Second on the isopropyl alcohol advice. 70 C might be too hot for PLA on PEI, maybe try 60 or 55 C. Otherwise, fine sandpaper seems like a great idea - or try flipping the PEI sheet over, the other side might be less glossy.
My advice: don't give up on PEI just yet - I recently got a sheet and it's the single best upgrade I've made to my i3, went from ~80% success with PLA and 20% success with

Hi all,
I upgraded the firmware on my 2014 Sunhokey Prusa i3 to Marlin 1.1.0 yesterday. PLA prints work even better than before - no problems at all. However, when printing with ABS, everything goes well until about 20 minutes into the print when my i3 either 1) suddenly stopps completely and turns off the heaters or 2) stops, turns of the heaters and moves the print carriage to the upper right-

Update: I changed my serial port setting to 0 and now I can see and set the temperatures of the bed and extruder in Repetier Host. However, none of the motors move still. I tested the stepper motors and they appear to be working fine.
Update 2: One of the stepper drivers was getting way too hot, even though none of the motors will move. I switched the hot stepper driver with another and the same
