I have this note in my firmware before switching over to SF41
// e_step_per_unit = 25 and speed =2000 is ideal for repsnapper
I also run PLA at 170. I'm sure none of these temperatures are exact but start low and keep testing by hitting the extrude button
I'm also running the same electronics as you (except V1.2).

I've been using foam core board, this kind you find in the office supply store, on PLA. if you adjust the depth just right it sticks, yet you can pull the piece right up after the print.

On the orginal claim that this is more accurate... I'm running a 19mm dia pulley on my stepper. On the straight thru design for every revolution on the pulley the extruder moves Pi*D. In this design the motion is cut in half, so the stepper reduced (like going with a 8.5mm pulley but that would result in belt life issues). Most steppers are running at 200 steps per rev meaning for each step

Have you done anything to understand why it broke in the first place? I have a mendel that is all belt driven. Belts tend to give slightly so you don't break stuff and don't loose steps. I wonder if this simplified mendel has a design flaw in the Z axis? That said I would consider making the coupling out of a stronger material. Like wood or aluminum for example. You can also buy steel c

It appears to be feeding too fast, or trying to. Current setting on stepper driver is too low causing it to loose steps. Possibly temperature is too low. It doesn't appear to be slipping, common when the hobbed teeth fill up with plastic and normally the result of any blockage. The nozzle doesn't appear to be plugged.

Besides the good advise from above... you should also have an answer the question that will be asked: "...now that you built the machine what do you plan to do with it?".

Not sure whats going on with the temperature. When I sliced in Repsnapper it genrally started with E0 then as your x and y moves it calculates the distance moved and applies it to the Ecode. Although you are only traveling a few mm the E value is up to 1764. I guess this could depend on your firmware setting for extruder speed, but it seems high.
I'd try running repsnapper without a pro

I would post the STL file, have others print it and post a similar photo, then match the settings from the best results. With all the SF41 setting to choose from, hitting on the optimal might take forever.

HI, I don't know if this helps but... I'm running Ramps V1.2 on a Mendal design, slicing in Skeinforge 41 but running on RepSnapper. So the difference is I'm not slicing in RepSnapper. My firmware sets the extruder speed to 620 when running SF41 gcode. Attached is my 20mm test cube placed @(40,40) on the bed. Also, I don't know anything about your machine but your temperature seems hig

Start with the firmware first.
make sure you have a driver for the usb port that communicates with the Mega 2560 - get it on the Arduino web site
Load up Arduino-22. If you had installed Arduino before and communicated to Gen 3 that has Sanguino, delete this folder
down load firmware of your choice. I use Tonokip in Ramps.
The firmware loads up with about 4 tabs. Pin data goes into pins.h

I built a mendal repstrap and without a doubt the most difficult part of this build was to getting the extruder to work. I was determined to build all components and in the end purchased the nozzle, PTFE tube and the long stainless barrel from Makerbot. I built a tray that holds the power resistors (I used the inexpesive square type) that the nozzle and tube are thread into. The key is there

As a mentor for a First robotics team at the local US high school (16-18 years old) they would be more then capable of mastering the technology. Its great that you as an instructor have the freedom to put such a program on. Rapid prototyping is in every design house and this exposure is great. The only question is after you build the machines, and are able to create designs, what do you plan

I'm trying foam core board stuck to a glass top with double sided carpet tape. I cut the board to 60mm squares and peal the board off the tape when done. You can leave the print on the board for display. The PLA sticks well to the paper surface but tends to take paper with it if you peal it off. Home is off the board, but level to it, a few mm above the surface where you can run a test ext

On SF41 it really isn't calculated..it more a calibration. I set my speed in Repsnapper to 30 and length to 100. Then measured 100mm of filiment above the extruder. Actually make it 110 so you can see that your mark is 10mm above the extruder at the end. Then keep adjusting your e_steps_per unit until 100mm of filiment actually go through the extruder. So when you slice in Repsnapper I r

SF 41 is different as you can read in many other posts. I would set your E_Steps_Per_MM to about 10 times greater. Mine calcuated out at 620. I experimented it down to 460.

This was the firmware that was able to read opto endstops with no hardware modification on ramps V1.2
However it has limited M code functionality.

I converted from Gen3 electronics to Ramp V1.2. Used the opto endstops from my Techzone kit and wiring it per the ramps website. used Tonokip firmware const bool ENDSTOPS_INVERTING = true and they worked find. I had to check a few versions of this firmware in order to get one that would read these endstops but I wouldn't recommend reversing wires or you might blow your H21LOB. You will kn
