A friend of mine has made a clay sculpture of her dog and would love a 3D printed version, so the plan wold be to scan this and print it.

Hi All,
I have an object I would like 3D scanned so I can subsequently print copies. Can anyone recommend any UK companies / organisations which can do this please.

I recently had some issues with Thermal Runaway (Thread) which I thought had gone away.....
Friday evening I was printing some items when I realised the printer had stopped, when I checked it was displating "THERMAL RUNAWAY" again! I restarted the printer, cleaned the bed and attempted to restart the print via Octoprint and it hung at the bed heating phase. Trying to set the bed temperature v

All,
An update. I had a couple of cheapy RAMPS boards but had the same issues when I tried them, also when I tried swapping hot end channel the problem still persisted.Trying the firmware changes recommended by @stephenrc seemed to work, to start with but all it really did was make the problem happen less frequently. I tried my spare extruder / hot end and the problem went away but I had anot

OK, will try another RAMPS board. The temperature graph in OctoPrint does not show any sort of wild swing in termperature.

Hi All,
Recently the RAMPS board on my PrusaI3 developed an issue with the heated bed not working. This later developed into the USB comms not working either, which was a problem as I use OctoPI. So I finally bit the bullet and got a new RAMPS board and Arduino Mega. I have chosen to use the current Marlin as I did not have a copy of the Marlin which came with the printer, I suppose I could h

According to the back of the board it is a genuine mega. I have tried both a cheap Chinese clone and another genuine mega and both connect to the PC, so I am assuming drivers for both chip sets are present on my PC, also the thing was working until I swapped the RAMPS board. Something I did I presume just not sure what!
One thing I forgot to mention was that the board powers via the USB just

Hi all,
I had a problem with my Prusa I3 heated bed having stopped working. I had a spare RAMPS board and have fitted this and the printer is now working. BUT I normally use OctoPrint on a Pi to control my printer but it refuses to connect to the printer. I have tried plugging the Mega / RAMPS into my PC using a USB cable and using the serial monitor in the Arduino IDE but I got no response.

Hi all,
The heated bed on my 3D printer (Prusa i3) as stopped working over the weekend. I have done some checking with both the heated bed on the printer and a spare, brand new, heated bed and get the same issue. The resistance of each heated bed of them was around an ohm.
When the heated bed is disconnected and I select preheat, LED (LED2) was lit. When I reconnect the heated bed and select

Wow, quick reply! I was thinking of using it for the Z axis so movements would be small and not too rapid.
More food for thought so thanks for that.
Cheers

Just working on the design for my new printer and was wondering if the Duet controller could control an external stepper controller such as this one:
Stepper Controller
My reason behind this is so I can use a more powerful stepper motor for the Z Axis.
Just thinking at the moment.

Might not help but . . . I had this problem with a smart LCD controller on a RAMPS board. It turned out to be the motherboard setting in Marlin, it was set to 33 (which seemed to be correct), I changed it to: MOTHERBOARD BOARD_RAMPS_13_EFB and it all worked fine.
As I said don't know if this has any relevance.

PS I appreciate you are using a RAMBO board, it was just that setting it to the #

One other quick thought, how do I stand with 24V on the duet? as that is what I am planning to use on the new printer.
Cheers

Thanks DC42,
I am planning on using this controller on a Cartesian printer but given what you say I might end up buying two boards and replace the one in my delta as well. Expensive hobby this 3d printing lark

Well, firstly thanks for all the input.
I was unaware of the RADDS approach so that is something more to consider.
Currently both my printers use RAMPS, the Prusa works well but the Deltla struggles a bit to be honest although I am currently using the large LCD which, I gather, doesn't help. I have a 20 by 4 display but need to print a mounting bracket for it first.
I have RasPi's on both bu

Hi all,
I currently have a Prusa i3 I bought ready built and have built my own 3DR.
I am planning building a new Cartesian printer using a 300mm square, 24V bed, lead screws for the Z axis, 20x20 extrusion for the frame and am considering what electronics to use.
I want to go 32bit and would ideally like a display and web based interface. So far I have thought about Smoothieboard and Duet and

Hi all,
Got a hobbyking Fabrikator which is having an extruder issue. When trying to extrude it judders and only extrudes a bit. It's almost as if the motor doesn't have sufficient torque. The extruder is direct drive, with a mega and ramps 1.4. The motor drivers are all set to approximately 1.4 volts.
Any thoughts anyone?

Hi,
I bought a RAMPS / Mega / Driver boards combo from Amazon with no trouble. Unfortunately I blew the RAMPS up though my own folly (repaired now) and bought one of these which is now running my Delta with no issues. Nice quality board

Hi all,
I have finally finished my RichRap 3DR and started to get it dialled in. But I am noticing that while the quality is OK, the bottom layers are much lower quality. Attached are two picture of the last print, one of the top and pne of the bottom. They are sliced with Cura with 75% infill, 0.8mm top & bottom thickness and 105% flow rate, 80 degrees C Bed temperature and 225 degrees h

Just done a comparison with the prices I was paying at RS:
T-Nuts
RS - £4.96 / 10 £0.496 each
Motedis - £16.02 / 100 £0.16 each
Corner brackets
RS - £2.71 / 1 £2.71 each
Motedis - £6.20 / 1 £0.62 each
Even with postage it's quite a saving.

I have just received my order from Motedis All cut to length perfectly and far cheaper than RS.
I am based in the UK and it took about 10 days to arrive.

cdru: checked the resistance, both with the RAMPS board connected and disconnected, but with the polyfuse still in place and I get 0.6 ohms. Do you know the spec of the part or a manufacturers part number as I cannot seem to find a BOM which tells me and I will get some and replace it anyway. It would be nice to have a spare board.
