Thanks for the information.
Have you tried this with a smaller part? We usually have no problems with a coating of paper glue (such as pritt-stick) but its nice to know of other methods.

There are a number of 3D printable files on places such as thingiverse that help to prevent this. Although, like mentioned above, we find that a bit of resistance on the spool holder works great (so the spool cannot move very freely). Seems to work for us.

How have you set your wall thickness because the amount you specific in cura is divided by your nozzle diameter. So we always use a wall thickness of 0.8mm when we have a 0.4mm nozzle so thats two extrusions for each wall (if you see what I mean, sorry if the is confusing)
So its always best to set your wall thickness to be a multiple of your nozzle diameter. So setting the thickness at 2mm migh

We find that a low temperature (e.g 220deg for ABS) and a fast speed and high flow rate work best for bridging.

Sounds like you have PLA. However, if you buy cheap filament some manufacturers mix plastics so you might not have pure PLA and therefore thats why you have these funny characteristics. Or, as stated above you might have a PLA/ABS hybrid filament.
We don't do that though. Our filament is high quality and therefore pure PLA or ABS.

You might have some debris inside the nozzle or perhaps the PLA is cooling and clogging the nozzle. Try a hotter nozzle temp without cooling fans to make sure its not the latter

Yes ABS can be a hard plastic to print with but is rewarding when you get it right.
It sounds like you are printing a very small print and therefore I would agree with the above advice. Basically:
- Slow the print down
- Don't use a cooling fan (especially on such a small print)
- Wait 30 seconds before starting a new layer.
- You might benefit from a higher bed temperature such as 110deg.

Yeah there is definitely a window for the heated bed to operate best in. Heating it too high is unlikely to merely result in a lack of adhesion but also stuff like elephant footing.

Glad to here that you're printing well! It's very rewarding when you dial in your printer isn't it?
Any projects lined up?

Yes the mini fabrikator has a few issues. Is your mini fabrikator a V1.5?? (i.e a new one?)
If so then Hobbyking turned down the operating voltage that the motors work at. The original mini fabrikators had an issue which allowed too much voltage to the motors which would get very hot and then cease to work and eventually melt the plastic frames.
So the result is sometimes the printer has low-v

It's really horrible to have a design stolen or exploited! It's a shame that there are people out there who do such a thing.
However, it's an issue that is a big one and actually, in my opinion, something that is a barrier to 3D printing becoming truly mainstream. Manufacturing is a significant way of preventing people stealing your ideas so when you take that out of the equation and simply sel

Yes this is something that is common when you use only 1 wall (or in your case 1.5 walls)
I would try setting your shell thickness to 0.8mm and then print it again and see what happens.
Also you are printing both parts at the same time? try printing only one part at a time because the nozzle moving between prints can cause this too.
Hope this helps,

We don't use any cooling fans on ABS as they always have caused us warps!
Have you tried printing with a Brim (as opposed to your raft you mention)
And what temperature is your bed at?

Yeah we find Cura's great so tend to use it all of the time. Its very simple but the only annoying thing is when it always recalculates the print time every time you move the print a fraction.
