I am building a scratch built Cartesian printer using repetier host/firmware, and my test cubes all have obvious layering issues. I'm using PLA at 190C. I have calibrated the axes and extruder, and the belts are tight, but still with some give.

It is not a raft layer. The print bed moves on the Y axis, I have lead screws on the Z axis to move the X carriage up and down.
Here are some photos.
The problem is probably in the tool head, which is only connected to the X carriage by 2 screws.

You are correct in that I am using 1.75mm filament. I am using the CuraEngine slicer that is built into repetier host. The model was intended to be 20mm on each side, the printed model is 19.61mm by 19.66mm by 22.46mm high.
Settings are shown.

I have begun the calibration process for my scratchbuilt cartesian printer, and my test cube looks like this.
When I ordered my filament (PLA), I made the mistake of opening the package and leaving the spool exposed to the air. Could that be causing this? If so, is there a way to salvage moist filament? Or could this be caused by axis wobble?

I am having some trouble calibrating my printer. I have the correct steps/mm value that I need to send to my printer, but when I change the value in my arduino program, M205 does not report the value to have changed. I am using a ramps 1.4/arduino mega, with repetier host and firmware.

Got it. I'm using 1.75mm PLA. I though I remembered reading somewhere that 130 was the correct temperature, but I'm not sure how that happened.

I am building a scratchbuilt printer using a RAMPS 1.4 board. My 12v hotend is not melting the filament, although it is heating up and Repetier says that it is reacing 130C. The thermistor is placed directly in the little hole on the heating block. I have a working fan and heatbead.
Here is my hotend:

I have been building a printer from scratch using a RAMPS 1.4 board and repetier firmware. When I try to move the x and y axes, they move in an erratic, jerky manner. They are never consistent, and sometimes the motors will emit a high pitched whining noise. The y carriage only moves millimeters at a time. I have tried adjusting belt tension. Both axes move easily and smoothly by hand. I was

Just changed it, still no luck. Does the board need to be connected to the power supply in order to connect?

Firmware - Marlin
I have been having trouble getting Pronterface to connect to my RAMPS 1.4/Arduino Mega. When I try to connect, the monitor just says "connecting...", and when I unplug my board, I get the following error:
Can't read from printer (disconnected?) (SerialException): call to ClearCommError failed
Can't write to printer (disconnected?) (SerialException): WriteFile failed (WindowsError(22, 'The de

Firmware - Marlin

I'm also surprised you could flash Marlin on an UNO?
Terribly sorry, I've been doing so much stuff with unos lately that I forgot I was wasn't using one.
Actually using a MEGA. Cheap clone ordered from amazon, this is the second arduino/RAMPS that I have tried.
Servo pin is set to 11.

Whoops. I installed an older version of Marlin to see if it would work, and I guess I forgot to change that. I was doing the same thing even with it was set to the correct board, but I can try again.
Edit: just changed it to this: #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_RAMPS_13_EFB
Still no luck.

I have tried using 115200 BAUD. Both the firmware and Pronterface are set to the same thing. Using an Arduino Mega.

Pronterface refuses to connect to my printer. The monitor just says "connecting..." and stays that way. Both the board and pronterface are using COM 8. Baudrate is 250000 on both. I have tried changing the baudrate. I have tried a different USB cable and port. I have made sure that Arduino and Pronterface are not running at the same time. The board can connect the the Arduino IDE without a
