Cool That is an interesting point, repurposing a UPS. Had'nt though of that one. I have lost prints a number of times through power intruption. Often man made. Anoying as my laptop or netbook keeps on going but the print has died. Quite a few of the smaller UPS's are 12V so should works as a direct feed in to run a machine. I think the battery in a UPS should cope with the peak demands reasonby aka47 - Controllers

A quick poll and discusion. I have been looking recently at abundance of cheap switchmode PSU's aimed at 12V halogen lighting and wondering about repurposing them for RepRap use. In many cases we only actualy need 12V. Their output is very poorly regulated as normaly they are operating loads that dont care. A feature of this is pronounced a 100/50Hz ripple as it is switching a rectified lineby aka47 - Controllers

I believe the same counter arguments were used during the discusion as to whether it would be beneficial to store PID values in eeprom and be able to change them via M codes. But here we are today with just this. Ultimately it realy depends on what sort of user you are. If you are using a specific design and or kit with all the variables tweaked to perfection for you, because you are focused soby aka47 - RAMPS Electronics

OK I might be in the wrong place with this post as it seems to be mostly support. If this is the case I apologise in advance. Secondly sorry for the post tittle I don't know if there is a 1.5 in planning or not. It was just using the next number onwards. Thoughts:- As there is an abundance of unused pins on the Arduino Mega/RAMPS combo why are we still using jumpers to select the microsteppinby aka47 - RAMPS Electronics

Sorry, slightly off the current direction.. I think Cathal Garvey (a bio technologist) did some initial work on reprapable lab gear. With things like the Dremmel Centrifuge. (It was on thingiverse) He also tried to do printable PCR trays etc but there can be issues getting the bottom layers to seal enough. I guess the rough surface texture could lead to cross run contamination as well. Has anby aka47 - Tissue Engineering

Oooops no link..... Printing anything novel and new is a great thing to do, so in so much as this is all of that it is a great idea. On resolution. This is far easier to acheive than is at first obvious and has been touched on lots of times within this forum perhaps a way's back though. So I will mention a more obvious method. I have ducks. Sorry looks pretty irrelevant at first. I have spent a little time watching the development of chicks from first stages onwards. The thing that stood out to me was that the blood vessels are seen to develop first along with the initial heart. It is a little strange to see a heart floating in liquid at the centre'ish of a spiders web of blood vessels, but this is exactly what haby aka47 - Tissue Engineering

Cris On the notion of talking to cells, (Sorry if my understanding is a bit weak here) I am given to understand that cells actualy automaticaly talk to each other and their relative positions to other cells that they "hear" stears their type and function. Stem cells for example are initialy neutral but change to type based on what they hear from their neighbouring cells. The talking is of couby aka47 - Tissue Engineering

Re the nature v nurture debate (or growing it v engineering it). There are issues both ways as I understand it. Nature ie growing it. Given the time it takes to grow a person to full size, if it takes a similar timescale to grow an organ the needy recipient is likely to be too dead to receive it. Growing requires more intensive support and nurturing than engineering. Particularly as it is likelby aka47 - Tissue Engineering

I think the only person who really knows Adrians where abouts and when is Adrian I guess he is a touch busy. He is an approachable sort of guy though. Have a look at the main rep-rap site for an email or PM him see what he has got on. The other guy to try is Jean Marc Giacallone. I hadn't tuned any of the steps per mm etc. Was just doing a test build with the minimum changes before getting into transferring in my usual values. I think it should be possible to keep the calculation if the result is explicitly is cast into it's final type. Even though both numbers are integers the compiler etc seemed to do the multiplication etc as a float which was then wrong to be storedby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

My config.h is the ramps 1.2 header that came with the fresh download. Attached here. My Makefile is also the one that ships with the firmware attached also. The errors suggest a type casting issue in the dda code and headers.....by aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

Guys It has been a while, I have been changing jobs and helping other folks with there machines. Finally got some time on my own. Guys I have been making some major progress but am still commissioning. I now have a line of Mini-Mugs in various states of print quality as I work through adjusting config.h for my hardware. Using the preserve order #define and the settings in the spreadsheet available from my blog It is interesting to note now much the print quality can be affected by the E steps per mm and as I am using aby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

OK Triffid. I think having had a read through the G-Code processor that some more of the commands need the buffer empty bit first in them. First of not really critical unless changing units etc mid print (So could stay as is, I mention it cos I noticed) G20 G21 G90 G91 If someone does try to change these mid print the symptoms will be interestingly apparently random loss of print scaling andby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

Because making the heated print bed is a parallel-ish task. I want the firmware compiled with it in. I guess it is parrallel-ish because it is taking most of the spare time I haven't got, working through the commissioning. Everything else is effectively either on hold or progressing so slowly that it might as well be. Yup the M109 problem was that I haven't got a heated bed and needed to put in a dummy 100k resistor and then set the temp of the bed to what ever the 100K resistor read out at. The M109 for the extruder temp exited after not too long and at the right temperature. Verified by the M105 before attempting to print. A bunch easier to see and fix when the temperature command returned sensible values iby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

OK Put in the patch etc, and that is much better, I can see perhaps now why my M109 is not returning. Thanks triffid. M109 waits for all the items to come up to temp not just the extruder (Is this correct or have I missed something) I have no heated bed but have configured it. As there is no thermistor, it is reading a temp of 4864.0 for the bed and this will be no where near what the firmwareby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future

Ok Further testing of the current master branch. Something is definitely fubar. I updated my local copy of master and recompiled just before taking the screen shots (GTKTerm does'nt script or cut/paste) See the attached files. cal.gcode has a bunch of reporting added to it so as to show up the issues. Basically it homes the machine, moves the head in and up a bit, heats the extruder, then isby aka47 - Firmware - experimental, borrowed, and future
