how does that design keep the effector parallel to the build late? You would need a parallel diagonal arm arrangment. Neat idea. I think you would need a much higher bot to get cartesian style z heights.by umdpru - Delta Machines
All, with regards to modifying Andy's design - I would get permission from him. Also, I believe it's a part of the licensing to make modified files available under the same licenses? I don't know much about open source licensing admitedly.by umdpru - Delta Machines
I'll whip one up in the next few days and post it.by umdpru - Delta Machines
John, Can you post your updated Solidworks files to github? the SW files on your git are all old.by umdpru - Delta Machines
hhmm, I assumed you were using Marlin. I don't know what setting to change in Repetier to invert the end-stop logic from NC to NO. Have you checked that your X-tower motor is plugged into the X-stepper and the same for y and Z? EDIT: Change these settings: #define ENDSTOP_X_MAX_INVERTING true #define ENDSTOP_Y_MAX_INVERTING true #define ENDSTOP_Z_MAX_INVERTING true to #define ENDSTOP_X_MAby umdpru - Delta Machines
Thanks, Andy. I'll just use the stl file for ideas on how to best modify the 3DR simple effector. I'm using solidworks so sketchup files won't do me much good. I can appreciate not wanting all of your source files available. I'll be sure to credit everything back to you.by umdpru - Delta Machines
Zoltan, Solidworks can import STL files as long as there aren't more than 20,000 facets. You click open then choose file type "STL" then select options and check off "open as solid body". Solidworks defaults to importing STL's as graphics bodies so you can't do anything with them unless you open them as a solid body or a surface body. I routinely open printer STL parts in SW. Check to make sure your motors and end stops are properly plugged into the correct axis. I had the exact same problem after rewiring one of my machines over the weekend. I had my motors plugged in to the next axis I.e. X into y, y into , z into x. My end stops triggered perfectly too. Also, normally the firmware is set to use NO switches, I believe. Did you invert the end stop logic in marlin?by umdpru - Delta Machines
Jerk is mathematically the derivative of acceleration. In kinemqtics, you start with time and distance. Velocity is dX/dT. Acceleration is dV/dT, jerk is dA/dt. It's basically the rate of change of acceleration. My professor briefly touched on jerk in my college advanced machine design course 15 years ago. I don't use kinematics professionally so I've forgotten how to apply jerk math to a machinby umdpru - Printing
Does anyone have a decent Z-probe design for the 3DR or 3DR simple?by umdpru - Delta Machines
I printed all of my parts on my cupcake CNC at .2mm LH and 60% infill. I am fairly confidant that my actual print speed never got to 80mm/s because the acceleration is so low. It's more likely that the average print speeds of my machine was closer to 30-40mm/s with highs on longer straights approaching 60-80mm/s. Also, My first layer is set to 30% speed and my perimiter speeds are lowered by 50%by umdpru - Delta Machines
The Makerfarm Prusa I3V is a good machine. VERY rigid with good support and a great build video log series. You can get precision every bit as good with 3mm filament as with 1.75mm filament.by umdpru - General
you'll need a print cooling fan for small parts. the heat buildup is just too much to dissipate otherwise. How hot are you running your HBP?by umdpru - Printing
if the nozzle heater won't turn off then it's shorted. When those fail, they fail shorted (always on).by umdpru - General
very nice! I have finished reprinting my frame pieces and will begin moving everything over to the new frame. My previous frame pieces were not that great quality wise due to slicer and printer related issues. The new parts are some of the best parts I've ever made. For what it's worth, I transitioned away from Kapton tape on glass to just hairspray on glass. The ABS sticks like mad when the pby umdpru - Delta Machines
Very nice! I'm quite jealous, actually. Did you have any difficulties calibrating it? What did you use to print the parts in the first place? I had a thought last night that my steps/mm for the three axes could be causing my problems ( I left them at 55.5 default). I calibrated those and everything is very close so that wasn't it. I'm back to waiting to finish printing a new frame. I'm serioby umdpru - Delta Machines
