This is a lot like a problem I'm having. Where, please, can I find the 'wipe' setting? I'm using Slicr 1.1.7 for the Mac.by TerryKidd - Printing
Does anyone know how to do this in Sketchup? I have the freebe Version 8.0.---by TerryKidd - 3D Design tools
I got some of this and had a quick go yesterday. I'm using SFACT with pretty much the same settings as PLA, just adjust for filament diametre. By golly does this stuff stick to the print bed!. I used clean, plain glass. The finished part is not as strong as PLA and needed to be removed with care. Also, the filament straight off the roll is rather brittle. It needs to be fed to the machine wiby TerryKidd - Printing
So, I've started an exercise to create a paste extruder body which is an easy fit to a Mendel RepRap pro X carriage. I've used google sketchup to add a flange to the side with 4 x 3mm holes that align with the Mendel's X carriage mounting holes. I will post this STL on Thingiverse when I'm happy with it. As this is my first run through the entire toolchain, drawing package -> slicer ->by TerryKidd - Paste Extrusion Working Group
"Kapton tape, Uhu stick, warm bed etc" But it will also print directly onto blue painter tape, correct? Thanks for the wiki page.by TerryKidd - Printing
Does anyone know if there is a variant on this that fits nicely to the RepRap Mendel X carriage. I guess making an adaptor would not be too difficult, but I'd like to save myself a bit of time.by TerryKidd - Paste Extrusion Working Group
I've just bought some of this stuff, haven't had chance to test it yet. So you are putting a layer of glue down from one of those Uhu sticks? Is there a blog post or a wiki page about how to do this? Thanks.by TerryKidd - Printing
Thanks Gary I've used the plug in you pointed me to and that works a treat! xiando, I'd have probably saved myself some trouble if I'd have looked for Fotlzs' export plugin, didn't think of it. I used cadspan. Thanks both!by TerryKidd - 3D Design tools
Thanks Gary that certainly gets the STL in at the right size. However, when I reexport it, using cadspan, it is needs to be rescaled by 2540% to appear to be the right size on the Slic3r plate.by TerryKidd - 3D Design tools
I'm running Sketchup on the Mac and importing STL files to Sketchup using the Jim Foltz plug in. When I measure an STL in sketchup a part that prints, as expected, at 100mm long measures as being 2540mm long. How can I set sketchup to give me the right size?by TerryKidd - 3D Design tools
Hmmm, interesting to see this one pop up again. I had some success using a lemon to clean the glass but I switched to just taking the glass off and using hot water and washing liquid then drying with a paper towel. When it's sqeaky clean the glass is well and truly degreased. Now using that (rather pricey) Faberdashery filament I struggle to even remove the print from the glass. I had to turnby TerryKidd - Printing
It is possible to print without going the SD card route, (and this can save a bit of time if you are experimenting, perhaps with gross calibration problems.) Just select the gcode and PRINT, but whenever I've tried this with anything serious I've found the printer has hung up after a few layers. (using a Mac Pro has a host) It seems possible to upload a file to the SD via the cable but this loby TerryKidd - Printing
I think you'll probably need to measure the filament diametre with a micrometre. 3mm will just be a nominal size, most likely. I have a set of electronic claipers that indicates 1/100mm. You can enter it in slicer to tenths. The usual advice is to take measurements at several places on the filament and take the average. However, with one brand of filament I discovered that it wasn't actually roby TerryKidd - Printing
I can testify to the effectivness of lemon juice, straight from the lemon, for cleaning glass. I cut a lemon in half, gave the glass a wipe over with the lemon and then polished the glass dry with a kitchen towel. The extruded PLA then stuck to it nicely. (and what a nice fluid dispenser the lemon makes, you couldn't make a nicer one in a factory.)by TerryKidd - Printing
Thanks Markus, another useful tip. This reminds me how indeterministic, with these layers of alluminium and glass, the actual bed surface temperature probably is. If the bed heater is rising towards the target temperature the temperature on the glass must be cooler. Then, 5mins, say, after reaching target temperature on the thermister the temperature of the actual glass may have caught up hmmby TerryKidd - Printing

How do I select a 3rd party(slic3r) generated file for skeinforge analysis? cheers Terry Kiddby TerryKidd - Printing
Thank you, demetris, mitchese and Core Storage(great name, I too wrestled with magnetic core many years ago) cheers Terryby TerryKidd - Printing
When I use SFCAT the extruder temperature command in the GCODE is M104 (Set Extruder Temperature and return to host). I'd prefer to use M109 (Set Extruder Temperature and Wait) as with M104 the print may (probably) start before the extruder has come up to temperature. And then we just lose the first part of the print because of the cold extrusion prevention. Question. How can I make SFACT use Mby TerryKidd - Skeinforge
Thanks James. I think the variable quality of different manufacturers PLA may be playing a part in some of my problems. I started off with my sample from Faberdashery and then bought some 1kg reels from a German source. Additionally, I'm forming a suspicion that the weather conditions, maybe slightly damper of late, may also be part of it. I had a 1kg reel of PLA and it's been sat out of itsby TerryKidd - Printing
Thanks for replying. >I now use a thin layer of PVA glue (mixed with water - probably 2 parts water to 1 glue) - wipe it on the glass and it works for several prints. And are you still heating the bed?by TerryKidd - Printing
My question, how do most people print PLA succesfully? Plain glass or tape? Heated bed or cold? Skeinforge or slicer? I completed my printer (Reprap Pro Mendel) just before Christmas and after some intial success with my first prints I'm now a little frustrated by still not being able to get consistently good prints. My problem this weekend has been, PLA, first layer is not sticking properly.by TerryKidd - Printing
Very good idea. Unfortunatly that flickr site is blocked at my work internetby TerryKidd - Printing
I'm just at this stage myself. I have a reprap pro with recent firmware. I was reluctant to start dicking around with it, however, if you have recent Marlin firmware you can recalibrate without re-flashing the EPROM. Put a mark on the filament, say 50mm from the place where the filament enters the extruder as described by Rich rap. Command 'Extrude 30mm' Measure what you have left. You canby TerryKidd - Slic3r
" I've just come to understand that kapton is just to hold the thermistor and resistor in place," I think most people also cover the glass with Kapton tape in order to get the print to stick to the glass. I've tried printing on glass without the tape and the part comes off.by TerryKidd - Reprappers
A little bit further on this. I installed the precompiled version of pronterface as per: However, the GUI that comes up when this is run does not contain all the controls that appear on the wiki page here:. It looks like a much older one. It does, however, allow you to control the machine, bed and extruder heats up, various axis can be driven but it will not allow you to set the profile Mendelby TerryKidd - Reprappers

Fixed that one. A wiring error. I hope to be ready to print tonight!by TerryKidd - Reprappers
Setting up a new machine. I just got to this stage late last night and, when testing the Z axis. 1 motor runs, 1 motor buzzes. I haven't had chance to investigate the wiring yet. However, as the two motors are in series it's hard to imagine a wiring problem would allow one to run but not the other. And this is just the same with the two mechanical couplers disconnected - no load to speak of. Iby TerryKidd - Reprappers
