How about setting zero bottom layers and zero top layers and then set the infill to give whatever screen pattern you like? You'll probably need to use a grid or triangles pattern so you get the full pattern on each layer.
This basically works. I can use the infill setting to adjust the hole size, and I just used "lines" which is good pattern. It looks nice.

I managed using a 0.3mm nozzle and 1mm line width. When the printer fills in alternating patterns, it makes a nice screen with 0.5mm holes rather than actually filling.
The issue is, now to combine this with other parts of the model that are not screens, since they do not print correctly anymore.
For example, I might print a funnel with a screen at the bottom.

I think the idea here is, the arduino is too slow to run the delta computations, so instead a delta printer for example can receive gcode in it's native coordinate system rather than transforming it on the fly.
Now... what would be really interesting is if the gcode could compensate out other factors like wobble, resonance (very difficult), non-linearity, axis mis alignments. Maybe it already

You've already listed a few valid things.
The hotend sock will help a lot. Also take care, the part cooling fan doesn't blow on the nozzle.
What type of hotend is best? do the j-head really use ceramics instead of metal to prevent heat from rising out of the nozzel? If so, does this improve efficiency significantly?
can I use 2 or 3 socks?

I am looking to run a 3d printer off limited solar power. The solar panels produce a small amount of power when overcast and in winter the daylight hours are short.
If you are connected to an electrical grid, you might measure power in kilowatt hours, and not understand where I am coming from. Just understand that saving even 1 watt is an important difference.
Ways to (maybe) reduce power:
