Hey! Lovin' this! I'm going to build one, but I cannot find Hercules HD Twist 5.0 MP. Is there anything else that can be used in its place or different designed piece for any other model cam?by kingoddball - 3D Scanners, Book Scanners, and Optics
Hi! I have recently got an ASUS Xtion. I'm trying to use it with a Surface pro and wondering if anyone has found any free software that works with INTEL graphics HD4000? I the only software I found was Skanect but this limits the export to 5000 faces and the software is nearly $200. I kind of thought there would be free and open alternatives out there. I found one SCENECT I think but that was aby kingoddball - 3D Scanners, Book Scanners, and Optics
Sorry one more... Is there a full kit using 8mm smooth rods? Found the 8mil plates But the problem I had earlier - The X-End Front does not have the GT2 teeth in the file.. Is there a piece with J-Head and GT2 teeth? Just thinking if the 6mm piece is complete the 8mm might be somewhere. If there is not one, I'll try mash one upby kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Hi! I'm currently printing the newest release: I see this in the description: There's now an option for hot-end. end_x_jhead OR end_x_huxley for hot-end How do I attach a JHead? Am I missing a part or have I over looked something? The x-end which printed is flat - looks like the older huxley type... Thanks!by kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Hey! I've been doing some work building/software and printing some parts for various project (built many 3D printers) I have done work for a guy on here; I have recently finished a nice house/dwelling for an architect in Sydney - 1/150 scale. Came out brilliantly - Can't upload image yet (house is in design and contract phase). PM me what you want and I'll help My prices are very good - Geby kingoddball - Job Shop: I make stuff!
Update: (image attached) Racks racks and racks! Edit: I will post a current BOM sometime soon. I was very shocked how little I've used to build this. Currently about a dozen nuts and bolts and 1 threaded rod (cut). That's it. Will be less if Move back to fishing line. I'm using the racks for two uses - movement and as a brace for the printed rods. Keeps them rigid.by kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Artistic! Love it! I have a week off work (tomorrow) and I hope to get all axis moving via computer and possibly try get a single line printed (happy with a single line, single layer). Then I'll try print a basic hollow cube, just need to find some PLA, only have ABS (might just use this without a heatbed for a test). Edit: I'm thinking of moving from the fishing line to the Rack and Pinion becby kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Updates! All axis's move on printed rods and bearings. Mostly all setup, need to wire it up and add the fishing line (still waiting for end stops). Otherwise its nearly complete. Very ugly but I won't clean the cables until its all wired up... Edit: The odd yellow/brown colour on the rods/bearings is PTFE based grease, makes it extremely smooth.by kingoddball - Smart_Rap
I originally printed in 0.2mm layers; bearing on rod was smooth - Noisy (layer rub) but very smooth! BUT! Linear is a good idea!! I did not think of that - I could knock up some square bearings (slightly larger dia) and try insert them into the slots within your files. I'm not very good with CAD (I'm using Tinkercad); probably good to learn more of a real editor but I like the online one so I caby kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Correct. I used acetone to melt the pieces together and it held well, but was just not strong enough. I used tinkercad to throw together another rod with a protruding piece/hole on other. Seems ok, will try print it out later tonight maybe. Your image looks brilliant - nice locking piece.by kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Hi! I started building up a SmartRap a few weeks back and decided to used printed LM8UU which I was pretty happy with - So I wanted to try one better and print the rods. I got everything printed in ABS - But have a small print size limit (120mm/12cm) so I had to 'glue' the prints together with acetone. These broke too easily, has anyone got any ideas for a printable rod (in pieces) where it wilby kingoddball - Smart_Rap
Thank you. Does seem right. At the lower levels it seems consistent and then fails the higher it goes - Could be too tight or jamming? I am unsure if my extruder setting is correct: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {80,80,4000,760*1.1} My old i2 has the same extruder and the default steps was "699", could the one above be wrong? Also, how do you know if you have good idler tension? That'sby kingoddball - General
Hello, I have finally got my i3 to start print (4 to 6 months of trouble and rebuilds)... Unfortunately the prints are terrible... Its an i3 with Wades Herringbone.. The extruder seemed to be extruding OK. I do think at the end the filament was not flowing right (jam maybe), but the results are fairly similar in the lower layers... Please help! Thank you! hi, Yes! I added the fan externder physically, but how do I ensure there is power running to it? Yes - Sorry - Power is definitely in, but nothing happens with a fan plugged in. I thought it was just a plug and play. I was using board 34 because I have dual extruders. I am going to remove one and make this into a Single for a while.by kingoddball - General
Hello! Nearly have my i3 working!! It has extruded... Slightly. But... When I connect (any) fan to the ramps board they do not spin. I have used the fan pin, I also have # When that is plugged in, it should give me two connections for fans, I plug into any/either and none work. Tried 3 different fans (40mm > 80mm). Is there something I'm missing? I made a firmware based on current marlinby kingoddball - General

Hi! I thought I would pop this into the general page to gain more traffic Sneaky sneaky. Does anyone here use an i3 printer with a (RepRapDiscount) full graphical display? I am unable to get any of my i3 firmwares to work with this LCD. I have tried to mimic my old i2 firmware (where the LCD works) and nothing - It compiles but fails to work. The LCD works fine, I have compiled the firmwaby kingoddball - General
After playing around with it... Seems like a power issue. Turn 0.1m works. Turn 1m it squeels for about 5 seconds then turns. If I turn two or three clicks (LCD panel) it just screams until it moves once then screams.. Rods are fine, motors or not stiff or hard to move.. I was fiddling with an option in the controller settings to raise VMax or something which slightly fixes it.. Will wiring inby kingoddball - General
Hi All, Motors - Both work when separate. They turn easily by hand (will double check) Both motors are turning in the same direction. Parallel or series? What is this and how can I tell? Thank you all! Edit: More Info: I remember - When I try to turn the motors (Printerface or LCD controller), after a few seconds of moving (i.e: 10mm moves) the pololu heat sink is HOT!! Cant keep finger oby kingoddball - General
Hello! I am building my first non kit printer. All is moving except the Z axis. Playing around with it tonight; 1: move the Z and it just screams and grinds - will not move. 2: raised (and lowered) the pololu pot voltages. 3: replaced with a brand new pololu (current ones have never been used) 4: unplug one motor and it works flawlessly! Im in for this also!by kingoddball - Australia, Sydney RUG
Seemed to be working now. Firmware tweaks and reconnected everything. Also lowered pwm to 200. Thanksby kingoddball - Reprappers
Hi, Thanks for that, checked that and the extruder and terminator match ext0 and th0. I'm thinking my thermistor could be wrong in the firmware... Not exactly sure what it should be set at; Thermistor is: 100k thermistor EPCOS B57560G104F NTCwhat is this number in the firmware? My J-Head is: Only difference is I'm using a ceramic heater cart.by kingoddball - Reprappers
I had this same issue, could never fix it. But! Had this problem using a VERY similar colour PLA! Could be the same (bought from eBay Australia). To fix the second layer I had to rub each layer down my hand (got hot quick!), but after third layer it was ok... Weird.by kingoddball - Reprappers
Hi! I have started to build a new printer; i3 based on a twelvepro wooden frame and EINSTEIN Variant. Taurino Board, Ramps 1.4 and reprapdiscount graphical LCD. Got it together, put together a firmware. Everything moves, looks about right. Started the heaters.... Got hot.. LCD panel - I went to preheat PLA. Temp rises - 100 > 150 > 180 > 200 > 250 > 300[/b]... Crap! Power off.by kingoddball - Reprappers
