0.4A Stepper motor vs 1A stepper motor using A4988 drivers? Motor Stalling problem - 9 years ago

I'm having a problem with my extruder stepper motor stalling for retraction speeds over 10mm/s. I still have retraction problems so would like to increase this if possible. I don't have problems with stalling on my 0.4A X,Y,Z stepper motors. I'm using a Greg's Wade extruder for Prusa i3 with a Nema 17 Bipolar 40Ncm 12V 0.4A Stepper Motor. My extruder Pololu A4988 stepper driver is tuned to .16V

So, I tried it and all was well until I connected the 3rd stepper driver and when I plugged in my laptop it turned off immediately, and after this, the laptop could not connect to RAMPS on pronterface. I think I can assume that this driver could have caused at least some of my issues... Anyway, everything is working now for the first time with no laptop issues after replacing the stepper drive

I can confirm that the only thing the laptop was connected to was the arduino/RAMPS setup. I've just got a new Arduino ATMega2560 and tested it with USB and measured 5.04V on the 5V output. It was recognized under COMS in device manager. Then tested the Arduino connected to RAMPS (nothing else connected) with USB only and again measured 5.04V. (Also recognized in Device manager) Then Arduino

Laptop turns off if its plugged into mains and when battery powered. That connection is fine. Could it be a faulty power supply/mains cable? How can I check the PSU with my multimeter? I don't want to fry another arduino board.

Just finished the assembly of my Prusa i3 and started dealing with the electronics. I have Sintron clones of RAMPs 1.4 and Arduino ATmega2560 and a 30A 12V power supply. Addressable inputs/pins on RUMBA board - 11 years ago

Hi, I want to use the digitalRead() function to read pins of which I'm sending HIGH/LOW signals to. I want to know which numbers the 18 pins on the right hand side of the board are? I've attached an image of the RUMBA board that I'm using. I'm using Marlin firmware. Do I need to re-assign/re-name pins in pins.h or define new ones? Many thanks

Best stand alone RepRap extruder? - 11 years ago

Hi, I'm doing a project at the moment adding 3D printing capabilities to a vertical axis CNC mini-milling machine. I intend to use a RepRap extruder and would like advise on the best stand alone design (stepper motor and extruder next to the hot end without PTFE tube between them) at this moment in time. Would the Wades geared extruder be a safe bet? And for buying the kit in the UK, ebay?
