Made some progress. I've got a Panucatt re-arm smoothie board and did some testing on it while waiting for my new board with TMC 2660 drivers to come in. Got the latest config file from Smoothieware.org and while going thu the config.txt settings I noticed a setting to enable the uart as a second serial connection. enabled that and set the baud to match on both. The TFT connects thru the Aux1 heby Geartech - Reprappers
Not sure this is possible with a board other than the MKS Sbase smoothieboard but thought I'd check. Tried a few different setups and connection points but have not had any luck getting it to communicate with the board. Didn't have any issue making it work with my mega2560 ramps 1.4 board. From what it looks like is the MKS Sbase board uses the p0.2 and p0.3 pins but those are supposed to be forby Geartech - Reprappers
I am trying to get a feel for any projects people have in my area. At the moment I have a 300x200mm 50w CO2 laser that I built and I'm trying fund a bigger machine in the area of 900x600mm 80-100w for bigger projects. Got my Drive built, had to drill and tap the aluminum frame for the drive to fit the bowden/pnumatic fitting. the one it had was just the regular m6 for the hotend tube. Now to design or print a bracket for the E3D v6 head and re-calibrate everthing.by Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
That looks just like my Hesine 505, I had a few issues getting my USB to connect. First thing I did was copy the drivers to the windows folder( can't remember right off top of my head where exact that is) but It made windows install those drives instead of its own, second set your port speed to 115200 ( IIRC) I think I even had to go into the windows driver settings for that com port and set tby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Thanks for the info, I wasnt quite sure how it work but that explination makes sense. I got a version of Cura to work for my printer and use Repetire to do the inital setup of the printer before print. Thanks for the great work on Repetire. It's my goto when all else fails me.by Geartech - Repetier
The dummy e3d head is a good idea, that at least lets me get the x axis carriage built and ready. the rest is pretty simple.by Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
The bowden drives I've seen so far are just MK8 drive with the hot end off of it and the fittings for the bowden cable added to where the hotend screwed in to the drive frame. then move it to a bracket on the frame of the printer. I'll have to change my x carriage extruder mount to fit the new E3D v6 head and connect the other end of the bowden to it. I may be worng on my assumptions about theby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Finally found the previous versions of Cura on Utilimakers site. That was a chore in itself. The feature I need in Repetire-Host is the plugins feature for Cura. This one in particular, Zlift plugin for couple parts with long overhangs. What build of Cura is in Repetire-Host now and wonder if new versions could be ported into it. I really like using Repetire-host, The nice thing is it worked oby Geartech - Repetier
Printer is a Hesine 505, pretty much like every Prusa i3 clone out there, Melzi v2.0 board ( real 2.0 with 4982 drivers) firmware is Repetire 0.91( not sure that is correct, I don't have a complete understanding of the different firmware and hardware out there yet but I'm working on it) ,acrylic frame that I've stiffened and mounted to a 3/4 birch ply platform to keep it level and stable. I think I have all the parts to do the conversion, I've got and extra direct drive motor and drive with the fittings for the bowden cable have a E3D head and bowden cable along with the fittings to connect both ends of the bowden cable. the only part I will have to make at this point is the mount for the extruder head to the x axis transit bearings and timing belt. Is there anything else I needby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Thought I'd try the New Cura eng with no luck, I only really need it for the plug-in option as there are a few parts that need the Zlift plugin. Can't for the life of me get the plug-ins to work in the new Cura eng. I can't seem to get the printer set up correctly in standalone Cura. It overextrudes ( alot) won't home the axis or turn on the heaters. I'm probably missing somthing that has to beby Geartech - Repetier
I just put a new MK8 extruder and stepper on my Prusa i3, the extruder it replaced was also a MK8 but didn't have the cooling fan on the extruder drive. It had the one for the print cooling fan but not the other. My question is when should that fan be running, 12v from the P/S or the fan drive from the Melzi board that drives the print cooling fan. Forgive me if this is the worng area to post thby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Thanks for the link on setting the temp for best quality. My biggest issue and it's not even really that big is the base or bottom layer not being smooth or the extruded strands seem to not be fused to the strand next to them. The rest of the structure is solid, no de-lamination or weak spots, very little excess/strings in the print. I'll work on getting beter pics up, I had to do those at workby Geartech - Printing
