Hi John, thanks for starting the page! I added a few additional links. The little Rapidfire kiln looks interesting. To be honest, I'm not sure an open source alternative would cost much less than the list price of $565 for the Rapidfire. If you have an idea of the size and available power you are thinking of, you could try using some of the python script heat transfer models on the Repkiln githuby MattMoses - General
Hi! I've been working on an open source electric kiln: RepKiln Hackaday Project Page I plan to put the information on the RepRap wiki after I've finished it. Not that there can only be one kiln project on the wiki, of course... So, John Cummings, I say feel free to add a kiln project to the wiki!! As far as how to start, I started my project by making a simple heat transfer model to get an ideby MattMoses - General
I logged in to the server and made a few edits to LocalSettings.php. I'm not sure if the changes will take effect immediately or if something needs to be restarted. Could someone please try and edit the wiki to see if these changes had any effect?by MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Does anyone know how to change this on the wiki? Is it just a setting I could change on the wiki itself, or would I need to log in to the server and change something there?by MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy
I logged in to the wiki and made a test edit to the Gcode page and it worked OK. I did not see a captcha though... perhaps this is because I have admin account for the wiki(?) Are you saying that you cannot edit the wiki even when logged in? I would like to help fix this, but unfortunately I don't know how. Quotemartinprice2004 many Reprap designs are released under the GNU General Public license Not to be contrarian, but please everyone remember that the GPL usually has no meaning (legal or otherwise) when applied to a "design". There are many aspects of an inventive design that cannot be protected by the GPL and can only be protected by patent. Sourceby MattMoses - Reprappers
The Policy page on the wiki says QuoteWiki Policy Page Members of the RepRap community do not unanimously agree on the definition of Open Source Hardware. For this reason, a compromise "lowest common denominator" definition was put in place that defines open source as simply "comes with files sufficient to make a copy". However, some people really do not like this definition. I do not think itby MattMoses - Reprappers
25. Has anyone thought about 3D printing metal? Yes. There are many established technologies for 3D printing metal parts, but most of these are beyond the reach of individual experimenters. There are many groups working on accessible low-cost technologies for 3D printing metal. Hi D.Goncz, If I remember correctly, Feynman actually got some of his ideas from Waldo, not the other way around. Heinlein published Waldo in 1942, and Feynman gave his lecture in 1959. Apparently Feynman learned of Waldo from his friend/student Albert Hibbs, and the story just gets weirder and weirder the deeper you go down (see Feynman, Waldo and the Wickedest Man in the World). I'm glad you are happy with the work, Arthur. However, now that the policy stuff is codified, I took a moment to go back and look at the AZMSZ_Mini page. I don't really understand how this page is in violation of the policy. Can someone please clarify? Thanks for your input guys. QuoteTraumflug I added two points to the deletion policy Looks good to me! I also added some text suggested by Adrian (via email) regarding suitability for children, and a few lines discouraging weapons.by MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Hi Everyone. I created a new Policy page for the RepRap wiki. It is here: Policy Please take a look. Tell me what you think. Feel free to edit this page as much as you like. Let's see if we can get some input from multiple users. I hope we can get a somewhat stable consensus for the policy page, and then start to apply it.by MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy

Quotearthurwolf Please bother to look them up, they are in the forum, and not difficult to find. I guess you know something I don't, Arthur! Can you please share these rules and where to find them?!?!?by MattMoses - Administration, Announcements, Policy

This is cool. Can you provide any more information on the conductive PLA version? How well does it work compared to the conductive paint version? What kind of bearing does this use? (I assume the bearings are commercial and/or they contain metal.) GitHub is a decent option. It has a built-in 3D STL viewer, online storage, version control, wiki pages, and lots of other stuff. There are a lot of well known RepRap-related hardware projects maintained on GitHub (Mendel90 for example). A while ago I posted a simple quick-start guide for using GitHub with a hardware project.by MattMoses - General
Not sure if this helps, but GitHub has had STL support for years. The format is so simple and widely used that it is hard to imagine 3D Systems trying to (or being able to) restrict its usage.by MattMoses - General
