Thanks Moto, i dont recall that being an issue in the past, but it makes sense. It Would be nice if slic3r could check for incompatable configs and give a meaningful error.

Slic3r
I've been using slic3r on ubuntu64 for a while now, but it is now unable to generate gcode for known STL files.
I get this error in a pop-up
Argument "\x{25}\x{35}..." isn't numeric in numeric gt (>) at /home/scott/local/pkg/Slic3r-0.9.8/lib/std/Slic3r/Layer/Region.pm line 255.
I tried using 0.9.7 and 0.9.5. The former gives a similar error and the latter just crashed.

0.5mm and smaller drills can be expensive and sometimes hard to find(in the states anyway). Even if you get one then what? wail away with a drill gun? I've been able to repeatedly clean my nozzle by soaking in acetone overnight and reaming the hole out with a piece of guitar string i measured at just under the nozzle diameter. By my thinking, if you remove any metal from the nozzle you've hurt

I've got a sells mendel with a Budaschnozzle1.0 and ive had issues with smaller parts curling at the edges. i learned about stretch and other culprits.
Then i realized the heatblock was causing these issues in areas just under it. I added a little pillow underneath out of ceramic fabric and kapton.
It's never an issue for larger parts but the small extruder gear is unprintable even with the pillo

It's been a while since you posted, maybe you've built your machine by now. If your still looking to see a machine before you build let me know.

Thats excellent, been doing this with temps for a while. i just figured it would get quickly overridden by the gcode.
I always turn temp off in SF and manage it from pronterface.
Thanks

I'm liking slic3r a lot. The speed improvement over SF is amazing, seemed like something must have gone wrong
One thing i find myself doing quite often and should be fairly easy to add to slic3r, is changing speeds partway through the print.
I've been doing this just by merging gcode generated for 2 different speeds. This helps on things with long peninsulas in the lower layers, so you can go

Im trying to build for 64bit linux. i've compiled things from source many times over the years but the perl/cpan this is new to me.
Whats the procedure to build from git master? should this be done as root or normal user?
Thanks

Thanks I've looked at pronterface and it looks better. Ive gotten recognizable prints using sf44 and very minimal settings per a post at medel-parts then loading the gcode file into repg for printing. Definitely need a heated bed.

General Mendel Topics
Hi all, I've gotten my first printer built and am trying to get my first print out of it. RAMPS1.4 with FiveD firmware, i can manual control everything with repG, everything seems pretty good. Axes move the correct distances and the extruder works pretty well. I've not been able to get anything useful from skeinforge. Does anyone have or know of a working toolchain with RAMPS and Mendel from