I'm new to all of this so bear with me if this is basic stuff. I've gotten my printer to state where I get what appear to be consistant and repetable results. I moved from the fliament they sent with the print to Inland 1.75 PLA Print temps and speeds are. ( for this print attached ) Nozzle .35mm layer height .2mm wall thickness 1.2mm Glass bead with stick glue. bed temp 50c extruder temby Geartech - Printing
Got it working again but I had to drop the threaded tube down a few more turns so it wasnt so close to the drive wheel. The hole for the tube is drilled to far foward and when its close to the wheel it causes it to bind as it needs that space inbetween the tube and wheel to flex . I ordered a different extruder frame asym to see if is any difference and also will allow me to play with makingby Geartech - General
Moved the print head feed tube further up till it almost touched the extruder drive. in that position I lost feed. It appear to bind somewhere. I think the tube is misaligned in the frame. dropped it down 2 turns and that seems to fix it.by Geartech - General
Thanks Olaf, thats the kind of info I need. I have gotten much better prints after doing a little more setup of the bed and temps. Layer height was .2mm temp was 195 c dont remember the speed. I went back thru and measured the filament and corrected that in Cura, also checked the feed rate and had to add a few steps. My second print came out like this. that was .1mm layer temp 205c speed 45mmby Geartech - General
I've been using a product called sailkote It's a dry ptfe , low to no odor and sticks to anything you spray it on We use it to lube the conical and threads on Porsche 918 Spyder wheels Works very well under hi pressuresby Geartech - Reprappers
Got my Hesine 505/Prusa i3 done the other night, ran my first pint with pretty good results. There are some problems with material deposition in places that I need to figure out But so far its worked pretty well for my first attempt at this. A lot of the credit goes to the reading and setup ideas I got from here.by Geartech - General
Did my first print tonight. It's not perfect but It's much better than I expected. I might need some help with the settings but I have some reading and video to watch and that my help me Alos have to tweak the frame and bed a tiny bit. Attached some pics of my first attemptby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
I've been working with my new printer, and by the way I'm new to all this and still learning. When I power up the printer I see on the display screen Omni 1.04 Not sure if this is the firmware or what is it. It is supposed to be running Repetire but at the moment I don't know the firmware level I'd like to be able to change it but this Omni 1.04 has me wondering? any ideas?by Geartech - Sanguino(lolu)
Not yet, as usual there is nothing in the build instructions about that. That was my next setp but I wanted to find out what normal is for the temp of the drivers. I imagine there is a link somewhere on here for the proceedure to set them, I've seen a few posts about it but haven't run across the exact procedure yet.by Geartech - Controllers
I think I found what I was looking for, Just had to do some more reading on the wiki side. If anyone has the Config.h file for Hesine 505 that would be all I really need I think.by Geartech - Sanguino(lolu)
Wondering if anyone has the arduino build files for this or this controller. (Melzi v2.0) I'd like to be able to try some different print heads in the future but without those it will be a little hard to do?by Geartech - Sanguino(lolu)
Just finished my Hesine 505, It's a Prusa i3 clone with the melzi v2.0 board. I was running the printer after I finished it and got all the software working and finally connected to the controller board. It probably ran a total of 3 to 4 minutes and I stopped it to check everything. Noticed the stepper drivers on the Melzi board are pretty hot. You can touch them but not for long. Got the frame done last nite along with the x and y motors mounted. I don't see anything in the my iinstructions about squaring and making sure the bed mount is square to the rest of the frame. I can imagine that this is pretty critical, are there any links out there to this setup of the frame?by Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Thanks for the sources, looks like I've got enough reading and building to keep me busy for a few days at least. I'll keep you posted on my progress.by Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
Just getting into 3d printing and I'm looking for good information sources to help me get started. This fourm seems to have pretty much most all the info I could need, if anyone has anymore places I could go to read and get more info on the mechanics and the controller for my printer that would be appriciated. By the way it's a Hesine 505 Prusa i3 clone with a Melzi controller. I have a littleby Geartech - Prusa i3 and variants
