Solved, brnrd, your a gem thank you. Didn't spot that setting on the z for limit and it was turned off. Once again thanks. Thanks Dale, the machine is quite free on the z-axis. cheers robby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Hi me again, I am having an issue with height and have discovered that when printing there is a issue with power to the z motor every other z adjustment, I have tried various firmwares and they all seem to have the same issue. I have swapped around drivers changed pmeter untill my power supply shuts down with under current protection but nothing resolves it. My x y and e drivers are all at aboutby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
I think a messed up print is better than a messed up printer, when cgode generates/sends z-250 for homing operations it breaks the printer in so many ways due to the gearing being so high, I have already had to replace my bed, xstage and y stage bars due to them being buckled. Detecting endstops and shielding of the cables has to be a better way.by hexitex - Firmware - mainstream and related support
both of those versions work, tesla seems to have made changes to his own configuration and made some variable name changes, nothing to worry about. You can change the pin assignments around to suit your own needs, the fan can be on pins 8 through to 10 but for standards sake i suggest you setup your pins so that it looks like this #define FAN_PIN 9 #define HEATER_0_PIN 10 #defiby hexitex - Firmware - mainstream and related support
couple of pics from my first working prints, the large gear had an extruder issue which is fixed now. The first print was the pulley gear, not perfect but to me it was amazing, the whistle is the latest print and works very well.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Cefiar, good information thanks - it is possible that my printers location will allow cold air when not in use - but this is oil comming from the ABS, it's not water. Kapton tape came from mendelparts.com, i did have some other stuff from reprapkit.com that was kOpton tape so i replaced it with the real stuff, same results -oil under the prints - i think it's the abs to be honest, nice stuff if iby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Great stuff, me too! Finally getting excellent quality prints with ABS (no strings either) and sometimes making it to the end of print. It's now failing due to bed adhesion My heated bed is getting to 82C running direct off the RAMPS board, using four 2.2ohms resistors arranged to make a total resistance of 2.2 giving me 65 watts and drawing 5.4 Amps (this is the limit of RAMPS from my testing)by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
It's true, optical endstops will be less reliable than mechanical ones, opto ones maybe a little bit more sensitive but will need to be enclosed for the best part to stop dust, stray light, etc. Ultimachine supply good mechanical ones in their kit, I used a belt splitter part from a standard mendel platic set to mount on my z-stage bar, two M3 bolts and nuts with washers provide a decent mountingby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
how about setting up.... now this is radical.... a new Site!. Sometimes when you find something broken it is better to start again IMHO. There is lots of good content but it is out of control and some of it out of date. Building my machine i was always spending far too much time trying to locate information, read a page, only to find halfway through that i should look at a later design or somethby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
that's a better idea, but i'm not taking it apart again - so endstop as a stopgap.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
I think an extra heavyweight NC mechanical endstop on the min zstage hooked in to one of the power lines from the power suppy will do the trick but it's more wires and more mess. I would just like to know why endstops are ignored unless it's a G28?by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
It's nice to see that this thread has created some activity for the issues us new kids are having, but as you can see from zzarbi's problems things are so hard. So a big thank you to you guys - seriously However, I am utterly exhausted with this - I have had to virtually rebuild the printer due to firmware ignoring endstop activation, seems that only G28 is catered for - all other homing operatiby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Cool, then show me a working windows toolchain if it is that simple. It 100% isn't. I can adjust pin assignments till the cows come home but it will not help me in actually completing a print. to put it simply the socket code is fcuked.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
thanks for the links Sublime, cheap at double the price if they don't catch fire. Wade, checked that on initial build, I did read the data sheet on purchase. I have checked again and the crimps are 100% solid with plenty of copper in contact. Anyhow, I would not have thought that a dodgy connection would be so drastic.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Sorry, Trolling? I don't see where that happened in my posts - ah you mean reporting my problems and the fact that the hardware almost burnt my fking house down! Yes my solved comment was a little bit too hasty - when i said solved i meant that i finally figured out to uncomment the chksum and linenums in the tesla version of the firmware so the machine didn't try and distroy itself with movesby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
