Hi,
Java already contains a couple of classes that should make i18n'ing simpler:
ResourceBundles:
The basic PropertyResourceBundle behaves much like your description of the Translate function.
MessageFormat:
As I'm sure you know if your a german speaker different languages have different word orders. For internationalizing this means that code like: Translate("before value ")+value+Transl

Force on it's own isn't particularly dangerous. A good example of this is ice, which can generate very high levels of force breaking glass bottles but I've never heard of ice exploding even when breaking a bottle the glass doesn't fly off it cracks and then falls off. The ice and the bottle have very little potential energy, it can only produce that force over a small distance when the glass bre

Have you considered making one of the RepStrap machines, such as the McWire Bot ?
Someone may be able to print a set of parts, but please don't underestimate the work/time involved. I don't know exactly how long it would take but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 100hrs of printing.
As for bitsfrombytes it seems that most people find the prices quite reasonable, hence their brief absence while

Thanks theorbtwo, i've changed that in my copy. I was ordering parts from maplin this afternoon and found a few cheaper alternatives.
2200uF cap was VH55K (35V 1.17UKP) now VH54J (16V 0.72UKP)
1000uF cap was VH51F (35V 0.72UKP) now VH52G (63V 0.61UKP) I don't get their pricing on this.
4 pin female header was L68AZ now discontinued. I've not found anything that's a suitable replacement yet thou

Hi,
On the silkscreen and in the old schematic a 220 Ohm resistor is used between the PIC and the TIP110. In the build instructions and the parts lister a 180 Ohm resistor is used.
Looking at the data-sheet for the TIP110 its max current draw is 50ma which should be fine for port B on the PIC, assuming we aren't driving anything else 'high' current.
So my question is do we even need the resis

Hi,
The resistors will be fine the trim pot adjustment makes the exact accuracy of these less important.
The BYW98/200 3A diodes look fine as well. The important requirements are;
- min voltage range -13.5V -> 13.5V (max currently used), -60V -> 60V (L298 max)
- min current rating 2A (L298 max)
- max Time to Recover from Reverse voltage (Trr) 200 ns (L297)
For the BYW98/200 the valu

I've been using it for a couple of years, nothing religious just the last spool I bought was lead free and I've still not got through it.
My random observations/thoughts are:
Lead free solder doesn't correspond to one alloy. A quick look at wikipedia gives 15 common alloys, compared to the two common, and very similar, lead alloys. I'm using Sn/Cu0.7 which was cheep but has the highest meltin

The data-sheet (http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/AD594_595.pdf) for the AD595 also covers the AD594. Between then they can handle E,J,K and T thermocouples.
Using a Type J thermocouple just involves using an AD594 instead.
Using an Type E thermocouple looks like the hardest to me, as it involves calibration, but step by step instructions are given in the data-sheet.

Is the AS5040 much more expensive?
It seems like a nicer choice, as it has a higher resolution than the steppers being used, 1024 'steps' per rev, and a wide range of output formats to play with.

Hi,
I've also been scouting for parts in the UK. I made a copy of the spreadsheet and made some additions, which are marked in yellow.
It contains a couple of extra columns in the 'unique parts' sheet; one for details of alternatives and one for dimensions. They could probably be merged into the description.
I've added Farnell, Maplin, CPC and Rapid as suppliers. Most of the items have part
