I've just built the machine and completed testing. After hitting the XYZ stops the manual instructs to enter G1 X0 Y0 Z100 F30000 to center the axes. This is working fine. But does this need to be done each time the printer is connected afresh? I ask because if I don't do this after disconnecting and connecting again the end stops sometimes hit if I jog the axes using the Pronterface buttons. Iby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90

Thank you for the new android file. I will look for the other new files and how to use them. Being new to this Reprap world I am still a bit uncertain how to implement the various software and how they all work together but will get it in time; I'm just impatient and want to understand everything right away LOL. On my SD card I have android.gcode (last modified 2013.10) and android_export.gcode (last modified 2013). if I load android.gcode it goes to the center of the simulated bed so that issue is solved. But my search turned up my error. The SD card had two android gcode files with last modified dates later than when I received the printer so they could not be as Chris sent them. Hmmm? To start fresh I deleted all program files and printrunconf.ini from my computer. 1. I copied only the Windows directory from the SD card to computer. 2. Ran Pronterface from the Windows directory and opened android_export_gcode from the SD card. The result: 3. Thank you Neil for this further antidote to ignorance . We are wiring the Melzi and hope to put power to this baby soon!by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
I suppose there is no ground for the limit switches but page 64 of the manual shows Ribbon 1 (red) as signal and Ribbon 2 as ground. This makes me wonder if there is some way to check for ground on the other switches? I don't think so but I don't know for sure so am asking just in case ... paranoia induced by ignorance. Before I copy printrunconf.ini from Nophead's Github to "C:\Users\Garry" the little android creature is placed perfectly centered in the Pronterface simulated bed when I do 'File>Open>android_export.gcode'. But as soon as I copy printrunconf.ini to "C:\Users\Garry" and do 'File>Open>android_export.gcode' the little android fellow gets placed to the extreme top right of the Pronterfaceby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
So I can expect Windows to prompt me for a driver location when I connect the USB. That's easy but I wasn't sure. Thanks!by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
I am hoping to be able to wire up the Melzi tomorrow and try communicating with the printer but am unclear about the USB FTDI driver. From the manual: "On Windows, the PC will need a USB FTDI driver for the serial port to appear. This can be found in the Arduino drivers folder." There are many dll's in the drivers folder and ftdibus.sys. Which one do I need? Where do I put it? I'm not sure whatby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
Hi, I am in Edmonton. I am almost finished building my Mendel90. I'd like to meet other 3D'ers here or in the area. Send me a PM if you'd like. Best regards ..by Garry Bartsch - Canada, Edmonton RepRap User Group
Sweet! Thank you Chris. Two computers, two monitors and other devices make this room warm always. I think this multi-meter is not the best. It was cheap on ebay ... LOL. Onward! Getting near the end of the build.by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
Aha! Thank you Chris. The shorted probes were the trick. The meter read 1.6Ω when the probes were shorted. Then 2.8Ω for the heater wires for an actual value of 1.2Ω for the heated bed. Yippee! Today with a room temperature of 25.5C the heated bed thermistor read 937,000Ω. The extruder heater was 6.8Ω at the extruder motor PCB for an adjusted 5.2Ω. I hope the last two are OK.by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
I would love to see a picture of your machine with red parts. It would look awesome. I'd like colored parts for mine but would not be eager to rebuild it just to have color LOL ..by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
It's the most clueless guy on this forum with another question. Since I've never used a multi-meter and knew nothing about electricity before starting this project I hope I'm doing my measurement properly. Red goes to Ω and black to COM on the machine. I set the dial to 200Ω. I measure the ends of the large red and black wires to the heated pad by pressing them against a piece of glass with the pby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90

Very welcome news Sanjay - thank you. I am so glad my filament collection can be used. I was thinking the bearing axel was the problem. You had the solution. Thank you!by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
Hi. I have quite a lot of 1.75mm filament in various different colors and materials (ABS, PLA, Nylon, etc.) and I'm wondering what I need to do to be able to use it with my Mendel90? Obviously I need a different hot end (and was thinking of the E3D all metal hotend) but do I need a whole new extruder or maybe just a different hobbed bolt? Or, can I simply put the 1.75mm filament into the stock Meby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90

This seems like pretty strange behavior. I installed OpenSCAD and have been playing with the example files and the Mendel90 files. When I zoom in or zoom out the image stays the same (the image zoom level never changes) but the text in the console gets larger or smaller. Does this happen to any other users? I want the image zoon to change not the console text. Thanks for any help.by Garry Bartsch - Mendel90

By the time I get the printer together and printing I will have asked basically every question possible. Sorry :-( The bearings fit into the Wade's block are indeed a tight fit. We carefully used a vice, still the plastic on the thinnest area facing the idler shows stress marks. But I see no evidence of the wall bulging out at the point. Is this normal? The stress marks mean we have weakened thiby Garry Bartsch - Mendel90
