Thanks BrianC, Thank you. Yeah I almost forgot that printing that Android sorta concludes the building phase hehe. I'm very glad everything seems to be working and that it's now only a matter of tweaking. I'm now going to change that z value since this indeed seems to be one of the problems.by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi all, So today I've managed to print the "first time android." It was sliced with the new SF settings. In the pictures below I've circled a couple of areas where there seems to be a problem. One of the problems was that I wanted to do another z home point calibration but the outline of the object was so thin that I couldn't get from the bed without just snapping. It was almost like spider webby Nilez - Mendel90
Ok thank you, I missed that point. Going to tighten them up.by Nilez - Mendel90
Thanks RM. I understand how to move in the xyz directions but then you are bound by the smallest increments of 0,1 right? So what if you need to adjust it just a little more (say 0,05) to just touch the object. Or am I aiming for useless precision here?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, I was wondering what the preferred tightness of the couplings is? Right now I have a 1 mm gap between the two halves, but saw a picture somewhere where this gap was closed.by Nilez - Mendel90
Yeah I was constantly thinking about the bed not being level then, and remained confused about this. So it can be done automatically with pronterface then? But how do you precisely land on the object with pronterface? for example on a piece of smooth rod like Chris mentioned?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, I don't quite understand the practice to obtain an accurate z_home_pos. In the manual it says to "nudge" down the z axes to an object of known height. Should this be done by turning the lead screws again is with the bed levelling procedure? And again in all four corners, or (only one) particular place on the bed?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hmm, I put the printer on a solid trolly table, so now I could also pick another spot in the room to place the printer and see how this would affect the leveling of the bed. Well it made a huge difference! In the other corner of the room the front right pillar now needed to be screwed upwards to higher the corner! Man, I didn't expect the bed level to be that sensitive to change. I have a spot piby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, I'm trying to level the bed with a paper card beneath the nozzle. The problem I'm having is that I can get all corners leveled pretty close except for the front right one. I've tried to level the bed on two different flat surfaces so far. The problem is less on the surface I'm using right now. The bed is almost level but the paper card has to be pushed more to get it under the nozzle in thiby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi folks, I'm trying to find printrunconf.ini on a win7 32 laptop. I've opened pronterface.exe once and then looked for it in the file C:\user\username folder. I've checked the "show hidden files and folders" option and also unchecked "hide protected system files" but I don't see the file. Also the search gives me nothing. Where can I find it?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Chris, Yep definitaly below 25 C. More like 20. So they rise that fast then. Thanks for pointing out the consistency in addition of the values due to the multimeter. When I hold the pins together I indeed read 0,6 or 0,7 ohm.by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi folks, I've measured the resistance between the connections named in the manual. I have to mention I'm doing this with a cheapo multimeter but I'm getting 125KΩ for between the thermistor wires, instead of 100KΩ mentioned. Is this the multimeter, acting all unprofessional or is this ok? Also maybe these values are out of order?: Extruder heater: 6,5Ω (manual: 5,8Ω) Bed heater: 1,9Ω (manualby Nilez - Mendel90
Ah thanks QP! That is sorted out then. As I'm quite bothered by OCD-ish behavior during these sort of projects myself, I'm gonna stick with black as GND as wellby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi folks, I was doing a last check-up on the wiring of the melzi before calling it a day and noticed that in the table in the manual it says the black wire (Bed thermistor GND) goes to the BTEMP GND terminal on the Melzi. But in the picture I see the red wire connected to that terminal. At least that is if the upper terminal of the two is BTEMP GND? Or am I seeing this the wrong way? I thought tby Nilez - Mendel90
I thought I had cut the bed heater wires too short to reach the melzi but I've mistaken them for the thermistor wires! Please ignore this post.by Nilez - Mendel90
Great, thank you. I think I have one of those bottles.by Nilez - Mendel90
Ok I don't have bearing oil but I do have engine oil so I'll go for that. Do you apply the engine oil with a brush?by Nilez - Mendel90
WD40 should probably be standing on the shelf over here but I thought I'd read somewhere that it collects too much dirt and dust?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell which oil is best to use for the Z lead screws?by Nilez - Mendel90
Ok thank you. Then I think I've found a spot where that happens. I'll place the motor a little further away.by Nilez - Mendel90
Absolutely, thanks for the tip.by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Chris, What exactly is binding? Is that when there's a lot of friction between the gears and it is hard to turn them?by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, I was wondering how to best go about the procedure for engaging the gears. Do you push the motor gear tight against the big gear and let them get loose enough "on there own" by turning the gears enough times, after which you fix the motor position? Or does one have to position the gears manually to make sure they don't bind or have too much backlash. I don't know how to do this correct sinceby Nilez - Mendel90
Ok thanks Chris, that one doesn't seem to pricey.by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi Neil, So your type of wire stripper sounds great to have around if it can do such small gauge wire. I'll see if I can get my hands on those, since they would come in handy for other projects. And yes, I second the use of a cutter or scissors to split to individual cores. Indeed much more gentle on the insulation.by Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, Is stripping ribbon cables a nightmare or what! LOL. I had a few wire strippers laying around but all of them ended up completely ripping the strands of one or two halfway in the process. Had to do it three times over until I decided to just use a very sharp pair of scissors to make tiny cuts along the circumference of the insulation. After that I could finally peel it of exposing the undamaby Nilez - Mendel90
Hi, Just sharing a quick observation I made after reading the last comment from nophead. I'm in the building stage of the printer and have just installed the bed. No wires are connected to the Melzi. So I've let the stripped ends of the wires touch each other and the motor was indeed way more heavy to manually rotate then when not shorted. So definitely worth checking.by Nilez - Mendel90
