Hi all I would be really grateful if anyone could suggest ways I could support the fabfabbers.com site I released around a month ago now. A few of the more obvious ones: 1) Plain old advertising (Google Ads etc) 2) Selling models for a commision (already done - places like Shapeways of course having a huge advantage) 3) Some kind of kickstarter campaign, perhaps the goal of which would be to oby marcosscriven - General

Does anyone reckon these lightguides here would actually work when printed in resin? http://www.shapeways.com/model/486757/raspberry-pi-case-led-lightguides-1-0.html?li=productBox-search I asked a question about doing exactly this in clear PLA on my Mendel90 a while back, but apparently the bubbles would prevent it working.by marcosscriven - General
May I humbly ask if you might try out my site Jasper? The URL is http://www.fabfabbers.com/ You might also find this interesting http://www.fabfabbers.com/openscad/ At the moment you can only add models from a GitHub repo - but I'm right now in the process of adding the ability to add models directly. Do let me know you thoughts.by marcosscriven - General
Just wondering if anyone had done this, and whether the reduced backlash made a real difference in print quality? Also, if so, is there an STL file I could download?by marcosscriven - Mendel90
Hi Gerard May I ask for what reason? I've been using a glass bed and found it to be excellent both in terms of first-layer adhesion, and its lack of flexion. Marcosby marcosscriven - Mendel90
Hi RBisping Would love to see any photos/vids you have of the heads attached? I'd really like to get dual-head printing going on my Mendel90, chiefly for a soluble support material, rather than a second colour. Marcosby marcosscriven - Mendel90
Hi Gerard Wow - thanks for all the suggestions. Re Syntax higlighting, I've found someone has already done this on GitHub: . I'll try plugging that in. Regarding STL repair, I think that's definitely worthwhile.by marcosscriven - General
Hi all Just wanted to mention I've added Dropbox integration to http://www.fabfabbers.com/openscad/ Now if you generate an STL file, you can send it to Dropbox just by clicking the Dropbox icon. If anyone has any comments/suggestions for other features would be glad to hear them.by marcosscriven - General
It's a vastly rewarding project building one of these. I too ended up finishing at stupid o'clock, so refrained from even turning it on until the morning http://marcos.scriven.org/2012/12/building-mendel90.htmlby marcosscriven - Mendel90
As per topic, wondering if anyone's built a dual-head attachment for the Mendel90? I'd quite like to use the second head more for depositing some kind of support material (I've heard PVA glue works)by marcosscriven - Mendel90
Hi Not sure if anyone here's tried this before: http://www.fabfabbers.com/openscad/ I've now implemented an image-based CSG algorithm (similar in function to OpenCSG, but written from scratch), in WebGL. It was really quite a challenge as all current implementation of this are in desktop OpenGL and rely on things which aren't in WebGL spec, such as depth textures. I'm thrilled to say it actualby marcosscriven - General
I'll abandon that little project then! Thanks for the adviceby marcosscriven - General
Interesting stuff (nice rock music in the background on the video!) Would really love to see tri-colour results! Do you know if it's possible with multiple colours to completely (or at least mostly) 'flush' one colour (say on the corner of the bed), should you want particular sections to be only one colour, rather than a funky gradient?by marcosscriven - General
I have some cast iron pans with wooden handles - which have worn away at the ends. I'd like to be able to print some new ones with my Mendel90 (with Mk V B head), but obviously PLA and ABS aren't going to be heat resistant enough. I've heard of polycarbonate and Nylon printing, but I'm unsure exactly what I need to do it? Is an all-metal hot end essential? I also get conflicting reports aboutby marcosscriven - General
Nice write up.I got the same kit as you a few months ago, and really pleased with the results.by marcosscriven - Mendel90
Hi I've just updated http://www.fabfabbers.com/openscad/ It now uses csg.js to do the simple boolean CSG ops (union, difference, intersection), but still uses the OpenSCAD parsing and primitive mesh generation. This is an awful lot faster, and makes it useable for iterative designing, as well as just one-off STL generation. A few things to note: 1) I still recommend Firefox 23 (nightly buildby marcosscriven - General
The site is coded in Python/Django, and hosted on Google App Engine. I'd not thought it particularly worthy of open source, as there wasn't much to see IMO. Happy to give you any details - perhaps a blog post? If you mean the OpenSCAD stuff, that's another matter - I had to hack about quite a bit, and I'm working to get the changes I made in a fit state to put back into OpenSCAD repo. Hi Just released a couple of little improvements to OpenSCAD in the browser : - For models which have been uploaded to the site from GitHub, any SCAD files you open from the model page (with the little 'pencil' icon), will now correctly download any 'import' or 'use' files. As an example, I was able to build scad/atx_psu_brackets.scad on (see attached) - I also added a progress bar, which sby marcosscriven - General
Hi I just sent the below update to people who've signed up to the site, but thought it might be of interest to people who might be interested in doing so: 1) As anyone can add any public repo to the site (even if it's not theirs), I've made it so that you can only actually edit the model if we've linked your FabFabbers username with your GitHub user name. There are various levels of access youby marcosscriven - General
Hi Gary Yes I got an email from the server about that error and just emailed you about it. Basically, it got to about 400 of the 700 or so files, and then hit a Google App Engine limit of 60 seconds for a query. I'm going to change this to be asynchronous - so basically when you add a repo it will submit straight away, and then it will just download independently of the of the request thread. I can definitely recommend the Mendel(0 by Nophead:by marcosscriven - General
Hi ThanhTran Thanks for trying the site - I assume you mean this SCAD ? Re the progress indication - that's definitely something I need to add, so thanks for the suggestion. If so, on Firefox 23 it runs in just 166 seconds, nearly14 times faster (see attached) Marcosby marcosscriven - General
Hi I've made a couple of small changes: 1) I've moved the URL for OpenSCAD to - it didn't seem to make sense being under the /models/openscad url. I've not setup a redirect as it's not as if many will miss it right now. 2) I've made it so you can reload generated models. I've drop any existing generated files (I won't be so cavalier with data generally, but as people are just testing it outby marcosscriven - General
