i forgot, the x carriage from the sturdy design seems designed for wade extruder, 50mm are the screw holes apart. is that right? thanks, michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
hi all, i have started building a larger sized mendel90 sturdy. printbed is 300 x 360mm, heated with 3 foil heaters. the x axis is expanded to 300mm and the y axis to 360mm. the glas reaches 8cm on each side over the dibond carrier in y direction. therefore the smooth rods just get 16cm longer on the y axis. i never printed parts for a machine so far. how much infill do you do? are there othervon neptunier - Mendel90
here is a motordriver which you can use to run the nema23 instead of the polulu driver. it costs little more than 20€. if you only want to print pla i guess the warping problem is reduced? did anybody actually made a bigger mendel90 and would share his stl files? thanks, michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
thanks nophead for your excellent support. the next days i will return the belt. michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
nophead, yesterday i got the new belts and put them in. now they seem to work perfectly. i also strenghened the dibond with an mdf because with the original belts there was a slight movement in the y idler and y motor. but with this stabilisation the problem was still the same with the original belts. the new belts are thinner and softer, you see the difference in one of the photos. i think theyvon neptunier - Mendel90
nophead, i ordered this other belt and see what happens then. i will report. yes the collars are mostly for the front. but when the threaded rod for the z axis is not perfectly straight, then there might be a little bit of turning movement around the z axis rod. there the collars in the back might help, but i dont know if that would be really a problem. but i like to be sure about things, and whvon neptunier - Mendel90
after a print yesterday evening the belt problem on the x axis occured again, but less then before. but theses screws i put in are not so good because they have a flat bottom. i ordered headless srews with a pointed end, they should do a better job of staying in place. i put in 4 because i dont know how stablle the plastik is on the x mottor side. also with 4, from whatever direction the forces cvon neptunier - Mendel90
hi nophead, one more thing that came to my mind is that i had a problem with broken x axis holder on the left side. as a german coming from a tradition were machines were build to last a 100 years i do not feel completely comfortable with that solution ;-) all the x axis and all the belt tension depends an a few sqare centimeters printed in the direction of the layers, which very easily breaks. avon neptunier - Mendel90
nophead, the teethof the belt go all the way through, so that is not the problem. i tightened the y axis belt as strong as possible, but there is still this problem. the belt is running in the middle of the idler. the belts of my mendelmax are much softer and they have less tensin but they are running fine. i dont have much experience with belts, but as tbowren and i seem to have the same problvon neptunier - Mendel90
here is a video of the belt going over the pulley. he is moving up and down. that movement correlates with the ease of pushing the axis by hand. sorry about the quality, but you can see the movement.von neptunier - Mendel90
today the printer was running fine, until now. it again lost steps. so my solution from yesterday was not so permanent ;-) i attached fotos, maybe i did something wrong without knowing or recognizing. the belts make nice low sounds. my other printer, a mendelmax was running today without any problems, so i thought it would be a good day, two printers running.... could anybody have alook at thevon neptunier - Mendel90
so tbowren and i have the same problem. my english is not as good to explain these things nicely. but after i removed the belt by lipping and turning it over the pulley and made sure to make it a little more loose on the part between motor and print table it worked. then the whole table was running smoothly. it was not the belt touching the washer. in my case it did but with manually puttung thvon neptunier - Mendel90
i found out it is not only the belt tension, it is also how it is distributed. the piece of belt from the print table to the y axis motor was too tight, although the rest of the belt was okay. so loosening the belt there for 1 tooth made the difference. now he is running smoothly. so again another test print.... michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
i just find out that when i switch motors off and manually push the print table or the x axis, i does not go smooth. there are points where it is harder and softer. so that might be a mechanical problem. i tried to loosen the belt tension and it hels, but it is still a little bit uneven. are there acceleration variables that i canchange in the firmware? thanks, michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
thanks nophead, that brought the print to the middle of the printbed. i downloaded a configuration from somebody else, and i thought i should be right. however, the next problem occured. it looks like the printer was missing steps. attached is a picture. how can that happen? travel speed is 100, extruding speed something like 50 or 60, so not too fast. michaelvon neptunier - Mendel90
