From my readings, the biggest challenge to printing an overhanging profile is caused by the varying heat flux. That is as you move away (up) from the build platform the temperature gradient of the object is not consistent. It can be done, and there are examples. Example of an overhanging profile: My notes are incomplete for this image, but I think it's an example of varying heat flux for low mby A2 - General
That's called the StarJet, I like that design, and from what I have read they are pursuing a patent. The design solves the problem of leaking, but I think it's prone to clogging from particulate and oxidation due to the small orifice diameter. They have made some changes though to improve it some. The LISA 3d Delta Printer would be a good platform to further develop GDMm, as it uses steel threaded rods, which can support a lot of weight. Consider making the arms out of metal (aluminum, steel), or epoxy/glass/carbon fiber. Add a worm gear drive to give it an added measure of safety (anti-reversing), and the ability to move a heavy mass. LISA Simpson Worm Drive Grounded Delta Printerby A2 - General
@nicholas.seward Simpson 3d printer calibration: What does calibration involve, after thinking about it I don't have a clue If I were to guess calibration would entail some of the following: Accurately measure the center to center distance of pivots (arm lengths). Temperature control of hot end and platen. End stop firing. Stepper motor voltage, amps. Platen leveling. The amount of nonlinearby A2 - Delta Machines

The metal screws make this concept a better platform for the globular deposition modeling of metal welding (GDMm), as it could support a lot of weight! Add a worm drive, and it could really lift/support a heavy weight. Components are looking good! What is the fit of the bearing like over the threads (slip, interference)?by A2 - Delta Machines
This is exciting, we now have Globular Deposition Modeling of metal (GDMm) I can't wait to see the first organic frames for cars, motorcycles, scooters, bikes, wheelchairs, hospital devices, and the like! You can make hardware for the home, farm implements, cookware, sporting goods, the list goes on... I bet there will be some cool steampunk art/costume that could be made with it too. QuotePeteD Would a spinning threadless ballscrew work as a filament driver? Or is the diameter of filament too unreliable? The biggest hurtle I can think of is that variation in the filament diameter would cause the ballscrew to disengage. I had the same idea, and have made paper sketch of it as a reminder. The main challenge that I see with it is that the filament would rotate with a singleby A2 - Delta Machines
@Dannydefe A few ideas: Graphite loading: If there is not a heavy loading of graphite at the interface of the nut and thread, it will always be sticky, and require lubrication. If you were for an example to use Nylon rod and tap it, most likely it will be undersized, and produce a tby A2 - Delta Machines
@ pjoyce42 Quotepjoyce42 Is the GUS Simpson a viable option as a first 3D printer? Why or why not? I think Simpson is a viable printer if you are only creating objects that fit air (vase, art) or can work with large tolerances (400 microns = .016 inch). If you need to produce objects with a higher precision then you'll have to wait for the Marlin firmware to be updated, or consider another pby A2 - Delta Machines

Oxidation will prevent bonding. Cool zirconia nozzle, is there plans to sell it? I have a few Coors zirconia parts that are precursors to a ceramic bearing. It's too many years since I've seen one, I don't know how far off it could be after 1000's of moves, another engineers project. But they are good for slightly dirty wet environment.
