Just got my bed. It was from an eBay seller in Germany, nice to be able to get a circular piece and not have to take it to be machined: Which appears to be an aluminium/magnesium alloy. Very flat despite listing stating tolerance of 0.5mm. So might have all the parts together now. The other side is even more beautiful. Okay, so some progress. I fitted the new design effector and the rods. I was getting a lot of false triggers with the piezo sensor until I tightened down the four screws holding the upper and lower parts of the sensor assembly, and set a temporary 20mm/s2 acceleration during probing. Oh yes, I don't mean reduce the steps per mm for Z only. Reduce all the steps/mm for x,y and z by the same amount. If you think about it when the effector moves up or down purely Z only, all that happens is all three motors turn by the same amount. So to position your nozzle at z=40 all 3 motors must move the carriages by 40mm exactly. However when you move in X and Y then the effect of loweringby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
First fine tune your extruder calibration, print objects to get the exact extrusion amount, a slightly rough top layer can add 0.3mm easily. Overextruding by a tiny amount can add 0.3mm. Once you've done that, you need to print 2 cubes but different heights. Print 1 cube 20x20x20 Print another next to it 20x20x40 Now if they are both 0.3 too high so 20.3 and 40.3 then the issue is with first lby DjDemonD - Delta Machines
Yeah I'm not sure segments per second will affect printer speed. 8bit marlin can work with deltas as long as you want modest speed. My microdelta uses Rich Cattels marlin from 3 years ago and works fine (and quietly) at 1/32 microstepping on lv8729 drivers with 1.8 deg motors. It only has a 90mm bed. My XL runs duetwifi and happily moves at 400mm/s using 1/16th and 0.9deg motors. This would notby DjDemonD - Delta Machines

The rigid couplers are working on 2 of the towers, on one the motor is wobbling a little as it turns so something is slightly less well aligned. I'd quickly tweak it but nothing is easy to get at on this machine, especially the grubs screws on the couplers. That being said it seems that flexible couplers are not required if the axis is precise and the leadscrews are straight. In my design thereby DjDemonD - Delta Machines

- 8 years agoI was pleasantly surprised with my cr10 it came with wire cutters, cable ties, hex/allen keys the good ones with ball ends at one end, a nice sharp scraper, a memory card that actually works, a USB card reader and a decent shielded USB cable. Since I located the machine in a bit of spare space at work and all my other 3d printer stuff is at home, I can safely say that's all you need to print someby DjDemonD - General
On this build as I have designed it, its the carriages and the bearings for the lower end of the leadscrews. Would be more usable space with belts. The effector could be is the carriages we're and rods spacing was lower, but using the 55mm rod spacing might enable me to swap my smart effector onto this machine, and this effector onto my Xl. But it's moving around, I haven't yet had time to check how much the effector is tilting as I move around the bed. Well yes that might make sense, but if you measure your ballstuds they actually vary in size a fact Haydn has apologised about. There was a thread on this on duet forum. So to test the theory I took my 360mm delrin rods to a local engineering firm and got them to measure them accurately using the ball bearing method. That looks great, no not touched a nerve as such, I just didn't think an object that could fit diagonally on a "nominal" 200x200 bed would be that much of an ask to print. I have to remember having got very used to being able to reliably print across the whole bed every time (due to use of very accurate nozzle contact probes - Precision Piezo and Duet3D Smart Effector, and RRF) that not everyoneby DjDemonD - Delta Machines

Its alive! The rods don't foul the effector so very pleased with that. Now the real work of tuning and tweaking begins. Looking forward to trying to print on varied surfaces with the open base.
