Quoteroygpa I solved a pesky Y axis shifting problem by aiming a fan at the Y-Axis (I hit all of them) stepper driver. No matter how I adjusted the driver, it still skipped randomly. After adding a fan to cool it (it was hot enough to burn your finger) it hasn't missed a step. I'm thinking you should possibly look into adjusting the voltage / current to a motor that is running that hot. The fanby dclarkm - Printing
Possibly in need of some well placed crossbeams? I know that increases cost and complexity, but frame rigidity seems to be a (major?) factor in getting good print quality (I could be wrong). I would guess it becomes more important as you scale up a design.by dclarkm - General
Very interesting. Per above, where did you get it and I have to image it's a bit more pricey than window glass from Lowes....by dclarkm - For Sale
One major issue that stands in the way of "open source" hardware is the inability to ACCURATELY duplicate it (or even document HOW to accurately duplicate it). Software / firmware / code can 100% be accurately duplicated with a drag and drop by a fairly well trained monkey. Hardware at the development (and even well beyond, depending on the complexity) requires both skill and knowledge to dupliby dclarkm - General
Beyond increased structural stability, that appears to be a Kossel with 3x the structural parts.....why? I get part of this is developing something nobody has done before, but that change just seems unnecessary (unless I am unaware of some general stability issues with the Kossel design).by dclarkm - General
I assumed (my bad) that by "limit switch failing", readers would understand I meant EVERY component required to get the limit switch signal detected correctly. Connector and wire integrity is much more likely to be a point of failure than the switch actually going bad. I should have been more clear with my wording.by dclarkm - General
i've certainly seen the DoE "waste" money in worse ways..... (Just can't resist a combined Poop pun and Government spending combo)by dclarkm - General
Saw that when I viewed the video. My bad. Thought I saw a quad-copter shown for a moment....is that kit in the works? That would simply rock!by dclarkm - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
This looks highly interesting, but app needs Android support to get my support (I would hope that is something on your "to do" list).by dclarkm - Crowdfunding Projects Announcements
Quotenick6765 Maybe instead of buying the aluminum plate I can get a lot of things made of aluminum and melt it down to the shape I want. From all my knowledge of 3D printing (not much....yet) the importance of having a nearly perfectly flat bed to print on (leveling it aside) cannot be emphasized enough. How sure are you that you can cast a VERY flat surface? My impression of this subject iby dclarkm - Mechanics
The smoother and quieter part is actually a by-product of the actual intent....to greatly reduce the potential for a non-perfect part (which all parts are in some manner) generating accelerated wear and damage to both parts by always contacting the same surfaces.by dclarkm - Mechanics
This is really a holdover from larger scale industrial machines common control design practice (and makes sense at this scale as well). If a limit switch fails on a punch press that handles sheets of 12 ga steel, someone can get seriously hurt (not to mention property damage) if the machine does not default to a halt state when a sensor defect occurs. Saving some power is of little concern if yby dclarkm - General
Quotecozmicray speaks volumes about this thread in general What is this suppose to mean? I recommended the use of shielded wires for both stepper and endstop switches because there WAS a real problem in a printer build AND It is a GOOD practice to use good wiring on LONG wire runs. Just because dailafing is bumbling along with his printer build doesn't make the thread bad. One doesn't know ifby dclarkm - Reprappers
Quotedailafing It's ironic that people are asking me to read up on things, when it seems that some people are unable to read themselves. Can somebody tell me exactly where I have asked what "shielded cable" is? I do, however, recall asking for an example where shielded cable has been used on such a low-voltage setup. I believe the chances of inductive interference, or potential crosstalk is minimby dclarkm - Reprappers
