It's not hard. Actually most of these printers can be made if you can put together an ikea desk, and solder two wires together.

Trying to build a Mini Mendel, It will only use the Nema 14 motors. Do you think I could get away with using this stepper? Adrian sugjests 1400 g/cm and this one gets 1275 g/cm. The mini Mendel should be lighter in all 3 axises, so maybe I an get away with it.

Metric is much more expensive in the US. They usually only sell to large corporations, but when I brought my Makerbot in with me and let them play for an hour, suddenly I have the same discount as the military. score!

Who ever moderates it needs to be tough. It will degenerate into "I will offer $10 for a full printed set after 2 hours"

Yes and no. Everyone is trying to get the parts for $100. Most people are selling the parts for $300-$400 At miniumum wage on extrusion it would be more like $500 You would have to have 2 printers working full time side by side to break even. Now if you had... 15-20, yea you could make some money.

How many total Darwins ever existed? It takes hundreds to justify injection molding. The real barrier has always been the RP parts. If someone reallys wants one of these printers they either make a mcwire, knowing that it's a complicated and technically challenging project, purchase a Makerbot/BfB, or try to create something new. I have always wondered, because the small parts are such a challenge with mcwires, why you guys just don't print multiple parts combined into 1 stl. So instead of 1 part small part, you have 5 small parts, causing your head to move away for a while in order to let your parts not melt. Just curious.

Little hint, go over to makerbot and see if any have been sold in your are (they have a map). Try to find out who bought it and offer them some spare parts (they will need them) in trade for access to their printer. You can print all the parts over a weekend if you have someone print while you sleep.

CHEAP threded rod and fasteners for Mendel - 16 years ago

A place near my house can get me all the 8mm zinc rod, and all the fasteners in 100 count boxes for $94 including tax. Is that a good deal? I priced it, I could build 2 Mendels for $72 each for all the fasteners and rod. I still have to find the smooth rod though.

Mendel is actually cheaper to build than a Darwin, but only by a few dollars. Darwin was also more mechanicly compliated and had verious issues that mendel doesn't have.

That's the problem, I don't have anything besides blender, and now the Micro mendel has showed up and I want to use it's parts instead of the FrankenMendel I have been working on.... Honestly I am so tempted to just work on finished up the Micro Mendel as it stands.

Won't there be issues with motor heat on your design? Seems that a 3 hour print stepping at 80 rpm on a NEMA 17 stepper motor is a little extreme. I know my makerbot Z axis gets pretty warm with it's workload, which is NOTHING like this.

22mm width film on a 30 meter roll for $5 dollars. That's over 6 meter^2 of kapton for 5 bucks. You will not beat that price.

I would love to hear the story of why he is selling a 80% complete set, and not either 1 at a time, or waiting a week and printing a full set. I do fear that set going for less that $300 though. If you add up the minutes from the Mendel RP parts more information sheet you get 60 hours for the print time (That does not count down time, misprint, or raft). That's $435 at minimum wage in the US,

This forum has the ABSOLUTE worst software I have ever seen for a forum. -No Avatars -No imbeded photos -No imbeded video -No new posts link -No new thread link -No "ranking" of posters I would love it if we went to a software package like nasaspaceflight.com, but that's just me. As far as community and content, I would steal some points from makerbot. -RepRap needs a "front man"

I went over the cost breakdown here. Basically for $20 dollars Makerbot saves you 10 hours worth of soldering.

Check out blendeded Mendel on thingiverse. You can import all the parts into one scene, then duplicate them. The issue with doing it this way is all the parts are still in flux. Some change from time to time. Best way is to just import all 48 into 1 scene, the sort them out.

Sure, jump on a plane, fly to NC, spend 80 hours, replace your own filiment, and help out with the hardware costs a little on the machine (build a nozzel or something along those lines), and you have a deal. Share means you spend the time, and I SHARE the printer. I would be more than happy to print you parts for $15 an hour plus shipping though.

$100 for 80+ hours worth of printing. JUST the laser cut parts for a makerbot goes for +$200 plus, Lasercut parts for a Ponoko Darwin are $300 plus. And these can be cut in about 1 hour each. Work for full price, or free, but NEVER CHEAP.
