I wouldn't worry about the measurement just yet. There are speed limits and other default configurations (around the lines where you handle steps/mm) in Configuration.h in Marlin. In Pronterface you should be able to set move speeds above the XYZ controls. Set the Z down by half until something gets going. When you say all motors run manually from pronterface, is it that you checked the motor byby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Hi j, What kind of noise does the printer make on layer change? It could be that the firmware is trying to drive the steppers too fast and the stepper is missing steps. I was having this trouble on my new printer. It seemed like a problem I could have solved by cranking the driver current up, but it was just too fast (direct driving 5mm threaded rods, which it appears yours may be doing as wellby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Their blog posts are all very thoughtful and thorough. If that ethic applies even partly to their filament quality I think you'll be good to go. No personal experience though.by Thav - General
I would be concerned about that much grooving in the filament as it goes through the hobbed bolt/gear driver. Since on a line of extrusion the extruder will run at one speed (meaning the filament feed speed calculater by the slicer), mashing the plastic around will then mean there's a periodic change in volume of filament over the length of the filament. I imagine then you will have a periodic chby Thav - General
If you have printed bed springs they may have deformed so that the bed sits a little lower. Maybe you changed bed temp, or the thermistor's thermal conductive path to the bed changed so the delta between the thermistor reading and the surface temp is different. This might cause the expansion of the bed to be different and slightly farther away from your nozzle than before. I've honestly never diby Thav - Printing
Be careful about measurements with the IR thermometer, the reflectivity of different materials will throw your measurement. You may want to put down a matte tape on the glass to make sure the reading from the thermometer is more accurate.by Thav - Printing
Been running an Mk IV-B, 0.35mm nozzle with 3mm ABS for about two months. It's working great, and actually appears to have been pretty forgiving of my sloppy mounting into the extruder.by Thav - For Sale
My impression from other posts on the forums and discussion in IRC is do not buy any Gen6 electronics because they are severely lacking (HBP and fan control to name two), and do not buy from mendel-parts because of their shipping delays and poor customer support.by Thav - General
I've also had the thought that if the X and Y axis steps may make a difference, because if the X or Y doesn't move far enough it would result in overlap of the plastic, even if the amount SFACT expects is extruded.by Thav - Printing
Hey Zarquon, I don't have much advice, but just wanted to chime in to say I have the same problem. I have gone through calibration a few times (finding errors I made last time each time I do it), and seem to have a pretty good E steps and packing density now. In the Infill plugin (I think) there is a parameter for extra spacing between infill lines. It's sort of described in coasterman's calibratby Thav - Printing
If the other GUI features of pronterface are unnecessary, can't you send the Gcode over with pronsole?by Thav - General
I'm in North Raleigh, and finally printing with a Sells Mendel. Once I get a week or two more experience calibrating and printing, I'd be happy to entertain some onlooking. Will probably post progress to Google+by Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Thanks for the advice, it game me the courage I needed to slam on them a little more. Instead of trying to grip the gear with the vice, I got some support under the gear and punched down the shaft. Worked like a charm. Updated my build log with pictures.by Thav - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
I'm still a ways away from being able to print, but if I get there I'd be willing to help out. For now, don't hold your breath for me :]by Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
I haven't used any local source for hardware, but I know about Wilders 2406 Alwin Ct Raleigh 27604 833-2761 You could probably come in with the BOM and have them order something for you. A bit of a drive, it's sort of East Raleigh, near the junction of 440 and Capital Blvd. There are a few Fastenal locations as well I've been recommended ADR Hydrocut for thick sheet, will be calling this wby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Hey everyone, I bought a set of four NEMA 17 motors off eBay and they each came with a gear on the shaft (which is not the right pitch at all). I need to get them off to continue construction, but don't know how! They don't have set screws, so I'm not really sure how else they might be attached. I have tried gripping the gear in a vice and using a punch on what looks to be the shaft coming throuby Thav - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
Not really happy with the quality of the M4 washers that I got in this kit. The inner diameter is just too small, so half of them I really have to force down the length of the M4 screw thread. They catch often and require a bit of force.by Thav - For Sale
No word from Dwayne here either.by Thav - For Sale
At this point I have almost all the parts I need, I just have to start building. I'm going to post a build log when I do get to it, and then I'd be happy to show it off once I have it running. -Tonyby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Milled PCBs is certainly one of the avenues they've been researching. Full copper PCBs are easy and cheap enough to get, there should be no need to apply metal to the board in a milling process.by Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
I actually purchased this one and it arrived recently, thread should be closed. Sorry!by Thav - For Sale
Ah, Will I replied to you in that other thread. Guess that teaches me to post before reading. Glad to see there's some activity going on in the area.by Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Hey Will, If you ever do come back, it looks like the Huxley kit by techzone is a pretty good all in one kind of price right now. I'm in Raleigh and wouldn't mind talking to people and showing off my Mendel once I build it up. -Tonyby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
I did not end up receiving all the parts of my kit. The jigs and mudguard washers were missing. I have e-mailed Dwayne to try to clear it up. -Tonyby Thav - For Sale
Just got mine today, hadn't gotten any e-mail response, but it's here! I will assumed it's full. I will report back if it's not the complete order. Thanks Dwayne!by Thav - For Sale
I purchased one of these kits off of Dwayne's ebay store just over two weeks ago now and still haven't heard anything back from him from the original purchase or a follow up e-mail. I'll give another week before I take it up with paypal's buyer protection. I'll write in with updates as they come.by Thav - For Sale
That list looks suspiciously familiar... Berrybros kit , but $70 off their price? Pretty intense. Has anyone talked to Shawn, or purchased yet? Could you placemat some of the kits you have, so we can start to confirm your legitimacy? Can never be too careful I think!by Thav - For Sale
Hey, just an idea from my experience in Durham. I volunteer at the Durham bike coop, and they sub let their space during weekdays/some nights where they had no programming to other organizations. It helps them immensely to pay the rent, and gives you a good place to work (assuming you will be low footprint). There may also be some synergy there with a bike coop, sometimes plastic parts just up anby Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
Looks like some Mini-Mendel parts went for $130 on ebay, so I guess you got the pricing about right there ;] Will be meeting with Steve this weekend to look at his Mendel parts. If that works out I will certainly be dropping this mini-mendel business for a while.by Thav - North Carolina RepRap User Group
