On sketchup install the "Solid Inspector" tool. (Google is your friend) It's an official tool, that checks that things are 3D printable. Run it before you export to STL, and it'll tell you if what you have is "manifold"/solidby DaveS - General
I think you should handle a printed mobile case / keychain in your hand before considering printing for profit. (if indeed that is what you are considering) It is still true that these printers are not commercial products, and still require a lot of user intervention, and people are sometimes disappointed that the results are not as good as injection moulded cases.by DaveS - General
WHOOSH !! That's the sound of 99% of that flying straight over my head. I think I was confused when I posted my original post, I'd been reading a different thread, and my mind misplaced STM32 for LPC17nn for some reason. but here is something you will find VERY interesting ! ARM / ST are about to support the STM32 chips on the mbed platform. Having used the LPC on that platform, I can heby DaveS - Developers
Can i ask what size nozzle please ?by DaveS - Reprappers
Hi, I'm looking at running on an mbed LPC1768 (also an Arm Chip) have you seen the Sprinter board? I believe that's written to run on ARM. I'm waiting for steppers and controllers before I fire up some firmware. Is the sprinter and Laoslaser firmware of any use to you ?by DaveS - Developers
There are so many bad kits out there at the minute, I'd steer clear of anything without personal recommendation. Where are you exactly ? You say you have a shipping problem, *most* of a 3D printer can usually be sourced locally. The instructions that are out there are pretty complete these days.by DaveS - Reprappers
I get mine as tight as I can. I read somewhere you should be able to pluck them like a guitar string, every now and then they appear to stretch slightly or my mounts move ?? (who knows ?) but I loosen the mounts and retighten them till I can pluck them again.by DaveS - Reprappers
This part of the wiki will tell you everything, from how stepper motors work, to how repraps work. I'd read all that first.by DaveS - Reprappers
I'm not near my printer/ PC right now, but if I remember correctly there's a setting in advanced(??) where you can set the extrusion width or flow rate for support. Mine is set to 75%, and my support comes out pretty flaky, but does it's job. If you've not found it, I'll post what I'm talking about when I'm near my PC!by DaveS - General
I have a friend with a printer that can do 12" x 12" He kept boasting he could print a basketball. Till he tried that is ;-) He said it took about 2 days to print it ! Put it this way, I've never actually seen it.by DaveS - General
This sounds daft, but try something else than toilet paper, they put stuff in toiler paper to keep it soft! I kid you not, try kitchen roll. I used to have all sorts of problems till I switched to kitchen roll. PLA; Here's some points to try before you revert to hairspray. I use some very cheap nail polish remover I got from the chemist, I rub that over about every 5 prints and wipe off withby DaveS - General
I'm not sure I trust the bit that says the max printing speed is 1200mm/s Really you need a heated bed for PLA too. To be honest there are hundreds of new printers popping up, they're all the same tech really, they all boil down to a hotend and a way to move it in 3 dimensions using the same controller software. Heated bed and Jhead or E3D is what's missing. I bought a Huxley, am printing aby DaveS - Reprappers
What an idea !! It takes so long to get used to the idea of a 3D printer doesn't it ! I ordered one today, I also had a read around the net, I wonder if I'll get time to hack one too. I have some mbeds available (LPC1768), I could USBHost my printer and write to the fan on the fly. too many interesting projects, too little time!by DaveS - Developers
Nice find ! Did you buy any ? Can I ask which way the message is orientated with regards to which way they are blowing ? I.E. if you hold them displaying the message towards you, are they blowing towards you ? I so want to be able to mount one on the front of my reprap ! blowing onto the heatbed, (away from me) but be readable to me.by DaveS - Developers
This paste extruder might help also. Has even printed icing sugar!by DaveS - General
just check this one thing for me ! take it completely apart... and where the bearing is, that the hobbed bolt should be pushed against, check that the part of the bearing that faces the hobbed bolt isn't covered with a bit of plastic, or that there is no plastic around that bit of it of it. I mean the side that the hobbed bolt pushes on to. am I making any sense ? I don't mean the bearing, beby DaveS - Reprappers
QuoteFarmerprints Even after repair and ziping the file, its too big to fit into reprap.org PM sent, in case you can email it. Would be awesome if it's printable !by DaveS - Reprappers
Well.. I have had fun! Nothing printable though. Cura brings it in and shows it as a complete mesh on the screen, but after slicing, it has large lumps missing. You sort of know don't you... you know if there is not a picture of a thing printed on thingiverse, it doesn't print. Anything in plain blue, I don't usually go near. So I hunted around for any other Buick 1950 models, found a few on tby DaveS - Reprappers
Many thanks for the steer... I am now downloading Cura as I type !by DaveS - Reprappers
It is... but then do the "E steps fine tuning" on this page that's how to *really* get it perfect.by DaveS - Reprappers
My Nephew has found a model on thingiverse and asked me if I could print it for him. I usually use slic3r, but it's just not happy with the model. I could try to use skeinforge, but I'd have to spend all night installing it. The model may not be manifold anyway, could someone please, PLEASE, Pretty Please, please... slice it for me ! I need it resized to 130mm long and sliced. I only ask incaby DaveS - Reprappers
*just warped* I don't think people should be selling warped parts. A bit grainy on vertical walls maybe, but charging actual money for warped parts isn't really on, IMHO.by DaveS - Reprappers
I hope you've not left feedback yet then. I'm afraid they are horrendous. Which country are you in ? Odd question I know, but I am about to start printing a Mendel I2 on my Huxley. (a Huxley is a mini mendel) See if you can get your money back on those parts .... and ... If you have any spare vitamins for a Mendel, I could trade you some printed parts for vitamins, as I'm about to start sourcby DaveS - Reprappers
Erm, those blue parts, they are the ones you bought, or ones you have printed yourself ? I don't quite understand. If they are ones you've bought, I'm afraid it's not good news.by DaveS - Reprappers
Talk to reprappro, (presuming you have a reprappro Huxley) There's a bed levelling track round the edge of the PCB, the screws complete the circuit or something, so you can tell when your hotend hits the bed, or something ?!? Never used it, or looked at how it should work, but have heard of it ! Dave.by DaveS - Huxley
How big are the models you need printed ? To be honest any dialled in 3D printer is excellent, doesn't have to be a makerbot, just has to be dialled in. I ask as I am in London, but only have a 145x145x80 print bed at the minute. Dave.by DaveS - General
In a nutshell... I use a Melzi board on the printer to control the printer. This is running some firmware called "Marlin" I use pronterface to speak from the PC to the printer. I use sketchup or openscad to design things, or I download them from www.thingiverse I use slic3r for slicing. 1. Make or download a design 2. Slice this into a G Code file on your computer 3. Move this file onto anby DaveS - General
I'm not at a PC right now (posting from my phone) But you want to switch slicer to "advanced" Then you can either have fast but not as good prints, or slow but amazingly fantastic prints. Switch slic3r to advanced, find RichRap's blog about how to set up slic3r (google richrap) and read the WHOLE thing ;-) The only thing that comes to mind is your movement looks slow. I have mine at about 20by DaveS - Reprappers
We can't even agree in England if Bath is pronounced as Barth or Bath (as in math) ! Depends which bit of the country you come from. I like this poem ;-) I take it you already know Of tough and bough and cough and dough? Others may stumble, but not you On hiccough, thorough, slough, and through. Well don't! And now you wish, perhaps, To learn of less familiar traps. Beware of heard, aby DaveS - General
