Quotesmartfriendz Ha yes. You must be right. I will look at that . thank you . In the future ( 2 to 5 months ) , I will come with a no-M5-at-all solution for Z. There's no printer on this type with belt on Z ( of course, if you stop power, your head will fall on the glass and break ..something ! ) . I have an idea about that .. need to design and test, but i believe it can work well. Look aby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Glad to hear about the motors, really want to see it in action.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
With Y maxed, I think I've had my Z at about 150mm above the bed. I will check for you tonight on what my max is.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
I sent you a PM Mark... BackEMF, You got a piece of glass for that thing? Can't wait to see it print!by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Verteez, I bought one of the Version 2's Waiting on it's arrival now...by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Quoteregpye I am still doing some experiments with various speeds and retracts. So far the results have been good. I have sent Serge the files of my extruder and I guess that soon he will be sharing with you all, then you can do some testing of your own. Thanks Regpye. The stock Smartrap extruder works pretty well. (I slowed down the infill speed a bit) but I do occasionally get missed steps,by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
I'm posting my Marlin Configuration.h and pins.h files for those that may have a mirrored Y (front to back) axis.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Congrats on your Smartrap.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Mark, do you mean mirrored left to right (X) or front to back (Y). I had a front to back mirror when I built mine. It was easy enough to swap the direction in the Marlin firmware, but Getting the endstop part of the code to work was a struggle. I'll get my configuration.h and pins.h posted later today. Edit: Here's the files.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Verteez, I think the tongue that your talking about is the lock for the Bowden tube on the extruder side. It locks the brass fitting that comes with the Huxley hotend kit in place on the extruder side. You can see it in the build videos when Serge is inserting the tube. BackEMF, I think your going to enjoy your Smartrap build.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Well, I managed to get something printed tonight...by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
When are you going to get your new design uploaded? I've got to get more PLA!!!by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Mark, Your probably right about the fishing line. Too many people with good results for it to be the problem. My problems probably came from not having the right size line, and I really Really suck at tieing knots. The Belt is just easier for me to get right.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Just ordered the J-head lite V2. Hope to start getting #2 built soon.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Very Nice. Do you plan to share the geared extruder stl? I'd like to try it at some point.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
You have to give the firmware an offset for the Z probe. So it knows the distance from the probe to the tip of the nozzle. If you haven't set the offset it might be part of your problem.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
I used the Smartrap Slicer config from the github and it printed great from the start. I have been tweaking it mainly to account for differences in filament. My first spool seemed to be of better quality than my second spool. Lower Temp and Higher Speeds. I've also played with infill just to see the difference. You should post up what your Slicer settings are after you get it running smoothly fby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Great Job Mark. I have a bunch of those fans I pulled from HD caddies. Guess I have more to print now lol... My current Z offset routine is... Mark a spot on the bed Move the Nozzle to that spot and lower till it touches. Raise till I can get a piece of paper under it. Zero Axis (G92 X0 Y0 Z0) Raise Hotend 20mm Lower Probe (M401) Place probe back over mark on bed Lower Z until Endstop triggersby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Definately interesting Regpye. You should start a thread on your builds. I'm interested in the geared extruder too.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Regpye, I'm interested in seeing pics of your builds.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Vert, someone suggested to me on a forum about using a tiny bit of vaseline on the Z axis threaded rods of my Hadron build. So, I put a bit on Smartrap too. Seems to work pretty well. I think that it helps with the coupler issue too since there is less friction trying to twist the rod in the coupler. I think it was BackEMF that suggested the Perfection Loop knot to me. It's in the link he providby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Hi Verteez, Thanks, I haven't printed any torture test yet. I've mainly been printing parts for another Smartrap. I've also printed some parts for a Ordbot Hadron kit I started last year but never completed. Update on my Smartrap is everything has been running pretty well. I did have an issue where I was having to reset the Z offset between prints. The captive nut on the Z axis had play verticby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Looking Great Mark! I see what you mean about the Jhead Lite. I went to order one today, but he pulled the listing. Evidently a version 2 is coming... I can't wait to see your prints. Mikeby madmike8 - Smart_Rap
I used 50lb Spectra Braided line. I used 7 turns, and as tight as I could get it. I know I suck at tieing fishing line and that's probably where most of my problems came from.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Done! Yeah... Guess I will have to drill a hole for the belt, but that's pretty easy.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Everything looks good. M3 screws thread in and the 8mm Rod presses in tightly.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
Printing now... I will let you know in a little while.by madmike8 - Smart_Rap
