RRP are selling stuff via their website again and they've now made the Ormerod available (AFAIK it wasn't available before they stopped selling via their site) . It isn't any cheaper than the UK RS price however RRP may ship to you if you are outside the UK directly (with whatever courier fee) while RS may require you to buy from their local distributor who may charge a significant markup in somby Nil Einne - Ormerod
QuoteNewPerfection QuoteOhmarinus jermac17 and Doug1 seem to be the same persons, both bought on 10th of Dec etc. Besides that, I agree, it's smelling of someone trying to make them look bad. Um am I missing something? Why do people think it's a scam? If you wanted to mine consumer data, there are far better ways than this. Yes the OP may have posted to several different forums relating to 3D printing, you can debate whether that's okay or not but I don't see any evidence it's a scam. QuoteRadian Well it was just a musing. Still, there's a healthy hinterland where hobbyists do business on ebay selling quality built clones of things (e.g. stepsticks). Ebay reputation is one example of a loosely coupled quality control system that might be adequate. Whatever, I think sub-£1000 3D printing will remain a niche business until the big names see it as being a truly commercial proposiby Nil Einne - Ormerod
Also because of a story about 3D printing a house (which is using more normal materials) I came across . This is the South Californian team mentioned earlier, the one with the TED X talk / and and it's true most of the videos of the printer in action seem to be more or less the same thing of unknown printing date e.g. but they do have a few photos and powerpoint and animations and stuff.by Nil Einne - General
I'm a great fan of Chinese clones and cheap Chinese products from AliExpress, eBay, DX, Buyincoins etc but you need to know what you're getting in to, have some idea of what's possible, what exists and and not have unrealistic expectations and also know what you need to look out for and how to communicate with sellers. One notable thing is Chinese manufacturers are very prone to over inflatingby Nil Einne - General
Beyond the possibility this may be an attempt at future marketing, even if we accept is the OP isn't trying anything, this is intended to be a community forum where people share their experiences and ask for help, not simply somewhere for people to boast. A final comment on the main topic, I mentioned in the thread I linked to that the Ormerod appears to have attracted a lot of interest particularly from those without much experience without much involvement in the RepRap community before and how I was hoping this would be a great benefit. This benefit would come to everyone where applicable but may often come to the Ormerod first. I just noticedby Nil Einne - Ormerod

Wow this is great! I was quite interested in RRP's 3 colour printers and after the Tricolour Mendel came out was patiently waiting for others to do something similar. Was a bit disappointed when the Ormerod came out also promising triple extruder support and still not much else from anyone else or at least at a a decent price. Ordsoultions's 5 extruders is interesting but a little bit expensive fby Nil Einne - General
Ian: Offtopic but since it arose from something you said in this thread might as well mention it here. (I planned to add this to my original reply but took too long so realised it would be confusing since plenty of people including Ian had replied.) Quotevegasloki I think it's the availability of the tool that makes it successful and also the ease of use. I don't see most of the users being concerned with what license it's released under but rather what kind of things they can do with it. I don't see it at all like an NC license as the design is freely available to use even for a commercial app. With a clone, for example the Taurino, it'sby Nil Einne - General
Actually when I think about it a bit more, I believe driver signature enforcement on Windows XP x64 to Windows 7 x64 only stops unsigned drivers from loading. It doesn't stop them from being installed. (It does however completely stop them from loading, you need to disable driver signature enforcement at boot time or similar to get around it.) Since the lack of date issue only affects the driversby Nil Einne - Ormerod
I'm actually thinking something similar to eaj29. I'm more leaning to the RRP Mono primarily because I'm thinking I may eventually move to the Tricolour and it seems so far while dual extruders aren't that uncommon, very few RepRap have official support for that from the kit supplier, let alone triple extruders. But I too am unlikely to buy one until RRP starts selling it for various reasons.by Nil Einne - Ormerod
I'm surprised people have gotten it to work on Windows 7 64 bit without the date trick. I'm pretty sure Windows 7 64 bit, in fact all x86-64 versions of Windows since XP have had driver signature enforcement on by default (you used to be able to disable it although I think they removed this at some stage in either Vista or 7 after an update so you had to hack it to remove it). I don't know if it's really a matter of not listening. Okay some people did question how feasible the ideas were etc. But I personally had no problems accepting perhaps willdmo did have an idea of what they were doing and had thought of most of the major issues but still wasn't surprised at the responses, or lack thereof. You could try measuring the current drawn when you turn on the heated bed or hotend although with only a multimeter it may turn off too fast for that BTW, I don't know that much about using ATX2.0 PSUs with RepRaps. QuoteMattMoses Hi T3P3, there were the beginnings of a discussion about this in this thread. Personally, I think 10% is a little high (Kickstarter takes 5%) but I wouldn't mind paying the 10% for small projects, if that helped establish bounties as a model for open source hardware development. Perhaps as Bountysource gets competition the 10% figure may come down. I don't know if the fees are reaby Nil Einne - General
Quotedroftarts @DeuxVis - I was expressing my own opinion, not that of RepRapPro, so I left off the usual signature. I'm not a spokesman for the company, and I'm not trying to sell product. If I put my work signature on a post that expresses my opinion, it qualifies it as at least semi-official, which I'd prefer to avoid. BTW, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but another reason why Stratasys may have trouble targetting Adrian Bowyer is he lives in the UK and that's also where his company is based and AFAIK he doesn't really have any US operations for them to go after. So far all the patents mentioned have been US ones. I don't know if Stratasys has related patents in the UK, but if they don't targetby Nil Einne - General
These ideas are interesting, but I'm not sure if they would help if the patent is indeed a problem. As I understand it from the other thread, the patent doesn't refer to a heated bed. It refers to a controlled local build environment. So if a heated bed is considered to violate the patent, I'm not sure that a heated rotating rod wouldn't.by Nil Einne - General
Quoteswe3tdave Might be a good idea to put the code on your designs next time... Or maybe you could print the code on a thin piece of plastic to glue on your parts after you print them. elsalvador: I personally think FDM is the way to go for now if you're just looking at getting started in the 3D printing field, even for universities and others like that. On the other hand, you may want to do a write up or demonstration with photos or videos showing how FDM works as well as the effect this has on prints. And compare it do SLS. If moisture is the problem, I would store in any container with a resonably air tight seal and add some silica gel or other desiccant. Probably in a sock, stocking or some other way to keep it contained while allowing moisture flow rather than just in the bottom of the container. AFAIK, the allegedly key patents (or patent?) expiring in 2014 relate to SLS. How this will affect FDM is unclear. I don't think it's evem clear how much of a dampener the patents even are on SLS development. But even if SLS massively takes off and even if FDM suddenly gets a lot less popular because of it, it seems to me it would take a few years for this to happen. Thanks Ian. Mostly what I expected about triple head support. And yeah also understand given your position and likely even those in charge can't really predict how demand is going to change means, anything now is a real guess but sometime early next year also sounds good for kits direct (was thinking it could be 6 months or so away).
