UPDATE....
Sorry I didn't get back sooner...
It was the filament.... I got a real from 3D Filaprint...
3D Flaprint
And that works perfectly!
Thanks for all the advice....
I'm not about to talk down about any company as what doesn't work for my machine, doesn't mean it wont for somebody else...

Thanks guys, I completely rebuilt the hot end (not the way described by rich1051414) and although I can print on other reels, these two still jam... even earlier now though????
I have made some prints in the old black and it came out perfect.
I will put the Hot end together the way rich has written and let you know....
Thanks again.

There are a number of causes of extruder skipping.
If the motor is too hot to hold your finger on, you should reduce amps. Another test is to pause the print (keeping the hot-end up to temperature) when the skipping starts. Wait for a few minutes, then resume printing. If the skipping restarts immediately, the problem is in the extruder driver or motor. If not, the problem is in th

Thanks frankvdh.
I will have a thorough look at it tomorrow and report back....
I did think it might be the extruder driver? I might try swapping it from one of the axis? maybe Z as this has a low duty???
The "banging" I said about.... This has been going on for quite some time but I ignored it as I was still getting good prints...
What can this be?
How do I know if I need to adjust amps???

I have almost this exact problem too...
I don't want to hijack this thread so tell me to start a new one but.
I have the Sunhokey i3 with a PCB heat bed, E3d V6 hot end and auto bed leveling, all assembled corecly and has been working like a dream.
I have had 12 hour prints come out really nice but recently, I had a guy ask me to print a prototype part that should have taken about 8 hours but ab

Hi, Thanks for leading me to this post....
My problem is the other way round....
I'm getting perfect, larger-ish prints from PLA but I have found that the "PLA" I ordered is actually ABS....
I reset my printer for ABS and I thought I had it with about a meter extruded in the air and when I went for a print, all looked fine 'til maybe an hour in...... BLOCKED hot end!

Something dawned on me today....
I started to doubt that this was PLA so I went for the next thing... ABS???
I did a dip test in acetone and stuck two failed prints together....
So, I set my printer up for ABS, 240 HE and 100 Heat bed....
I then calibrated my E-steps.... did a test print and it was good..... ish....
I then went for a simple print and guess what..... Blocked Hot end! FFS!!!!!!

I still do all my prints without but here in AU I usually only suffer from too hot temps and not suck much from low temp problems.
But from what I have tried so far I have to say that really big parts, considering my 300x260x200 build volume, benefit from an enclosure or at least a big bag over the printer to keep the temp evenly inside.
12h plus prints usually encounter changin

Many thanks for ALL of that info...
I'll give this a go over the weekend....
As for changing room temp's.... I have been thinking of building an enclosure....???

Hi Frank,
That's what I was thinking but BQ suggested that's what they print at so I went with it....
On the e3d hot end, the heater and thermistor are quite close... I'm need to change the battery in my temp probe to check it out....
I did plan to re-cal me extrusion and change for a new nozzle but probably wont get a chance 'til the weekend???
The diameters on both filaments are bang on 1.

Ok, Here are the results of tonight....
The single wall square is my go to calibration parts and it has worked out for me in the past.....
The white part is made with Filaprint PLA 1.75 and is all but spot on... (I have calibrated my extrusion for another product (Orange Filaprint))
The grey part is from the BQ filament with a temp up at 230 as I saw a video printing at 230 and it looked good.

Maybe its some kind of heat creep. It may take a while for the heat to creep from the nozzle up the heat break and then to soften the filament enough to jam. Maybe you've just been lucky with the other filament.
So, some basic questions to cover the obvious (a photo would probably help too)...
I take it that you do have a fan on the heatsink? And that it is on all the time? With a

Ok, I'll clean it out again and try a test print....
The strange thing is, the first thing I printed in this grey stuff is a ring about 60mm dia and 6mm hight... Perfect!
Then I went to print a cylinder same dia' but about 130 tall and that failed....
Then everything after that fails after the first few layers????

OK, I'll have a look at that....
The thing is, I've read nothing but great reviews about this stuff????

Hi Folks,
Ok, my printer is....
Sunhokey Prusa i3.
Bowden Extruder fitted with an E3d V6 Hot End.
PCB Heat Bed with a Glass Surface and a BuildTak Sheet.
Also has Auto Leveling.
I have set my gaps and extrusion and all WAS going well.....
That was until I changed to a different filament....
I was using Filaprint PLA but I wanted grey for the particular project I am on...

Hi AGAIN!
I completed my Auto leveling on my i3 and it works great! as far as the FW goes...
Apart from when I give it the G29 command....
The Z axis drives down and it lowers the servo too low and the lowest corner crashes into the build plate..... That is, the Z is too low before the switch can get level with the build plate...
Any suggestions???
It homes ok with the G28 and even after a litt

Thank you James.
I'm using a .4 nozzle and printing at .2 layers.
I also had a slightly thicker 1st few layers???

Sorry about the quality of this but it's just to show it working....
I'm actually quite happy with this but not so for the sizing...
I'll try to tune my e-steps tomorrow....

Do I still go back and run out say 100mm of filament, tune the e steps from that or is there a better way?
When you say "fine tuning"... Can you give me more on that please?

Hi Folks,
I have been less than happy with my prints lately but for the most part it never seemed to worry my too much...
Recently, I decided to start a huge project.... The Saturn V rocket on thingiverse... I think most of us has seen it!
I started with the Command Module, NOT a great print!.... a lot of the detail got lost in banding on the X-Y plane...
One thing on my printer (Sunhocky Pru

Hi folks....
I was wondering if it was possible to run the printer off a Raspberry Pi?
Not sure if it's a great idea but as I'm building an enclosure, it might be good to run it completely stand-alone???
Any thoughts????

How do you reset it?
I warmed it with my hand to about 15 degrees but when I power cycled it, it still said "min temp error"

Ok, I'm working on it!
I have an unused baby table and it has a top area of 760 X 495.
My Prusa i3 actually fits in the short side but I will build the "box" as big as I can on that platform and mount the printer that way... Maybe???
Anyway, I'm working on the design now so when I have something, I'll post it up....
Thanks for the help....
And of course, keep this going as the more ideas the be

Hi Friends!
Just spent a good many hours designing a part and went to my printer to set it of printing but it's just too cold to print....
My workshop is un-heated and right now the temp is showing 3*C! Brrr!!!... I don't mind it but my printer is a big girl and doesn't like the cold!
So... My options are.....
1, Heat my workshop.... It's a very big room and wold cost the earth to heat plus t

I have been printing with some great results!.. still not perfect but very good for such a cheep printer!
I will be fitting a height sensor of some sort and yours does look very good!...
