Banjer, you are correct if you assume a standard format printer, but not in the case where non standard formats are employed.by johnrpm - Slic3r
With multiple extruders x and y can have an offset, but no Z offset as far as I can see.by johnrpm - Slic3r
So does that mean only complimentary ramarks about sponsors/advertisers will be included ???, and would advertisers be allowed any editorial control, ie, approve content. I shall now get off my hobby horse and leave this to the community, I hope it all goes well and my fear of possible problems is misguided.by johnrpm - RepRap magazine
Just like most posters here I think it would be a good thing, but the cynic in me must come out, Will it be, by the community and for the community, will advertising be included, will it be truly independent, I am sorry to sound negative but if the commercial interests got the upper hand with this magazine it would be dangerous.by johnrpm - RepRap magazine
I would look into Mach3, your boss can buy it if its got the functionality you need.by johnrpm - General
Reprapers..... can mean many things and is ambiguous, many posts are for help with various things, so a heading of SUPPORT, or HELP may keep requests for assistance in one section rather than spread around.by johnrpm - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Sorry, can't find the original link, it was a while ago, but found a couple of low res projects on the same theme, keep looking its out there somewhere.by johnrpm - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
I may be wrong, but I have seen something like this done already.by johnrpm - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
I think bobc sums it up well, looking at the video they seem to be saying that things are changing but nobody knows where it will finish up, I could feel the wind of change when bfb sold out to 3Dsystems and I've had a sinking feeling ever since. I think companies will try to play it both ways, OS/OH, then closed when it suits them, the question is, will this deter developers.by johnrpm - General
I converted an epson to do pcb's, it used a tray, but it sounds like you want a flat bed printer, google should find some info, or duckduckgo if you prefer some privacy.by johnrpm - General
I was recently asked to build a jaw bone at short notice, the surgeon needed it asap as he was operating the next day, I did it and it was collected, the sense of doing some good to help others is far more valuable than anything else I can imagine, so if you are looking for a game changer, why not have a network of printers where the medical world can get models to help them before surgury, alsoby johnrpm - General
One of the main things that attracted me to the Reprap community was, Wealth without money although I don't see it so much now, I think we should be in either of two camps, open source/hardware or commercial, keep reprap or a new foundation for open source/hardware and let others who want to be commercial go some place else. QuoteAnd whoever raises his finger here may ask himself if there hadn'tby johnrpm - General
We have been warned in the past that open source/hardware would come under pressure form commercial interests, so this should not be a suprise, the question is what should happen now, in my view you are either open source/hardware or commercial, one or the other and cannot be both.by johnrpm - General
Maybe have a tube feed the powder and drop it onto a shaped vibrating plate, powered by solenoid or peizo??????????, I think it would lodge or bridge if you try to pass it shrough a hole without a carrier fluid.by johnrpm - General
Using static is a possibility, I experimanted with inducing static onto a sheet of acrylic with an ioniser and metal powder was attracted to it, I drew some text and it was clearly visable, but this approach has many limitations.by johnrpm - General
I did build a FDM some 20 years ago similar to part8 above, it had a single head and tiny sugical scissors to cut the fillament, it was for medical implant research, it worked well so I see no reason for part8 not to work. Roland comes across as abrasive but his ideas have merit.by johnrpm - Developers
Gypsum or plaster is used as moulds for clay and clay slip to absorb water, so may work, the paper cover may need tweeking though.by johnrpm - General
OmegaAF, Could you do some more drawings, I am having difficulty understanding your design.by johnrpm - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Depends what you mean by etch, try DOTG for engraving or B2G for relief, both are free and work well.by johnrpm - CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
I have taken heat pipes out of old laptops, the are excellent at transmitting heat, I think they have acetone or similar inside, the problem is as mentioned, they move heat from one place to another. Instead of water cooling why not pass air through the pipes, it would not be as efficient but a lot less weight., I do not know what volume of air would be needed though, I suppose the air could beby johnrpm - General
I think mach3 uses 9 or 10 digits but only displays the requested amount.by johnrpm - Mach3
The printer looks a lot like an UP printer with covers, which in turn is probably based on open source efforts, I agree with Dark Alchemist, some companies will always want to control the technology, but there will always be some brave hackers to defeat their attempts eventually. Its interesting to see the two schools of thought, the dinosours who want to control, and those who adopt a more openby johnrpm - General
Some time ago I did a crude experiment with a glass pipette with ink in it, when I touched the side of the pipette with a hot soldering iron a small amount of ink ejected. The hot end could be the soldering iron and a solenoid could bring the pipette ( or equivilent devise) into contact, a crude sort of bubblejet, ?????????by johnrpm - General
I read on barry's blog that he is doing a puppy for the raberry Piby johnrpm - General
I visited a company in the USA some years ago that were doing this, I forget the name now but they had a cnc miller with the ultrasonics and a tape roll of alluminium, with machining between layers, I think they found an application in military stuff, but for mould making and the like it was not competative. mesh and fibre optic cable can be embeded into blocks which is interesting.by johnrpm - General
Now that is what I call a project, I have bookmarked it for a thourough read, thanks for posting the link.by johnrpm - Polar Machines, SCARA, Robot Arms
As said I am not working on this at present but may in a year or so depending how things go, so really I hoped to get some feedback in case I decide to post on the Reprap forum if and when I start development. A year is a long time, I would ask the question when you are ready to go, but if you decide to develop it then go for it, and although the forum is getting more confrontational by some memby johnrpm - Developers
For a lot of gerards1111 posts, I only see ?, why is this.by johnrpm - General
Yes, it may be worth asking on the forum, my just be a minor issue?.by johnrpm - General
