Hi Simon, I didn't notice this until just now, but I've bought inexpensive roll-wraped 10mm CF tubing on eBay. It was for a special order and it sure looked beautiful! If I remember correctly, the seller may have been in Hong Kong.by Haydn - Delta Machines
QuoteDjDemonD But I do need to make some new rods for the fishtank printer in abs or petg as it gets quite hot inside, if I can sort the leadscrews out first. So I could try the 10mm carbon tubes (assuming they fit over the Haydn rod ends?) and then I could swap rods and do some fairly well controlled testing. This is such a wonderful discussion -- I love solid engineering! On my printers I've been seeking to reduce ringing. The first thing I did was add diagonal bracing to the frame, which made it a lot stiffer. Second, I spoke to the engineer at Goodwinds (who produce the CF tubing) and he said that for this application, the 0.230" strong walled CF tubing is more than stiff enough. DjDemon's recommendation of the bed diameter plus 10-20% is usually a good one. I use 360mm arms on my machines with 300mm diameter beds, and that works out with a bit to spare. However, I also noticed that you mentioned that your horizontal extrusions are 410mm. Is your print bed going to fit completely inside of your base triangle? On my printers I use 360mm horizontal extrusions, and the beby Haydn - Delta Machines
I generally side-step this problem (and also the problem caused by temperature changes making the aluminum expand/contract) by printing the first layer with a thickness of 0.2mm, and then printing the rest of the layers as thin as you please.by Haydn - Delta Machines
I recommend against adjusting the length of the arms, because on the arms I've built, their length is an accurately measured quantity. Instead, I adjust the number of steps per mm of belt. I've built some machines where the belts got slightly stretched, and this made things come out perfectly. After adjusting the number of steps per mm (for example from 400 steps/mm to 404 steps/mm because theby Haydn - Delta Machines
Yes, I wish that the Delrin rod ends were reusable, because occasionally I botch one. I am able to take them apart and recycle the magnets. The CF tubing can be cut shorter and also reused.by Haydn - Delta Machines
Hi MKSA, I contracted with a machine shop in China to have these ball studs custom made. They work great in delta printers, because they're inherently zero-backlash. I sell them for $1.50 each. You can order them directly from me. Postage to Europe is around $14 for a few sets. In Europe, you might be able to order them from: They've got a shipment coming in. Hi Olaf, That is a clever and perhaps new jig design! I've learned that the most important thing to do when I have an idea on how to improve the process is to put it into production and then measure the results. If the parts come out better, then it is a success. If not, then I try to learn something from it. With the threaded steel rod jig I've published, one can easily produce sets which matcby Haydn - Delta Machines
I'm impressed! This is very clever! I'd say it's ideal to have a gap of about 0.05mm between the magnet and ball stud.by Haydn - Delta Machines
If you imagine that the effector is triangular, with the ball studs near the vertexes, then you can minimize this problem by rotating your hotend and especially its cooling fan so that the cooling fan is at the middle of any side of the triangle -- this will place the hotend cooling fan as far as possible from the ball studs.by Haydn - Delta Machines
Did you ever find out how to tune your Geeetech DRV8825's? I've got a set I'm dying to try out, but I can't figure out how to tune them. Should they be connected to the steppers? Should the Ramps be connected to 12v or instead should the Arduino only be powered by USB? I've tried leaving the steppers disconnected and measuring VREF with 12v connected to the Ramps, in which case I measured 12v! Iby Haydn - Reprappers
