I can see a lot of parallels, in the early days of radio and television, most people could not afford to buy them, so lots would build them, but who does that now, apartby johnrpm - General
Unfortunately, it is very hard to help people to find a way forward to an acceptable way to make money out of RepRap or Open Source if they don't understand and accept the basic principles of Open Source I dont see this discussion as how to make money, but keeping and reinforcing a community, Judging from the number of attempts to come up with an OH solution by various bodies and people, this isby johnrpm - General

Yes, this is called screw mapping, a laser measures the travel at many positions along the axis, and this "mapping" or error list is refered to when moves are made.by johnrpm - Mechanics
In the past, I have freely shared my ideas, (such as they are worth), because I am talking to fellow tinkerers and experimenters, not for the benefit of some business, I have read as much of the documents as I can swallow and it seems that CC allows for NC, if that is your choice, so be it. I am greatfull to arduino for making my life easier by creating their boards, I cant be bothered to build oby johnrpm - General
So does this all boil down to NC or not NC, I must confess that I just can not decide which is best, both arguments have merit. Copy shops are cheaper, but do they do development and give help and advise. Does NC allow companies to pretend to be open source but restrict others. can someone provide a concise answer, with advantages and disadvantages of both so this simpleton can understand.by johnrpm - General
Nice find, thanks for sharing.by johnrpm - General
Seems that there are as many opinions as posters, few can say they have had a truly origonal idea, we all stand on the shoulders of others. Some people like to tinker, and share what they are doing, whilst others are constantly thinking of "how can I make money", and a fair few in between. When the free software foundation started, I did not think it could last, but boy was I wrong, OS is my fiby johnrpm - General
rylangrayston OK, you have won me over, you sound genuine, good luck with the project. I think two coils of wire 2 magnets 2 mirors and a laser in any combination should not really be patentable ... its to simple! and electro magnets and mirrors and uv light have been around for a very long time. Thats how us normal people think, but lawyers see the world a different way, I know someone who haby johnrpm - General
Just found this thread, would be better in GENERAL. Welcome rylangrayston, like what you are doing, Edit, seems like threads on this scattered all over the forum.by johnrpm - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
He's using a stepper because steppers have open loop speed control built in Not sure what you mean, but a 12v wiper motor (scrap yard) running from a PC power supply?. I recently bought a pwm dc motor driver, 6amp, up tp 30v, speed pot and reverse switch readt built for £7, so good I bought another for stock. maybe I misunderstand. 3D scanning has come a long way, and lots of different approaches, some with source code, I bought an early version of DAVID, but have not used it much, bought a cheap kinnect from ebay, but do not have a good enough gpu to run skanect very well, parsley might be worth looking at, but uses a laser I think, i bought some lasers from the pound shop. I think its a positive thing to have more development on turning granules into filament, so some constructive comments.... why use a stepper and driver, why not a DC motor with gearbox, I think its important to have a consistant diameter of fillament, so the motor speed must be consistant, the screw must be a good fit to the barrel at working temp, the take up spool must also be tuned not to pulby johnrpm - Plastic Extruder Working Group

Sorted clicked the link in the right hand column, "sign up to forum" brings me back to index page, but help build or ask takes me to the forum.by johnrpm - General
Maybe it could evolve into something wider than just controllers?, who knows where it may end up. I shall follow as long as its a non commercial and patent free zone. P.S tried to sign up for the forum, but no joy.by johnrpm - General
Well done mate, this is like a breath of fresh air, I do not play games so do not have a controller, but would like to be involved for the long term with things like this. not interested in prizes, more the warm glow from helping others.by johnrpm - General
I am a cynic, life makes you that way, we will never go closed source heard that somewhere before. but I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, time will tell. As for the patent thing, some companies have been riding the gravy train for too long, the whole patent thing needs a re-think.by johnrpm - General
Also the BLENDER link is a good concept, like BOBC says, I think getting accurate parts will be a challenge but full marks for thinking outside of the box.by johnrpm - General
The galvo's are nothing new, but the saltwater resin lift is, I would not have thought that resin and saltwater should be mixed, but obviously can, so well done to them.by johnrpm - General

I have no details yet of price or condition, only that he has them in a warehouse, but with no bulb I would hope (expect) the price to be £30 or less, Hoping for £20, the price of a bulb, depending on model is between £70-£120 or more, if bulbs are present they will probably be near the end of life, so defeating the bulb sensing allows us to use our own light source. I am building a DLP printer, and have been looking at buying a projector without bulb (cheap) so that I can hack it without worrying about cost, remove colour wheel, defeat bulb sensor modiy lens throw etc. I have been in contact with a recycling company (I think) who have ten BenQ MP610 projectors, I'm still waiting for more info, but is anyone interested in a group buy, we may get a better pby johnrpm - General
I personally worked on such a system some 20 years ago, I think the patent system in not fit for purpose anymore., it was intended to facilitate the advance of ideas and technology, whilst protecting the inventor, the oposite now seems to happen, with patent trolls etc, feel better now I have had my first moan of the day.by johnrpm - General
can anyone give me some idea of the cure time for a single layer, I think creation workshop has a default of 2 seconds, is this optomistic or realistic. I know it all depends on a lot of factors, but if you have built a DLP 3dprinter, what times do you get.by johnrpm - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Victor Trying to get a rough idea of build time, with 10 watts UV LED, how long to cure a .050 layer, just a ball park figure would help.by johnrpm - Plastic Extruder Working Group
VDX QuoteI've modified 4 different DLP-beamers for 'lamp-less' operation and insert either BluRay-laserdiodes (405nm @300mW) or high-power UV-LED's (with 405nm too @9Watts) as light source ... Last night I was searching for UV led's, only seem able to get them from China, is 10watt enough or should I go for 30- 50watt, do you have any idea of the cure time for each wattage. for example, is 20by johnrpm - Plastic Extruder Working Group

Google dlp 3dprinter and you should find plenty of stuff, even a complete build on instuctables, creationworkshop, software, as well as others, I found a projector forum on how to defeat bulb detection, so you can use your own. sorry but to not have the links to hand.by johnrpm - General
