That smoking is probably stream. If it smells bad it's burning plastic.

I think that hat creep is melting the plastic so it folds into itself and can't get into the hot end. You should probably replace that pfte or find a way to cool it better.

I was at the 3d printer world expo and saw airwolf 3d print with abs and pla supports. They then dissolved the pla in a sink cleaner and the result was great. I would look into this. Go to airwolf 3d's website

What's the ambient temperature in the room you are printing in? If its too cold that may be why.

Printing
My printer has no cooling fans. But when I print with pla, it curls upwards on overhangs. When I point a desk fan at it though, the curling is reduced. I think its all about finding the perfect balance between too little cooling and too much cooling.

Slic3r takes forever to export the gcode (I assume that is what slic3r is doing at 90%). Just keep waiting...

Here is the beginning of my gcode.
G21 ; set units to millimeters
M107
M190 S65 ; wait for bed temperature to be reached
M104 S210 ; set temperature
G28 ; home all axes
G1 Z5 F100 ; lift nozzle
M204 X3.65 Y0.09 Z36.0 ; temperature stabilizer
M109 S210 ; wait for temperature to be reached
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
G92 E0
M82 ; use absolute distances for extrusion
G1 F6000.000 E-1.50000
G92 E

Hi all,
I'm thinking of buying one of seemecnc's rostock kits. How were your experiences with the kit and do they run smoothly once built? Do they need any mods? Overall, would you recommend this kit? I currently have a Cartesian printer and am interested in building a delta printer.
Thanks!

Delta Machines
There's some students somewhere that executed something like this but they're printing with clay. Search "sky printer" on instructables.

okay, thanks! ill adjust my retraction speeds. What about the amount of retraction? I assume a smaller number is best. I have had good success at 2mm with some stringing at 1mm. im wary of going too high.

Hi jbernardis,
Thanks! I haven't learned G code too much yet... is the extrusion/retraction command written with an "E?" I have thought about this some and believe that a slower retraction speed is best, but not too slow as to not create enough pressure to prevent oozing. What are your thoughts?

Slic3r
Does slic3r extrude extra filament equal to the amount retracted? I'm currently adjusting my retraction settings and have found that less is better, even though I don't know why. If slic3r doesn't account for the retraction done, I believe this would be the reason less retraction is better. Thanks!
