Hi everyone, I tried to find a clear answer on this but I got no luck so here it is, Everyone mentions how belt tension is very important but how thight does it have to be exactly? Does belt tension really have to be that high??? Belt tension video I have a printer based on a Mendel Prism (very solid machine) and I'm using GT2 pulleys and Belts. Thank you.by thecrazy - Reprappers
If anyone stumbles on this old post again, try Repetier Host. Its like a mix of Pronterface and ReplicatorG. It doesnt envy anything from the new (and closed source) Makewareby thecrazy - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
Are ultrasonic cleaners that hard to make? these instructions seem easy enough:by thecrazy - General
I caused this same problem on my printer by accident. Fortunatly i know what happened, I made the y axis belt skip a step on its pully.. Watch for that. Make sure your belts have proper tension and if your using printed pulleys maybe they are not very good On my printer I use molded GT2 pulleys and GT2 belts and never had this problem unless I obstructed the Y axis myself (which Is what made itby thecrazy - General
Just had a similar problem. Check the gears on your extruder, make sure there is NO (as in zero) slack in between them. If there is you need to reajust it. Also check the trap door on your extruder and make sure the hinge is not damanged. Mine was, which affected the pressure being put on the filament/hobbed bolt. Check every part of your extruder for damange/missalignedment/slack, same thing fby thecrazy - General
I'm glad someone who really understand this stuff is on here. Personaly I am allready using the SDRAMPS wich does solve the problem but I dont really like that solution. Transfering to the SD card via com port is very slow and I dont really like messing with a micro sd all the time. Mind sharing with us what you see as the major problems with the RAMPS/Arduino design that affect the serial oveby thecrazy - General
I agree xiando, but im thinking we should probably all shield our electronics anyways and use a minimum of filtering. I think there is several causes for the same problem here. Which is that the serial over usb connection is very sensitive. Does anyone with good electronic knowledge know how we would go about shielding the Arduino/ramps? would lining the inside of an enclosure with aluminium papby thecrazy - General
And btw, the only reason our problem is random and yours is not is that your interference comes from the ceiling fan that YOU turn on. Ours probably come from our refrigerator. Come to think of it I have a freezer plugged into the same circuit... stupid me.by thecrazy - General
IF you read the new posts in the thread you will see that we are talking about interference comming from other applicances in the house. Its very possible that power fluctuations or emi in the AC line causes issues. When you turn on a ceiling fan there is a motor in there that draws a lot of current on startup, that alone is probably what cause your problem. You should try pluggin into another cby thecrazy - General
Dont know if you guys have read that other thread "Aggravating serial issue" The guy has the same problem when he turns on his ceiling fan. Its really looking like interference in our power source. A ceiling fan, a guy with his refrigirator, a lamp, having less issues when powering the Arduino from a wall adapter and I just realized I have a freezer plugged in the same circuit as my printer ANDby thecrazy - General
Sorry Idaholion, I missread you before, I thought your laptop was not connected to the AC. Mind trying with it disconnected? The test usign linux, its to figure out if there could be a software solution to our problem or not. I am not saying use linux, its just to pinpoint the problem or a possible solution. Im thinking there might be a difference in how communication errors (cause by interfereby thecrazy - General
I was thinking about this and, like mentioned earlier in the thread, if there was no crashing while printing on a MAC Im thinking it was probably a laptop and running on battery. This could make a difference. Would be interesting to try with the AC plugged in. I think I may have a solution to my problems, One solution would be to encase the electronics in a metalic case to shield it and use a sby thecrazy - General
Hi, im having the exact same problem. I agree that the problem is with the RAMPS or adruino electronics. I ended up (under Richrap's recomendation) using an SDRAMPS which fixes the issue completely but its annoying to use and forget about uploading your gcode from pronterface, its WAY too slow. Like thejollygrimreaper mentions, im sure the difference is in how PC usb ports work vs how Apple doesby thecrazy - General
I had a SDRAMPS so I installed that which definitly solved my issues with large prints. My usb cable is about 6 feet long and I just realized that the printer is above my computer tower which is connected via wifi. Could be an issue with RF interference. Will have to try to install ferrites on the cable and maybe shield the electronics.by thecrazy - Reprappers
Hi everyone. I need a little help with my electronics/software setup. I finished building my mendel Prism a few weeks ago and up untill the last weekend everything was going fine but now when I do a long print or multiple prints one after another, my printer eventualy stops printing in the middle of a print with no apparent reason and wont respond in pronterface. It even crashed after only prinby thecrazy - Reprappers

Dont want to hijack this thread so I'll be brief, I'm building my first reprap and I dont understand half of this thread but it sounds like I may want to change my mind on getting J-head. If someone can suggest a good hot ends to me by PM that wont cause me all these headaches Id appreciate it. Thank you, and grats for the amazing developement effort, im sure there will be an update to Slic3r beby thecrazy - Slic3r
Before using any glue on this I would contact Printrbot and ask them to replace the part. Its obviously defective. Until you get your answer maybe stick to using something less permanent, like any kind of tape.by thecrazy - Reprappers
I would like to use a printed y carriage, so I too am interested in hearing about its possible problems. thx.by thecrazy - Reprappers
I have read a blog were the guy said he used cheap polulu drivers from ebay and they worked great... So i went there and found this guy selling Ramps 1.4 kits from china. check it out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Reprap-Ramps-1-4-and-4-pololu-compatible-drivers-1-SET-/150828115953?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item231e0e67f1#ht_2216wt_1396 Have you guys heard of this before, are they reliable? Yes but Arcol.hu allready sells his Grooved 608 bearing if you ask gently. He asked 6$ for mine YMMV.by thecrazy - Reprappers
Hello everyone, I know I allready posted this under the another section of the forum, and sorry if a repost annoys some of you, but the project ends in 4 day and I think it would really suck if it failed. I have seen a bunch of videos with gears slippings... especialy with cheap filament. I thought this would be an interesting upgrade! Check out what Arcol.hu has been up to! and pay attentionby thecrazy - General

Check out what Arcol.hu has been up to! and pay attention to quality of the teehts in there!: Only 12$ to get on in the fun! But hurry up theres only 4 days left to sign up!!! Thank you very much for the feedback, I also just found out about the BUDASCHNOZZLE 1.1 from I read its a "clone" of the Arcol hotend... very expansive too, just like the Arcol. I found the J-Head at 54.95$ from I will probably go for that unless you guys recommend another store. Fred.by thecrazy - Reprappers
Hi everyone, I am new to the reprap world and currently building a Mendel Prism. Did a lot of reading but still cant decide which hot end to go with. At the moment I am wondering If I should go for a Arcol.hu v4.0.5 or a J-Head Mk IV-B. Im also wondering If they are worth the money... maybe I should just stick with a regular hot end like they are selling here? -Click me- There is also a hoby thecrazy - Reprappers
