that paragraph so that it tells you what to do in the normal case, and move all the slave stuff to the bottom modification header? ~Zach On 2/22/07, Adrian Bowyer wrote: > Quoting Zach Hoeken : > > > i've soldered up my 2nd board, this time it was a stepper controller > > board.by ZachHoeken - Developers
oops! i was still in the habit of sending stuff to the reprap list. however, after doing the stepper controller board yesterday, i'm starting to come around to the double sided board. the major problem i was having with the board is the fact that you have to solder components to the component side of the board which can be really tricky, especially for the power connectors. it would be very tby ZachHoeken - Developers
Hey all, I just got my HDPE in the mail today!! They only had 20 lbs on stock, so they just shipped me that. It came in 4 5lb rolls and looks REALLY good. I really wish i would've built an extruder already... oh well, i guess now i have a goal, right? Anyway, whoever wants some, email me your shipping address and how much you want, then i'll ship it out ASAP. I'll get pictures up when i getby ZachHoeken - Developers
Simon, what program did you use to make the graphics for the stripboard electronics? those looked really really nice. i think even i could use that =) kicad leaves my head spinning.by ZachHoeken - General
just found 11 lbs on ebay for $50. add $15 for shipping and its $5.90/lb. probably only useful in the USA, but maybe not. the guy has at least 2 left. you may want to wait until i report back on the quality. YMMV.by ZachHoeken - General
not only is this material very strong and durable, it is also pretty inert. its a pretty nice plastic. i was reading wikipedia on it and found this nugget: The final properties will be influenced to some extent by the conditions under which the material is processed to the final product; for example, molding at a high temperature improves the gloss and heat resistance of the product whereas thby ZachHoeken - General

i've wondered this myself some times... i've seen 3d renderings from Ed, but it would be nice to have that stuff accessible on the web. i'd imagine once we get close to the 1.0 release, we'll move more and more of that stuff into the light. feel free to attempt and document stuff in an open format. i'll even help you get it up on the wiki.by ZachHoeken - General
yo, i've soldered up my 2nd board, this time it was a stepper controller board. it went really well, and was much smoother than the comms board... probably because of the experience i gained doing that. anyway, i have a couple observations to make: 1. via's are easy and awesome. i was pseudo worried that things would be really hard to solder and construct, but this board is really well designeby ZachHoeken - Developers
sure... lets each take a shot at it. its a really basic circuit, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made in the layout (the circuit itself would be exactly the same) ~Zach On 2/21/07, Sebastien Bailard wrote: > I'm interested in having a go at doing up a single-sided comms board. nice. the old developers list was a virtual treasure trove of information regarding reprap and fabricator machines in general. it would be a shame to deny that to the rest of the world =) On 2/19/07, Simon McAuliffe wrote: > Adrian Bowyer wrote: > > I suppose that, if we just all go through our old sent-mail folders and > > forward everything that was to reprby ZachHoeken - Developers
there are a year or two of emails at least... i say we remove all the private ones and then somehow try to merge the two indices. somehow i think that might be a pain. we could probably at least make the old one public or something.
