I've been reworking a Techzone Huxley I built 6-7 years ago, and I've decided to enlarge the frame to accommodate an 8" x 8" print bed. I bought new 6mm 303 Stainless threaded and smooth rods to replace the old ones. However, it didn't occur to me until after I'd received them to check the rod diameters of larger printers like the Mendel, which are apparently 8mm. My initial thought was to retby ajsmcs - General
Good Morning I just bought a proper power supply for Huxley, and I need a good quality inlet power switch/socket. A fuse would be preferable, and an LED indicator would be nice. There's a big selection on Amazon, but all of them have reviews saying they're prone to failing/melting/starting fires, so no me gusta. Any recommendations? Thanks!by ajsmcs - Reprappers
Those look pretty promising. Amazon has 12V and 24V 350W variants for ~$55 each, which is more than I was hoping to spend, but still within the realm of "reasonable." I guess I'm going to switch over to 24V cartridge for my E3D. It came with the 12V and blue-colored/30W cartridge. Question: Do I stick with the 30W for going 24V, or do I go up to 40W? EDIT: So looking at pictures on their sitby ajsmcs - Reprappers
Good morning! I'm in the middle of overhauling my old Huxley. The current bed is some sort of wood fiberboard covered in painters tape, which is annoying to use and far from ideal. I'm looking for a good reusable bed surface replacement for PLA. Any recommendations? Thanks!by ajsmcs - Reprappers
I thought I read somewhere that - despite being rated for 24V - some parts on the board don't actually like being run at that voltage. I guess that's not the case? I don't actually have a heated bed. (I don't even have a glass bed, for that matter) And I literally just bought the 12V E3D-V6, so I'm not really looking to swap it out. Any specific "higher quality" power supplies you could recby ajsmcs - Reprappers
Good Afternoon! I'm midway through a rebuild of a Techzone Huxley I started 6-7 years ago. I got partway through the cal process when different parts - including the board - started failing, I got tired of dealing with their customer service, and life got in the way, so I shelved it up until 2014, when I replaced I bought a RAMBo 1.1B to replace the monotronics, only to shelve it again (too busby ajsmcs - Reprappers
Problem solved. I Dremeled out the slot for the smooth bar on the bottom bracket - on the side facing the print carriage - and shimmed the other side with a piece of plastic. Its a really inelegant way of fixing the problem - I'd have preferred a non-destructive, reversible method of adjustable - but hey, it worked. I can't really complain. Next step is to fab aluminum brackets for the new meby ajsmcs - Huxley
Good morning! I own a Techzone Huxley that I bought way back in ~2010, back when the only options for complete 3D printer kits were it or the original wood-framed Makerbot. I realized pretty quickly that its a complete piece of crap. As soon as I would accomplish one thing, another thing would break, and Techzone had some of the worst customer service I'd ever seen. After a few months of thisby ajsmcs - Huxley
Does it print well? I'm in the same boat you were in; I recently dusted off a Techzone Huxley I bought 4 years ago as a kit. After a year of fiddling with it and dealing with horrendous customer service, (I had to wait 3-4 months for the upgraded aluminum extruder I ordered from them) the board quit working and I gave up. Now I'd like to try to resurrect it. What parts did you end up replby ajsmcs - Huxley
Hello, I'm looking to replace the control board on a Techzone Huxley I built 4 years ago, which has been dead and collecting dust for the past 3. After doing some research, the Melzi seems like a pretty good option. I'm a professional ME, and although I have a lot of electronics experience, sometimes I just want the darn thing to work without becoming a project in and of itself. Looking throuby ajsmcs - Reprappers
Thanks! Thats good to know. I agree with your suggestion. If I can get the first one to work, a second would definitely be necessary. ;-)by ajsmcs - Reprappers
I'm a 3rd Engineering student, and am considering attempting to build a Mendel. However, its a bit much for my budget. I noticed that there are "laser cut Mendel" parts for sale on eBay, at a much cheaper price than the ABS parts. Would it be possible (and feasible) to build a lasercut Mendel, then print out the ABS parts (the standard ones on the website) to directly replace the wooden parts witby ajsmcs - Reprappers
