I do this in pronsole: settemp 180 reverse 20 200 reverse 400 1000 I have a bowden setup so need to reverse quite a way. I then feed the new one in manually and extrude until the color change has completed.by ajayre - General
I assume you mean checked luggage... I know someone who did this in 2008 with a CNC machine US to UK - no problems at all. You may have to declare it to customs and pay import fees, depending on the value, country, nature of your trip, etc, etc.by ajayre - General
It's the heatsink block. Attaches to a cooling fan. Inside the threaded rod that goes through the block is a PTFE thermal break, if it is anything like mine. Never had a jam in 2.5 years of use. Andyby ajayre - General
My measurements of Faberdashery 1.75mm PLA: Red - 312g/m Buttercream - 3.08g/m Blue - 3.06g/m I made these measurements a couple of years ago along with empty spools so I could calculate how much was left on a spool at any time. Quotepushthatbolderenter your price of filament and it will tell you price per volume ( $30/kg PLA = 0.039000 $/cm3). That only works if the spool contained exactly tby ajayre - General
Is it really worth the time and effort to solve this problem these days? You can now get two layer, solder mask, silkscreen, vias, 6 mil tracks/spacing, 100% etest, 50mm x 50mm boards, 10 of them for $14 including shipping from China in two weeks... That's $1.40 per board. FYI I recommend Elecrow, but there is also Seeedstudio and iTeadStudio. I understand you are teaching, but the money spent oby ajayre - General
I have that first layer reliability with: - three point leveling system - heat bed with glass with kapton tape - cleaned with acetone before each print - PLA Andyby ajayre - General
My room is always around 55% humidity (typical double-glazed, centrally heated house in the UK). I use cheap Reprapper and expensive Faberdashery PLA. I always have a spool out and loaded into the printer, sometimes the same one for two or three months. I've never had a problem with moisture in the two years I've had my printer. It seems to me that spending a few minutes once in a while posting updates would have been nice for the people/companies that donated to this project...by ajayre - General
gdwinslow - did you see my questions to you above? In particular posting your toolchange gcode and firmware changes would be very helpful to everyone else to try it out. Thanks. Andyby ajayre - General
Quotepushthatbolder Kraken for sure. IMO a single hotend solution is far more elegant, as well as being cheaper, easier, lighter, etc. Andyby ajayre - General
Very interesting. Some questions: - what does your toolchange g-code look like? I want to understand how you solved the problem in Dr Bowyer's post about strings of filament left trailing behind on a retract - what settings are you using in Cura? For example how are you purging any left-over filament? Infill first on each layer? - do you have any pictures of sample prints? - did you uby ajayre - General
Any updates on what parts have been printed for the RSPCA? Andyby ajayre - General
I made family Christmas gifts the first year. The money I saved in doing so paid for the printer. People love customized gifts with their name on! Andyby ajayre - General
I've had a tricolor printer for a couple of years. I've hardly used it because it is a pain. The nozzles have to be perfectly aligned in the Z direction, but the slightest curling up of an overhang and the warm idling nozzles will collide whereas the hot nozzle can press on the overhang and manage it. So your printing has to be absolutely perfect in single color first. The X and Y offsets of thby ajayre - General
What about greasing the gears to reduce friction and therefore heat? Would white lithium grease react with PLA? Spray graphite? I am designing a gearbox right now and need to get some white lithium grease for my car anyway... Some discussion on this aspect here: Andyby ajayre - General
Pronsole does a lot more than just start prints. A LCD and knob will be very limited in functionality in comparison.by ajayre - General
Why not just use pronsole over SSH? That is what I do. If you run pronsole under 'screen' then you can log out of SSH and pronsole keeps running. Andyby ajayre - General
Perhaps you can write a g-code post-processor? Andyby ajayre - General
I've successfully used an M2 tap on PLA. So how about tapping a side hole and using a set/grub screw to hold the tool in? Andyby ajayre - General
In RRP Marlin the M92 command is committed to non-volatile memory with an M500 command: M92:_Set_axis_steps_per_unit M500:_stores_paramters_in_EEPROM Andyby ajayre - General
Quoteumdpru I like that solution, Nophead. A 40W cartridge is certainly overkill. My J-heads come to 235C in a a few minutes at most. I can wait 10 or 15 for them to heat up. the heatbed takes that long anyways. The OP has a printer with thee hotends. Slowing down the warm-up time by the figures you suggested is a functionality killer because it would take much longer to complete a modest sizedby ajayre - Safety & Best Practices
Quotecnc dick With the arrival of kits things are getting dangerous a lot of people are buying these and assembling them and not really understanding it's an experimental machine. It's not like a toaster or microwave that is UL or CE approved they are not really ready for the average person. I think that many people do understand this, but then their printer runs reliably for 100 hours and theyby ajayre - Safety & Best Practices
QuoteDeuxVis I would start delivering the kits with a smoke detector if I were a kit vendor... It's probably better not to wait for someone getting harmed ! If I were a kit vendor (or electronics vendor) I would make sure I had liability insurance. You can bet that after a major fire the house insurance company would come after you if they thought you might be to blame in some way. Andyby ajayre - Safety & Best Practices
While I have no problem with using commercial software I find the cloud-based subscription model really tedious. I want to be able to buy a copy and use offline, on a plane, etc...by ajayre - General
Also pressure should be put on kit makers to give safety a higher priority IMO.by ajayre - Administration, Announcements, Policy
QuoteGonetotx My plan is to... ...install redundant thermistors with software to cut off power if the temperature difference exceeds a nominal value ...install thermal fuses where fire hazards exist ...install thermal shielding if possible between the heater block and the plastic support above it I have the same printer as you.