I agree, it is a driver issue, so what other drivers does R.A.M.P.S support? I already know the answer, just making a point>< Bigger question is are we asking too much of those small drivers, a typical CNC machine has much larger electronic hardware. I am willing to accept that this could be a one off, maybe a bit of solder was hanging on the board and the movement of the machine released iby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Pictures speak louder than words. I have no idea why this happen whilst in mid print, it was only being driven at about 25% Nothing external was in play. Had I not been there this could have resulted in a big fire which could have resulted in death, so be warned.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Sublime Ok I get it you don't like windows and you love Linux - each to their own. BTW I have never had a virus, only a novice on any system including linux will get a virus. And so what if i want to complain to the ether (yes that dead space where the designers and makers of the hardware don't bother the read anything on this forum) are you telling me things actually work with the RAMPS setup onby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
QuoteWhat is SkinheadForge 40? It just my bit of sillyness - Skeinforge version 40 - it creates gcode files from stl filesby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Dale, I think we all knew that these things are not plug and play, but the fact remains that RAMPS has the least number of users and hence the least working software - the maker/designer of the hardware should address this - it's not right to sell this stuff if there is no up to date software that supports the features of the board. Yeah, I can get a working version if i don't want fan & heatby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
There is something fundamentally wrong with the reprap project full stop, too many hardware and software permutations have broken it. The whole thing is under attack from people making money without regard for whether it works or not, RAMPS being a classic case. There are also a lot of secret keepers - I don't understand how some people have outstanding prints (like Nophead who recommended RAMPSby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
@makeme I am not sure that giving the devs of the firmware a hard time is a good idea. They do this out of the goodness of their hearts and should not be expected to do it on cmd. Asking with a nice message is a far better way - hell you can even add a <3 but i hear you - its hard work getting a mendel working as described - my wife is pissed off with my lack of presence finding me with arseby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Another thing spotted, and i should have checked this, is that repsnapper home buttons seem to send cmds that ignore the endstop detected, it could have been I have the end stops working all along, when sending G28 (home all) it works just fine. Still not sure how to confirm max end stops are working as repsnapper seems to send bash into the sides cmds, although i would have thought it was the joby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Solved! Seems that turning chksum in the config file fixed the wild things, must be getting corrupt packets thanks for all the helpby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
at last, almost there, min endstops working at last (max not)- there was a new tesla firmware which seems to be better. still a funny problem with the gcode being sent though take a look at this and let me know if it looks right These are my setting to work with SF40, the e_steps is approx //Calibration variables float x_steps_per_unit = 80.376; float y_steps_per_unit = 80.376; float z_steps_peby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Ultimachine -do you think there is a board problem? I bought two so could try the other oneby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Cefiar, I have tried inverting in the firmware to no avail, if I swap the cables around Ramps disconnects from the PC when the switch is triggered?. I am seriously wondering is if anybody has a working Mendel with Ramps, mechanical endstops and Heated bed? I didn't think it would be this hard to get the thing going. Thanks Robby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Ok, I can print with JonnyR tonokip firmware and then I found Tesla's version which is more complete with support for heated bed and a few other codes. Running skinheadForge 40 with the dimension plugin active Jonny's firmware works like a treat, but that doesn't have enough for me so I switched to Tesla's firmware with the same changes in the config.h file to support new maths in SF 40 i.e extruby hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
that should be 115200, but it does depend on what firmware you are using? also make sure you have the com port correct. the ardunio software can confirm this for you as it searches for the correct port.by hexitex - RAMPS Electronics
Whist waiting for new heated bed solution to my own bodged one I was thinking that something must be able to grab ABS well enough to start a print, well canvas paper for inkjet printing works well but does go out of shape with continued printing on the same spot. I stuck this down with photomount on my bed, so when I removed it , there was a very grainy feel to the bed so I printed on that and itby hexitex - General Mendel Topics
