Hi,
I have not printet the parts for my MendelMax myself, so I do not have the print files.
Can anyone help me identifying the direct extruder above the white plate, and possibly a link to the files ?
Thank you,

Hi,
I have a standard square red Mendelmax heat bed.
When I turn it on, it heats significantly faster in the top right corner of the heat bed.
Is this normal, or does it indicate a broken heat bed ?

I realize I am mostly talking to my self here, but in case anyone stumbles upon this thread in the future.
I replaced the shield, but as I did I noticed one of the 12V connectors was melted and corroded, so this was probably the cause.

Before I buy a new shield for the Arduino, is there something I should measure first ?
-or is there a better subforum to ask in ?

Oh, and there is 12V on both main inputs, also when there is load on D8.
Could it be a software issue, although I have not changed anything.

So, I tried replacing the Mosfet closest to the D8 connectors with the heat sink.
Same as before,...
With no load the LED turns on, and there is 2.4V on D8.
When I put a load on D8, heat bed or fan, the voltage is 1.2V and the LED does not turn on. (I'm guessing the output voltage is also driving the LED?)
When the bed is turned off there is +-0.2V on D8.
Any thoughts ?
Thank you.

Hi,
My heat bed was working fine on a Ramps 1.4, but sometimes it would stop heating, but come on again after some days.
Now it is completely gone. (MendelMax 1.5)
I have tried replacing the large polyfuse with a 15A carfuse.
When the heat bed is disconnected, the LED turn on/off when I set the temperature from pronterface (with a 2 sec delay, (the nozzle LED turn on/off ímmediately)).

Hi,
I have tried Slic3r, Cura and Kissslicer, but they all give me very little control over the actual slicing and support.
Is there a slicer that allows me to interactively tell the slicer where to put support, and not to put it ?
And perhaps also to slice a region differently ?
Either free or commercial (not too expensive)
Love all the free software and greatly appreciate the many hours pu

Hi,
I have been trying to slice the Reindog on thingiverse, but both Slic3r and Cura makes weird supports.
In the attached image, Cura makes a large gap in the support, and start the support of the ears in mid air.
Which slicer do you use ?

Hi,
I am very happy with the looks of my PET prints, except for the top layer which is always rough and dull.
Also sometimes it would nice to remove the stripy sides of the print.
Do you have any tips ?

Thank you for the replies,
It helped raising the temperature.
The reason I had it low, was because I had a lot of oozing when initially heating the printer.
It would drain the nozzle, and I had to compensate with a lot of skirt/brim.
Thanks,

Hi,
The second layer is not properly adhering to the bottom layer, and is pulled back with the nozzle.
This happen at all heights, but usually only for pointy edges. It was just very clear in this print.
Printed with PET T-Glase, 15mm/s, 190C, 0.5mm nozzle, 0.4mm layer, bed 60C ?

Hi,
I have an issue where overhang bends upwards ?
It is only when the overhang is narrow, like the chin of totodile in the image.
If the overhang cools before the next layer, it will after some time, break the print off the bed.
I print with t-glase, 212 degrees, 0.5mm nozzle, 0.25 layer.

Thanks, I have some of that.
I also have some glue for furnaces.

Thank you for the suggestions,
I tried increasing the I values, but that made the temperature very unstable +-10 degrees.
What would you suggest to use for insulation, tinfoil ?

Hi,
Auto calibration works fine, and is gives me good PID values for keeping a temperature of 212 degeres (PET).
But at the beginning of the print, it can can take up to 10min for it to reach the temperature and start printing.
It will usually hover just below 212, around 203 or so.
Any ideas ?
Is there a set of PID values that will climb quickly to 212 that I could upload to firmware, and t

I read the log on Printrun, and it seems to have all the configuration for my printer, and it was using Marlin 1.0.0.
So I guess I just compile the latest version of Marlin, with my machine parameters ?
Thank you,

Hi,
I have bought a used MendelMax1.5, so the only firmware I have is the compiled version on the Arduino.
So I need to start all over, what software is currently recommended, or are you using ?
And is there a commissioning guide somewhere, I can not find one.
Thank you,

Thank you for the hint.
I tried using Cura for slicing, and it did so without the need of remeshing.
So I will probably just be using that for landscapes.

Slic3r
Hi,
I have generated a landscape with heightmap2stl.jar which appears to generates a .stl point cloud, see image.
Slic3er imports the file fine, and it looks nice, but the resulting layers are not connected, and there is no solid bottom.
How would you slice it to create a closed shape ?

Thank you,
That was the keyword I needed for further investigation.
Some oil on the Z-axis helped a bit, but I still need a bit more adjustments.
Thx,

Hi,
What could be the cause of this periodic error, most visible in the yellow print, but also present in the blue ?

Thank you for the tip.
I ended up doing something similar, just with the nut on the other side of the wheel.
But I will probably have to print a new extruder soon.

Alternatively, does anyone have some preferences/settings files for MendelMax1.5 and a slicer application ?
I unsuccessfully tried one off the internet, and nearly broke the printer as it tried to extrude cold filament.

Hi,
I have a Mendelmax1.5, and I have been using Slic3r out of the box with almost default settings, and it works almost ok.
It does however do some weird slicing sometimes, and I am looking for an alternative to try.
But as I am new to 3D printing, I would like a starting point that I can refine, rather than build form the ground up.
Any thoughts ?

Hi again,
I had some problems printing on my new/old printer, and I thought it was related to the filament.
But when I took the extruder apart, it looks like a bearing had been overtightened, and taken the extruder apart.
Is there no spacer preventing the bearing in the image from twisting inwards ?
And do I need a new printed part, it looks a bit battered.
Thank you,

Just took the extruder apart.
One of the bearings was jammed, and the main axis could hardly turn.
Not related to printing, sorry.
