My makerfarm prusa i3 8" had worked almost flawlessly for 3 years. Recently while printing my jhead lost track of temp and melted itself into oblivion. I tried a cheap (V6 I think) replacement from eBay and even with the cooling fan running, I could never get it to finish a 30 min print, It keeps clogging up. the seller refunded me, but I need a replacement jhead.

I forgot that the free version of Netfabb will split a file in half. So many people think that it will not because when you click the "free cut" option it tells you it's only available in the free version, but if you load the file on look at the right side of the screen, there are slider bars that when dragged, create a line to cut with. Once you have the line where you want, just click "execute

I didn't think about splitting the stock, that's a good idea. Is there an easy way to split it perfectly down the center?
I know if I scale 80% on 1 item, that all the rest will need it (which I've done). As for the bullet not fitting, I've already thought of that. I'm using a .22 barrel sleeve to go down the center of the plastic barrel. This should make the gun much stronger. The barrel size

I printed this file once with supports and all of the holes that I need to put moving parts into were obviously filled with support material. This is a nightmare to clean out, so I'm wondering if I am complicating this process?
This is a .22lr gun that I've scaled to 80% to fit my print bed. It is recommended to print the receiver on it's side, but the receiver portion is much thicker than the h

I need to print a file that is a nightmare to clean the support material out of. Is there a way to add support to only certain parts of the print and not others?

I guess I didn't have the python files installed that it wanted, so I did that and after hopefully picking the correct settings, we'll see how it slices. I figured I would give the gcode a try, just for fun.

I forgot that I already had all of those programs. I gave Replicator a shot and it seems to be easy enough to rotate, but I can't figure out how to set everything up for my Makerfarm Prusa I3 8", ABS, .50mm hotend
Blender won't load my file at all for some reason.
I'll give Netfabb another shot, but I hate how it doesn't have real time rotation, you are limited to just clicking on the axis sect

Thanks for the help. I'll look into these other options/methods right now.

Ok, so I guess it's Sketchup that's my problem (I realize this isn't a Sketchup forum). Like it is, the file is standing up and I need it flat and rotated corner to corner to fit my 8" bed. Sketchup is the only way I know of turning it sideways and rotating it. Any suggestions here? I've got 2 different versions of Sketchup (8 and 2014), both produce the same result.

I got to thinking maybe it was something that I've done so I just sliced the original file without taking it into any of the other programs mentioned and now it seems to look normal. Based on the image I've provided does anyone know possibly what went wrong?

I'm a gun/computer junkie and every since I built my printer I've wanted to print a gun. I've decided to go with a basic .22lr and for some reason I can't get the receiver to slice properly. All of the files are located here:
I couldn't attach just the receiver file because it's too big:
In the download package there is an STL folder with all needed files and the receiver is the one that I ju

I wasn't sure if parameter speed was just outside edges and wasn't sure how much that would change things, but obviously its the main factor. Thanks!

I opened the gcode in notepad and here are the first 15 or so lines from each, I don't see what would cause the extra print time??? I see the parameter speed is double and the first layer is 0.30mm more. Would either of those cause this?
Original file, faster print time:
; layer_height = 0.4
; perimeters = 3
; top_solid_layers = 3
; bottom_solid_layers = 3
; fill_density = 0.4
; perimeter_speed

I downloaded a file that was already in gcode and it called for 5 hours and 47 minutes to print. Since it was already in gcode I went and found the file's STL file and made my own gcode with Slic3r. When I loaded this file into Pronterface it said it would now take 6 hours and 50 minutes to print.,
What would cause this? Have I been doing something wrong all this time and making my prints take l

Vetteguy,
I've started having the same problem with the same setup, except I have the magma hot end with the 0.4mm nozzle. I think we have a blockage of some kind. I've noticed that there is ABS squeezing out between the extruder barrel and nozzle on my setup, which doesn't seem good. Anyone else experienced this?

FIXED!!!
While at Colin's house we found the PTFE sleeve inside my black tube was charred from heat and use. He says about once a year he replaces this piece. We took it out of the black tube and couldn't run a straight piece of filament through it by hand, it kept binding up in the end that was visible black/charred.
I put everything back together and it's printing perfectly now.

I just emailed Colin from Makerfarm about the oozing plastic and he thought either the PTFE sleeve inside has failed or the brass wasn't tight enough. I took it apart and it was so tight that it cracked my black cylinder. I'll be seeing him later today to buy another one, but at least I get to clean my brass head and can rule out it being clogged and the PTFE liner as my problem.

I just rechecked my gears and yes they are worn, but not worn out, there is still a very good mesh between them!

I don't understand how if I have a blockage I can extrude manually all the plastic that I want and it works fine but when I start the print is only when it fails.

Here are screenshots of my speed menu for the "Print" and "Printer" tabs in Slicer after loading my STL file. I always load my config file each time I open the program and I never change any of these settings. Maybe something, somehow was changed and got saved, but I highly doubt it. Do you guys see anything wrong with any of these settings?

I forgot, sorry. I'll try again tonight and see if I can get it to push through. this morning I extruded 30mm without any problems, so it seems like it only messes up shortly after I start the print, actually after the first layer. so should I try lightly forcing the filament through as its printing?

sorry I meant "print head", but this morning I pulled everything apart there was lots of little plastic pieces and the hobbed bolt had some plastic wedged in the teeth so I cleaned all that out put it back together and there was absolutely no change at all.
As for the filament manufacturer, it's made by a company called Folgers incorporated. I've tried calling and emailing them about 15 times wi

I've not changed anything in Slicer and have printed many things in the past without any problems. This last time when it began to fail, I turned the speed knob way down to 10% and it still wouldn't print.
