Yup, as Zach says, the supply voltage is 12V. 12V is safe. You can touch the power capacitor leads directly (while switched off or even while running) and you won't feel anything. Strictly speaking, there are a couple of places where higher voltages can occur, which is in the serial comms and back-EMF from the motors. The comms signals are very low power and can't cause a shock. The back-EMFby sai - General

I settled on using twin pole screw connectors that I can plug into my board and solder tight. They're nice in that I can salvage them when I dump the board. At $0.50 they're darned expensive, though. Indeed, the aggregate cost of them is the most expensive part of of my electronicby sai - Developers
I'm thinking of making a slight shift of focus on the comms and work on completing the Java infrastructure. Any objections or plans by anybody else to do anything there? _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Developers@reprap.orgby sai - Developers
I hate those connectors with a vengeance. They are such a pain to remove. However, as you say, they are good for high current, keyed, etc. So they're probably not a bad idea... That was a bit of a puzzle. I had no idea it was offline for *that* long. Ooops. Anyway, I think it was a lockfile gone bad. Now I know how that works for the future, hopefully it won't happen again. There shouldn't be any lost messages, just a little delayed. Apologies... _______________________________________________ Developers mailing list Developby sai - Developers

I think if anything the universal board is already too large. 19"^2 would be vast. Even 9"^2 for that is pretty big.by sai - General
Half-stepping is currently implemented. Adding microstepping has been discussed, however since most of the experimental designs have used threaded rod, which gives a very high gear ratio, it is far more accurate than is needed already. Even for the direct belt drive, it would still provide the initial goal of 0.1mm without microstepping. So the extra complexity just hasn't been justified yet.by sai - General
This forum system lets you restrict posting on any particular forum to selected groups of users, should you want to do that. It's very versatile in fact. The most annoying thing about it seems to be the lack of a decent wysiwyg editor. When I was trying to choose the right forum system, one of the features listed was a wysiwyg addon module, but it is nowhere to be found now. Everything else sby sai - General

hmm... it kinda makes you wonder what the benefit of the blogs is The forums have rss too, just like the blogs... The nice thing about the forums is that the replies are first class citizens, just like the original postings. Anyway, just a ponderation... Yes, you can insert references to images on an external site like this: And link to your original flickr page The way you do it is with bbcode. For example, the above was written as [img]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/145/402625005_ce4008d4ab.jpg?v=0[/img]by sai - General
You can actually control this behaviour yourself. If you go to the Control Center (from the main forums list) and go to the "Forum Settings", you can override the settings so that all of the forums appear the way you prefer. The options to change are two Thread Override options.by sai - General

Yes, it was running very slow. Another process that had quite loose resource constraints was starting to run away and consume all available memory and swap space which was slowing things down. It isn't normally that slow. Let me know if it's still slow for you. It's fairly zippy for me right now.by sai - General
I have added a module that allows you to insert images inline in your forum postings now. Something like this: You can place them wherever you like. Just attach a file as normal and click the "Place inline" button wherever you want it to appear. For large images, it scales it down and provides a swanky zoom thing. The zoom requires flash. If that turns out to be a problem, we can switch iby sai - General

By the way, when I say coming up with a slogan, that doesn't mean we'd want to replace the current slogan "Wealth without money...". Feel like helping to develop a programmer module for the RepRap? It's a small and simple project that would be a good introduction to the architecture.
