Update: I am much closer to built on my Delta-Pi. I did however run into one major snag which is going to require me to re-print an unspecified number of parts an unspecified number of times. My PrintrBot Simple badly skewed the prints along the Y axis as you go up Z, which resulted in the carriage handles being cock-eyed which resulted in the hot-end not being level, and significant strain on eaby beamsaber - Delta Machines

Seems to me you could create a printable tube section which could be somehow stacked to allow you to accommodate whatever length of acme rod you chose to purchase? Heck, might even be possible to put the motors inside the bottom mount of each tube with a fan on top of each one for airflow. would certainly make for an aesthetic printer hmm.. might obstruct the bottom of the print envelope now thaby beamsaber - Delta Machines
Actually, I am building a delta pi currently. I am experimenting with aluminum square pipe with a small inner diameter. So far so good. Biggest issue I have encountered is the parts are being printed on a printrbot simple which has just under a 100mm cubed print area so the hotend mount would not fit. Had to cut it into pieces in software and add bolting points. Also the printrbot spread out theby beamsaber - Delta Machines
Yeah, it is not ideal by any means. Going to use it for experiments and get a new board for my delta-pi. The expansion pins on the printrboard can run at least one extra motor (for dual extruders) so assuming the extruder driver is only disabled because of temperature, it should be OK for me to use the secondary extruder pins for the Z axis and update the firmware accordingly. I have been working recently on building a custom rail slider for my black magic cinema camera, needless to say I am being very careful to make sure it is stable. The idea crossed my mind however that as light as DSLR rigs can be (assuming you are using a small prime lens etc) it might be possible to build a robotized crane relatively cheaply using 3D printed parts to connect carbon fiber or steby beamsaber - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
I was able to find some reference to add a second stepper using the expansion pins. I may have to add two. I have purchased two stepper drivers from a local shop (MatterHackers) and am awaiting their delivery, most likely later today. Has anyone done this before?by beamsaber - Reprappers
I recently bought a PrintrBoard RevE which arrived with two burnt out stepper drivers (or at least one, the extruder does not seem to be working either, but not certain if that has to do with the temp etc) If I were to get a pololu stepper board for example, could I wire that into the expansion pins of the printrboard? If so, does anyone know where I could get an idea of the wiring and pins.h setby beamsaber - Stepper Motors, Servo Motors, DC Motors
If the Z driver is smoked, would it be possible to add an external motor driver off the expansion pins so that I can still run a printer off of this board?by beamsaber - Reprappers
The motors I have are rated for 5.3v .75A, they are bipolar steppers, but I'm using them as unipolar. No matter the motor config, the Z motor always vibrates. The X and Y always work fine. They are Vexta 2 phase C4041-9012 motors. I think we can rule out the motors as all of them work when plugged into X or Y.by beamsaber - Reprappers
I ordered a brand new Printrboard Rev. E from reprap.me earlier this month. Upon arrival I set about testing it using a minimal config (thermistor and motors only). Tests on the X and Y axis went beautifully, but when I ran a test on the Z axis, I ran into an issue where the motor just vibrates.
