hi...so i built and designed a prusa i3 printer with a ramps 1.4/arduino mega setup. everything was working fine till something went screwy in printer it started skipping in the x axis...with each successive layer moving to thre right 1 layer width or so.
so I started trying to trouble shoot that problem when instead the printer would do the first couple lyers ok and then just doing rectangles mo

lol...well...ive tried Cura and I like it alot more...the bed temp seems to stay quite constant....but its not printing properly...it starts out t fine and then starts doing these wierd jagged zig zag lines and printing multiples with some of the copies overlapping what is already there...ive seen others have this problem on youtube...but i dont remember ever seeing a solution

hmm...ill try cura later today...but something else wierd is going on...so in slic3r i just set a print to print without the heated bed at all...so once in pronterface I printed the object and as the object prepared for printing, it bypassed the bed heating step and skipped directly to the nozle heating stage just as it was supposed to but once i started the print, I noticed that the heated bed t

IT says s65 so its setting the temp correctly in slic3r

Hi again guys...So I have an update for you...I wired my extruder fan directly to my power supply to bypass the problem altogether but I think I may have found the culprate...in the marlin where you select your board there are 4 VARIATIONS for a ramps 1.4 board, The power outputs for my board read heat 1, heat 2, and Bed. However the board variation I used as per the boards.h file is extruder, fa

how would I go about doing that...do I need some sort of editor to read the files??

Hey guys...so I am printing in pla with first layer temp of 60c and 65c after that in slic3r. After 5-10 minutes of printing the temp of my heatbed jumps to around 110c and stays there consistently...The temp is so high that it causes my prints to lose adhesion to the bed. What could be causing this? I ran PID Autotune for the bed but it made no difference. Could it be an error in the marlin set

And please elaborate...what exactly is an output FET??

Reprappers
well in all honesty the reason i didnt answer your question the first time is because i have no idea what an Output FET even is...ive been studying reprap for over 4 years now and never once heard the term...so if your talking about the wires or any part of their terminals...they do not appear to be touching...and yes...I had the suspicion that there may be some setting in the firmware that cause

trust me...ive gone over the wiring a hundred times and i dont think thats the problem...this is one of those cheap knockoff chinese ramps boards...currently directly next to the main power terminal the first 2 wires are from my heated bed and are marked heat bed on the board...the next 2 wires are for my hotend fan and they are plugged into heat 2 (possible culprite) though ive seen several vide

so then you are saying dont wire the fan to the board at all....just wire it directly to the power supply?? If that is possible it would fix all my problems..reminder..its a 12 volt power supply

sorry...ive had several threads running...so Im running a 12 volt power supply and according to the heated bed tabs 2 and 3 should both be negative...so i stripped an extra long piece of wire and soldered it to both tabs 2 and 3

So there appears to be a problem with my ramps board...every time i turn my hotend fan on the heated bed comes on and vice versa....the problem being...that I need my fan on all the time or my hotend clogs.....So i was wondering...would it be possible to wire my fan and the hot end power wires together that way they run together???

OK...So I fixed one of the problems...the wierd spiking and dropping of the heated bed readings followed by the bed turning off was due to a bad thermistor...it may have been from my bad soldering job or this heat sync paste that i used which is apparently the wrong stuff anyways...now if i could just solve this issue with the fan and heated bed coming on at the same time...
so my thought of a w

Hi guys...So I just installed a heated bed on my printer and its acting really strange...for starters, the bed only runs when the fan on my extruder comes on and vice versa but the 2 items are not plugged together...on my ramps board in the terminal directly to the right of the main power I have the bed wired to the first 2 terminals, the fan to the next 2, and the extruder to the last 2 which i

Man this is turning into a really complicated problem...SO If I am now working with 2 min endstops and 1 max...i need to comment out the line disabling max endstops....what else do i need to change in the arduino to get my y axis to home to the ymax instead????

Well I know the locations are different things on different boards....but if your looking at the board with the power on the bottom right...I plugged the bed into the first 2 screw terminals from the power main..directly next to it...On my board they are lableled for the bed

If I switch to y max...Wouldnt I need to Switch the ymin endstop board connection to ymax?? If I were to simply invert the y axis in the arduino...would that fix the problem

Hi guys...So ive been using the compact bowden print to dial in my printer...After many failed prints I finally got a successful print, I noticed that the file printed backwards on the y axis from what it was supposed to..ive enclosed 2 pictures, the first is that file as it is in pronterface and the second is the actual print...
So to fix this I know theres a few solutions, flip the y connectio

Hmm..sounds like a wierd problem..It sounds to me like your extruder motor may be overheating...Check the trimpot screw on your extruder stepper driver...If its supplying too much energy it can cause the motor to overheat...usually after a couple hours of use...Another option would be putting a fan on the motor

thanx for the advice guys...So I decided to buy some 16 guage wire and used that to hook up the bed...I had trouble getting it to turn on till I ran a PID autotune...once I did that it ran great...Though after my first print finished The bed did not power off...even after i turned it off in pronterface...I had to manually turn off the power...What could cause this????

And thank you for your response as well o_lampe So I'm not sure of the guage but I do have an extra length of insulated wiring that came with an e3d heater cartridge for my spare hotend would that be sufficient or should I just bite the bullet and buy some thicker guage wiring???
Also what is this GND cable you are talking about?

thanx for the info...as for lcd...that was actually a misprint..I meant to type LED...and as for the powersupply that was another misprint...my power supply is 12 volt

Hi everyone...So I recently bought a heated bed off of Amazon but upon opening the package I realized that the board was completely naked lol...no resistor or LED...So I can live without the LCD but what about the Resistor? Do I need to procure one? What is the Purpose of the Resistor on the Board????
Also I am running an Arduino Mega/RAMPS 1.4 combo and I live in the US and am running a 120 vol

that sounds way above my capabillities lol...would a fan on the board help? Though I would doubt it if the problem lies with the arduino Mega, which is UNDER the ramps board....

Hi guys...I have a LCD 12864 Graphic Smart Display Controller
When I first built my printer I installed and set the controller up and it worked fine...It stayed on and worked properly.
Then one day I plugged my laptop into the printer as usual doing some tweaking and when i unplugged my laptop the lcd shut off. Now The lcd will only work when my laptop is plugged in via usb but as soon as i unpl
