Last weekend while trying to resolve a problem with the extruder on my new build RichRap 3DR I occidentally connected the power connector one pin over to the right, thereby swapping power and ground on the 5A feed. Needless to say the magic smoke escaped. Now when I connect the board to my bench supply it is a dead short and fails to start. However I cut one of the legs on diode D2 and it nowby zitman - RAMPS Electronics
Kurzaa - I had commented out the line PREVENT_DANGEROUS_EXTRUSION which meant Marlin was happy to extrude at any temperature. UPDATE. If I did an auto home before trying to extrude then the x carriage stayed still and the extruder motor ticked and the driver got very hot. I bought four steppers from the same source at the same time all of which came with detachable cables the three on the axesby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi all, Got a really strange problem, I connected the extruder stepper to the E0 connector on the RAMPS 1.4 board and using the LCD did a move axis on the extruder. The X motor moves really slowly but the extruder stepper stays still. If I move the X, Y or Z axes or auto home everything behaves exactly as they should. I tried another RAMPS board which did the same. Sadly I later fried the spby zitman - Delta Machines
Cheers, thanks for that. Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Just watched your video. - Very impressed. I was wondering though with your dry run, what geode file did you use for the test? I am building a RichRap 3dr and am at the test running phase and could not get any of the files I created with Slic3r to work, presumably because they were waiting for things to get up to temperature etc. I hand crafted some simple gcode which worked but was lookingby zitman - Delta Machines
If I recall correctly I had a problem with my include and ended up extracting the u8glib library into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\libraries folder than using Skecth|Import library which sorted it. Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi all, The 3DR build is progressing. I have got a stick on round bed heater and a 2mm thick aluminium disk of the same diameter. What I was wondering is how do I mount the bed thermistor? Do I stock it between the self adhesive heating element and the plate? Can i notch the edge of the disk and stick it in there with some thermal cement? Thoughts, this has me a bit stumped. Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_RAMPS_13_EFB is defined in boards.h as 33. One thing I did find though was when I tried #define MOTHERBOARD 33 it didn't work! Zby zitman - Delta Machines
HI Pablo, Yes it was the motherboard setting but it did not work when I changed it to a numeric value I ended up using the following: #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_RAMPS_13_EFB Hope that helps, Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Thanks guys for the assistance. Its working now, the problem was a PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair). I had set the appropriate elements in configuration.h for the LCD but not for the mpotherboard! What a dummy. So once again thanks and on to the next crisis : Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Oh yes. Other changing the contrast of course, nothing useful happened.by zitman - Delta Machines
I have tried swapping the connections around on the adapter board and the screen is now completely blank. Any more thoughts or suggestions anyone?by zitman - Delta Machines
Thanks for the reply. I read on another post to put the folowing at the top of configuration.h: #include "U8glib.h" which made no difference. The U8glib is installed. Will try swapping the leads this evening. Understand what you mean about the display affecting performance but I have it now and would like to get it working at least for now, I can always ditch it and use a Raspberry Pi using Oby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi All, Mechanically I am progressing well but I have just connected my RAMPS board to the Mega and added the RepRap Discount Full Graphic Smart Controller. The LCD panel is not working. This is the board: And this is what it looks like when powered: As suggested elsewhere on the forum I put #include at the top of configuration.h Nothing else is connected to the board other than the steby zitman - Delta Machines
Thanks for that. Hoping to have the electronics done by the weekend. Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi all, My RichRap 3DR build is progressing nicely, I am about to start on the electronics. I am using a RAMPS board as I had one already and was wondering how the jumpers under the motor driver boards should be set, I read on the RepRap wiki that they should all be jumpered for 1/16 step. Is this the case with the 3DR? Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Alex, Just had a look at the UK site and seems extremely cheap. Will definitely give them a try for my next project. Zitmanby zitman - Extruded Aluminum Frames
I have a Clarke CMD200 from Machine Mart which is basically a Seig X2. Good little mill, although the electronics packed up after a week but Machine Mart replaced the whole mill immediately with no problems. Zby zitman - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
Thanks for that, I was thinking along the same lines with regard to friction because of the bowden setup . My only reason for considering 3 mm was that my I3 is 3 mm so got a few spools of 3mm filament. Anyone else got any thoughts, I will probably order a1.75 mm E3D V6 hot end on Monday, although they are out of stock of the 1.75 mm for a couple of weeks! Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi All, As said in previous posts I am building a RichRap 3DR, I have printed RichRaps extruder which is 1.75mm but my Prusa i3 is 3mm so I am considering using a 3mm extruder on the 3DR. I have had a quick look on ThingiVerse for 3mm bowden extruder and was frankly confusedby the number avalable. So to the questions: 3mm vs 1.75 - Bearing in mind its a bowden setup on a delta printer, what aby zitman - Delta Machines
Had been looking on EBay but wasn't sure which ones to go for. I have ordered some from Igus which look good. Due today so will check them out over the weekend and report back. Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi all, I am building RichRap 3DR and am struggling to locate suitable u-joints. Can anyone suggest a suitable part and, hopefully, a UK source please. Thanks Zby zitman - Delta Machines
I am UK based and use RS. May not be the cheapest and no cutting service but always seems to be in stock and free next day delivery. Hereby zitman - Extruded Aluminum Frames
Hi adividm, Thanks for the info. I have not decided what electronics to use yet. I have a spare RAMPS board and Arduino Mega so will probably use that, at least to start with. My smooth rods should be here by the weekend so I am hoping to start bolting things together at the weekend. How much of a task was it to set up and calibrate? Zby zitman - Delta Machines
Hi all, I am new to 3D printing having had a Prusa I3 back in October. As with my other main hobby, old motorcycles, one never seems to be enough ao I have started building a RichRap 3DR. I have printed 3 sets of - motor mounts, electronics mounts and top covers together with the rod end adapters, extruder and the top and bottom triangular parts. I was wondering what issues anyone else had coby zitman - Delta Machines
Alan, Have used both of those fittings and found them fine. The screws supplied with the open type will self tap into the holes in the end of the extrusion but I found it all went together easier if I tapped the hole first, but you can get by without doing that. Zby zitman - Extruded Aluminum Frames
