Dear All, I would really appreciate some input on print bed design: I am currently building a Prusa for students to use and would like to improve the mechanics of the bed Currently the bed moves on draw sliders (see pic) which work really well, but the part I'm not happy with is the plate and springs underneath. The bed is difficult to level well I had used a fixed bed previously but havinby gnomadix - Reprappers
OK thanks some of that got a bit silly (quite rightly) but I do like the Consumer level and Prosumer level in the title definitely more shi-shi 3d deposition group is glamorous too I'll suggest those at the next meeting Thanks Again Simonby gnomadix - General
Dear All, I'm a tech in a art school and my role involves CAD and I have a Prusa a half built MendelMax and an UP! printer and I am currently demonstrating RepRap to the students I have just come from a meeting discussing the implementation of 3D printers (Reprap, Makerbot, UP! etc ) around the college include The group hosting (the college fablab)the meeting wanted to call it 'low cost 3by gnomadix - General
This is the reply from the UP! forum 'Should be made of garolite. Typical electronics supply store should carry it (e.g. Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics). You can also buy online from Mouser, Newark, Digi-key, or McMaster-Carr' Thank you all for your repliesby gnomadix - Reprappers
Dear All thanks for your replies I have uploaded a photo of the board used by the UP! It sounds like the perfboard used by the UP! is a PCB material which should be flame-retardent Although this stuff might need to be extra heat proofed given that its constantly being heated I will keep looking and I'll ask on the UP! forum Thanks Again Simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Dear All I have some experience of building Repraps (Prusa and Mendelmax) though I am still a quite inexperienced This week I finally was allowed to take an UP! Printer out of its box (work bought it) and I was under some pressure to demonstrate it working straight out of the box- which it did Unlike any of my previous experiences including Makerbot was the Print stayed firmly in position anby gnomadix - Reprappers
Thank you for all your replies: A2 I have emailed Dr Pearce but no reply yet uGen thanks for your clear and detailed reply, that really helped me argue the case for Reprap and FFF to be rolled in to departments at a wider level If anyone else has experience in this area of university RP it would really help right now All the best Simonby gnomadix - General
Dear All I work as an IT technician at an art school and have been pushing for the use of Reprap and FFF machines in the school Eventually the college have given some small recognition and resources for it and I having a meeting tomorrow to discuss the wider plans. It would be extremely helpful if there are other Technicians /RP people working in labs who could give me any general ideas of thby gnomadix - General
Dear all, I've just replaced my printed pulleys on my Prusa to T2.5 belts and pulleys: do I need to edit the firmware? If so which line would need changing? Many Thanks Simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Hi there It did .... I showed the post to our health and safety Guy and he said he was happy for us to start The proposal so that's great!!! I now have to write up a 'COSH ' list For PLA and ABS and Health and Safety working practise on a Prusa Does (Chris?) anyone know where I could acces This info Thank you guysby gnomadix - Reprappers
Hi Logrod have had any luck? did you try clipping the motor leads and changing to a smaller size terminal block, I didn't solder just twisted and put heat shrink on the cut cablesby gnomadix - Reprappers
Hi Nicapizza, have you tried testing just one motor and one stepper driver at a time and no heater/bed/endstops plugged in? What power supply are you using ? Best Simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Thanks for the reply Polygonhell, Yesterday I tried connecting the 2 Z motors unjoined to the 2 connectors on Z, which didn't Work as the motors spun unevenly or only one spun Then I clipped the wires of the motors down considerably and reconnected in parallel to a different terminal block (I paired the colours ) For the first time Z homed correctly and moved in both + and - , but I don't reallby gnomadix - Reprappers
Dear All, I have had problems with Z homing: Z home causes the motor to only move upwards a small amount in the + direction but will intermittently home sometimes Can I run the Z motors unjoined to the board using extra Z-motor header on the Sanguinolu? I didn't have Z problems using RAMPS but the same problem on both (pre-asssembled, tested) Sanguinolu boards which I prefer to use on this Pby gnomadix - Reprappers
Thanks again Cris For such a thorough and well thought out reply: really useful and will help things to get up and running much faster I will re-post when I get some progress Thanks again Simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Thanks Criswilson10 thats really useful and I can talk to my H&S guy about the vents I've been asked to look at it from the worst case scenario -preventing electric shocks, burns etc in event of water leaks wet floors etc Does your lab allow student direct access to the equipment or are staff the only operators? best wishes simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Thanks for the reply Viktor thats good to knowby gnomadix - Reprappers
Dear All, I work at an art college, which miraculously granted the space and a budget a 'RepRap' area. Triggered by my interest and is set up as an alternative to traditional fabrication areas To get the go ahead I have to have a proposal all aspects of health and safety covered The area is in a windowless basement (surprise!) room but may have access to vents and we would put in all safeby gnomadix - Reprappers
Dear all, this very impressive is this something that could be turned into Reprap technology? Best Simonby gnomadix - General

Dear All, I am having problems finding a usable Sprinter file to upload to my RAMPS 1.3 board via a Mega 2560 as I just get error messages: it could be my computer MaCbook Air /10.8 or my Dell laptop on XP or version of Arduino (v1.01) I have been using a Sanguino with a pre loaded Marlin file but I'm trying to test problems with Z home on another board I don't have SD card or LED just XYZ aby gnomadix - RAMPS Electronics

Hi Guys, not sure where to ask this question I need to replace my X-axis with printed bushings for a Prusa to one using LM8UU bearing I did look in the for sale part it seemed to be mostly whole kits and not many UK people Would anyone know where I might be able to buy /print me the X axis Many Thanks Simonby gnomadix - General

Thanks for your reply Anthrochick I could try double sided masking tape: what bed temp can it cope with? as for consumption/decoration at the moment I'm happy with any thing (apart form print that get knocked off while printing) getting double sided kapton or blue tape in the uk might take a while Best Simonby gnomadix - Reprappers
Hi All, I've bought some 3M blue painters tape get my prints to stick on my heated bed as the extruder just knocks them off when I print (using sugar water) Its not double sided so I was wondering the best way to put it and if anyone has any useful hints or photographs of how they do their taping I have bought acetone, but I don't want to use it in the house unless it a last option and I haveby gnomadix - Reprappers
Hi All, what would be the best procedure to test the hotend which I bought pre-assembled I don't have a heated bed yet and have a small sample of ABS (about 30cm) to try it out How long do I leave it to heat up before I send a print? or does that happen anyway do I use Skeinforge to set the temp or do I do this in Pronterface? I could use some advice or hints at this stage though I 'm probablyby gnomadix - Plastic Extruder Working Group