what kind of cable is used to drive the mechanism? Is it a small flexible shaft like a dremel rotary shaft or a larger diameter hollow shaft? Does the filament go to the hot end through the shaft or separately?by umdpru - General
hercek, I am amazed at your bed graphics! I am also very appreciative of your support through all of these bed leveling questions.by umdpru - Delta Machines
It would appear that this thread has died. Has anyone gotten their 3dr simple to print well? I see many have them "printing" but how many are dialed in? An update on mine: 1. I have finished re-printing the bottom frame pieces. It seems the first round of parts weren't accurate. The new bottom frame places one tower approximately 1mm further away from the others. 2 always align but the thirby umdpru - Delta Machines
can you provide a primer on using your calibration notebook? L/F are both slightly high but the same and point R is low (below the build plate) on my 3DR Simple. The current position for my Z-tower is X:0, Yelta_Radius. If my understanding is correct, you are suggesting that tower Z needs to virtually move closer to R radially? Or, should I move tower X closer to R via changing it's Delta_Radiusby umdpru - Delta Machines
chris, The time required to print the pieces is highly dependent on the printer your using and it's capabilities. John had a very fast MendelMax to make his parts. I'm using a highly modified Makerbot Cupcake CNC which prints at 70-80mm/s. I believe John said his MM was printing at 150mm/s earlier in the thread. My bottom corner pieces take 7 hours a piece on my Cupcake and the wings take approby umdpru - Delta Machines
Very nice. I believe I may have found my issue. Using as a reference. I think one of my towers is slightly non-symmetrically located.by umdpru - Delta Machines
What was the final outcome of this calibration? I recently comleted a 3DR simple delta printer and I found I am having similar issues. I level X, Y, Z, C and then R is low while L and F are high. Does this indicate that tower X needs to be moved diagonally? or that tower Z needs to be moved radially?by umdpru - Delta Machines
I've been researching my options to convert what I have purchased for the 3DR simple into a Kossel. Ultimately, if I can't get it to work right then I'll convert it. I recently purchased a MakerfarM I3v upgrade kit for my MF I3, though, so anymore printer purchases will hae to wait. I found one interesting problem with my 3DR Simple. The Z-carrriage mounting lugs for the diagonal rod were crackby umdpru - Delta Machines
Yes, 4 printers. I'm no noob when it comes to these but this 3dr is kicking my butt. I'm putting serious thought into turning it into a kossel mini. I like the frame on that machine better. I'm going to reprint the Z tower carriage. I hope that one being messed up was the cause of my issues.by umdpru - Delta Machines
Thanks, RTurnock. I understand the theory behind using M666 and then adjusting Delta_Radius (adjusted via smooth rod offset). I also figured out that z home had to be set low to give the headroom to use M666 since it can't be positive. What I'm struggling with now is the inconsistent movement. I would expect movement from x-y (if concave or convex after M666) would be the same as the movement fby umdpru - Delta Machines
Well, working is a relative term. I can calibrate the Z tower endstops now. I think I have a fundamental movement problem. I calibrate the towers and am working on the center. I have gotten it close (~.1-.2 below Z0), however, I have an issue where the center is too low but points between the X-Y tower points track above the build plate and points between the Y-Z tower track REALLY low, ~1mm beby umdpru - Delta Machines
I don't know what version of Marlin_Marlin you downloaded (I assume March timeframe) but it's working! I can now adjust the z endstop offsets, I don't have a Z_min endstop showing triggered in M119 and I can turn off autolevel and compile. I believe my issues before were related to the fact that autolevel was enabled and expecting to use the Z_min endstop for the probe. I don't know why that woby umdpru - Delta Machines
Richard, What are the chances that I can get you to upload a copy of your Firmware, in it's entirety, to an online location like my dropbox or google drive? I'm at my wits end here.by umdpru - Delta Machines
So I downloaded the Marlin-Deltabot from Erik's git and it's different from the version I had. I was working from an old version. The auto level define is not in the configuration.h now.... this is quite the journey!by umdpru - Delta Machines
