Hi everyone,
I make polymer filament using my home-made version filament making machine (with a small winding machine).
The problem is that the filament diameter varies from 1.5 - 2mm, and it's not good for the printing. I plan to make a tube which has 1 end is 2.5mm and the other end is 1.75mm so that the filament will be squeezed to 1.75mm when it still hot.
I'm using shape memory polymer, po

I have solved the LCD display problem by removing the // in the line //#define REPRAP_DISCOUNT_SMART_CONTROLLER. I hope this will be helpful for someone google the same problem.
I have another problem.
I used PRONTERFACE to calibrate the extruder. The 2nd extruder moves perfectly but the 1st does not. Instead of, the right length of filament need to be extrude, it just extrude ~ 1/10 , for examp

Hi everyone,
I am building a dual nozzle 3D printer with different E step. I use Marlin 1.0.2 and arduino software 1.0.5-r2 . I have question about setting up the E step for 2nd nozzle.
This is the original code for E step
#define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {X, Y, Z, E}
Can it be modified like this for different E step?
#define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT {X, Y, Z, E0, E1}

Hi everyone,
In order to improve the precision of Z axis, I am going to customize the threaded rod and nut with CNC machine of course. Please give me some advise about anything, such as material, hardness and precision grade, etc. or better by using leadscrew for higher precision and minimum backlash.
Thank you for your time.

Hi everyone,
I am setting up a dual extruder for my i3 with totally different E step. After google and reading articles related to the topic, i come up with this:
- In configuration.h:
1. First define second extruder
#define Extrude 2
#define EXTRUDER_OFFSET_X {0.0, 0.0} // (in mm) for each extruder, offset of the hotend on the X axis
#define EXTRUDER_OFFSET_Y {0.0, 50.00} // (in mm)

Hi everyone,
I've got my crappy i3 from my friends and most of the parts is Chinese. I want to upgrade it, starting with the frame. My question is that "Is the frame have any effect on the precision of the printer?". I read the reprap wiki about the frame but it doesnt have much information about it except the modular type. My opinion is NO but i want to know what you think about it and please t

Hi the_digital_dentist,
- Thank you for your information about slic3r.
- Actually, i am new to reprap 3d printer,currently i am participating in a project and my role is getting the finest layer height as possible. I try to get the actual printed layer height.
- About the images, unfortunately my phone can't get better image than previous images and the borrowed microscope's magnification is li

Hi Paul Wanamaker,
- I am currently using 0.4mm nozzle, still waiting for smaller size nozzles.
- The gcode is too much to post here, so i just post the link for the gcode file.
- I printed rectangular 20x20x15 with different layer heights with same speed 30mm/s (external perimeter = 50% by default) and other parameters.
Top 0.2mm, left 0.1mm, right 0.03mm.

Hi Paul Wanamaker and thank you for your discussion,
- This is the step/unit of my i3: X100.00 Y100.00 Z4000.00 E782.20.
- About the shorter height, as mentioned before, when the first layer was printing, the ABS was not extruded and the suddenly it too much. Although i had set the first layer height = 0.35mm and then = 0.1mm. The issue is still remain as you can see in the base of the cube. It

This result come from 2 hours calibration and nameless work + 2 hours for printing. I dont know exactly is it a 0.03mm layer thickness cube, 0.04, 0.05 or whatever but i think it is better compare to the one that printed before the re-calibration or is it just my imagination, i leave the judgement to you.
The 0.03mm after calibration cube suppose to be in 15x15x15 dimension but something went wro

Thank you for your reply Downunder35m and Srek.
I try to reach the lowest layer thickness possible in ABS with my crappy Prusa Mendel i3. My goal is 0.01mm = 10um. Last time i printed 15x15x15 cubes in 0.1mm and 0.03mm layer thickness both with 10mm/s. Although the 0.03mm cube took a longer time, the surface of 0.1mm cube seem to be more smoother than 0.03mm. What could be the issue here?

Hi everyone,
Is there any formula or numerical relationship between layer thickness and printing speed to get the best result (surface smooth, etc.)? something like layer 0.1mm -> speed 15mm/s

Hi everyone,
My printing problem is that after printing a few layer the nozzle doesnt touch the previous printed layer anymore, another word is the gap between nozzle and printed layer is too big. I uses Prusa mendel i3, first layer 0.35mm and other layers 0.1mm, temp = 245C, bed temp = 60C. What is the reason for this problem and how to fix it?
Thank you.

Thank you Viktor and dougal1957.
Actually, beside the name Prusa i3 Mendel, i dont know anything about it. I get this 3d printer from my friend who got it from his friend who got it from his foreigner friend
I've already emailed them about the printer but they've not reply yet. So i think i should use some sort of software to copy the firmware from the Arduino and find out what version is it.

Hi everyone,
I am making a hybrid 3d printer which includes FDM and Polyjet. The resin in polyjet system is extruded as filament in FDM by stepper motor nema 17. My question is that can the currently available program (Arduino IDE) in my 3D printer be used for dual nozzle or i have to upload a dual nozzle version program?
This is my RAMPs, the red circle is the wire of FDM extruder stepper moto

Hi Viktor,
I till dont know how it work? How is the black object with thread (red) moved along the threaded rod? In my understanding, the black object with thread will be rotated with the threaded rod not moved along it as screw and bolt. Did you made the black object by yourself? I dont have any machine or tool that can made thread.
And the tube (green) it hollow with no thread?
Thank you.

CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
Thank you VDX.
But i dont sure which one is better in control the flow: a stepper motor with syringe or a cylinder with piston. Do you have any experience with that?
And i still dont know how to treat the polyjet with light in order to get the smooth surface as in polyjet printer since the resin is extruded like filament not layer-whole jetted.

CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
I have come up with an idea to build the hardware polyjet part like this (2 options):
1. Motor --> big syringe (without needle) --> teflon liner --> 3D printed connector (with thread at nozzle side) --> nozzle (same as FDM part) --> print --> A <-- light
I still have some difficulties to determine the mechanism that connects motor to syringe. I intend to use stepper motor ne

CNC Routers, Mills, and Hybrid RepRapping
Hi everyone,
I am starting a project that building a hybrid 3D printer which is combination of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and polyjet technology. I look for information in the internet but nothing is useful. Have anyone built it or had information about it?
I have an idea that building polyjet part as another nozzle in a dual nozzle 3D printer.
I would be very grateful for any suggestion,

Hi everyone,
Can a normal (not modified) Prusa Mendel i3 achieve 0.01mm layer thickness?
Let say i am printing a cube 1cm height.
Can i get 0.01mm by adjusting 0.01 in the layer thickness in slicing software (Slic3r, Cura, etc.)? Is it just simple like that?
And confirm 0.01mm by getting the height of printed cube (by measuring) divided by the number of printed layers (by counting) => 1cm/(n

Hello everyone,
I assembled my reprap from parts that i bought 5 months ago. It worked well in the first 4 month. My reprap's Z axis is actuated by 2 stepper motor LDO-42STH47-1684A as shown in attached file.
The problem is now the right one sometime rotates in the opposite direction with the left one or not rotate at all. Especially, when i were trying to do the Z offset. I tried to re-wire th
