Hey I made hackaday!!! Going to use my new cnc to cut out the parts for my Mendel90 printer that I put off for way to long now. Have most of the parts, just need to cnc out the mdf platform. Will put up build pictures soon. All nsk and thk linear rails instead of round rails. Stuff that I found on eBay cheaper than buying new round rails. I use three gecko320 on my cnc mill and three Uhu servo drivers on my small gantry router. Both drivers are step/direction input so it should be no problem interfacing either one to a ramps board. We designed our own pcb board for the Uhu driver. Stepper motor test Just for kicks I hooked up a spare stepper motor to a gecko202 driver just to see how fast I can spin the motor. I only used a 20volt power supply since I didn't want to pull the bigger power supply hooked up to my cnc in the basement. The maximum pulse rate from the tek frequency generator is about 91Khz before the stepper stops spinning. That calculates to be about 2700rpm.by Jim Fong - General
Bobc, I agree that steppers do loose most of their torque at higher speeds but choosing the right drivers, steppers, linear components makes all the difference. I use a cnc router that rapids at 200ipm with 5tpi ballscrews. The stepper spins at 1000rpm or more. To say that steppers are not designed to run at that speed isn't always true. The steppers motors are nema23 around 300in/oz. I beby Jim Fong - General
I have a few gecko 201 stepper drivers and have spun decent square body nema23 steppers over 2500rpm. There is hardly any torque at that speed. The gecko are 10 microstep drivers. That's over 83,000 steps per second. Power supply was set at 48volts. You will be able to spin the stepper faster by using a 80volt power supply which is the max rated voltage of the geckodrive. Nice CNC you have there Berry! I have a couple of small cnc machines that is great for making small parts. Currently putting together a larger 60"x36" router using thk rails and ballscrews I bought off eBay. First priority is to finish my 3d printer.... Looks like you used some kind of v-bearing for the z-axis but can't tell what kind of linear rail system you used for the x & y axis. Kby Jim Fong - General

Ok thanks just wasn't sure how fast the filament needs to feed even when printing at high speeds. The cnc is a servo driven router, thk linear rails running MACH3. It has decent acceleration but not as fast as some of the 3d printers I see on YouTube. I could increase the acceleration if i needed to. I think it already runs scary fast as is!!!
