Printing issues ...
If i remember correctly, I set my themesters to 0 and my min temp to 0. That let me test things. Been awhile..

I would check the fuse, the big yellow one above the power inputs. It may be tripping. Also check the connectors for power both input and connector for the bed, the may be starting to melt, once they get hot enough one of them maybe breaking contact.

Ahh I see.. that is a geared stepper, not a nema 17.
For a diffrent extruder, look at the geag wades, there are a couple dirct drive extuders. Mounting another extruder may pose a challenge, unless you are able to print a new mount. Or you can fab up something so you can print a good one.

The outside connector is to power motors, hotend, and D9, if used. Along with power to the boards. That is the one you must connect. The inside connector is for the heatbed. And with using a 10 amp PS, i guessing you are not using one. If you are that power supply won't work, it is too small. You would need at least an 18 amp and that is maybe too small.

What model extruder do you have? There are a couple of versions used on the i3. My guess is the standard wades. There are plenty of manuals to put that one together. Check out the wiki and seach for the type of extruder, you should find the links for instructions. If not, if you know the type someone here can point you to the correct manual.

Axis X,Y,Z,E. yes it is the micro steps(1/16) to move 1mm. The *8 and *1.1 are multipliers. It is just as well to use whole numbers in place of the equation. 1520*8/3 =4053.3333

Power supply working and connected correctly? What electonics are you using?

I had an issue like that, caused by my extruder being partially clogged. The back pressure would build up, and the hotend would just ooze all over the print. The other peice of this was very weak parts.

What speed are you printing? It looks like missed steps. Also check the vref on your steppers.

What temp do you have set in your slicer program? I think you are correct the temp is dropping below the melting point. When the hotend is at 230,before you print, does it extrude?

Changing the layer height should not effect the height of the object. I would recalibrate you extruder. The bulging is normally caused by over extrution.

You should and and almost need PID set, it controls how your hotend controls the temp in the hotend. Without it you may have uneven heating and that can cause jams. Go to the wiki and search for PID. I think some time reading wiki may help you in your printing adventure.

What kind of hotend? What are you heating it with?
My guess is whatever you are heating the hotend with is wrong or defective.

You csn use wire to jump the trace, that is a common practice. I suggest soild wire instead of stranded, just for ease. Does your fuse show sign of being burnt, the fuses are self reseting after they cool, unless it's been destroyed. I think you are safe to repair the board and apply power, worst case it does not work. If that is the case check the power at the fuse. The mosfet switches to groun

Wow that is a huge amount to cover in a week. I see you cover the mechanics and coding, but not the electronics, or i just didn't see it. I'd like to know how it all works out. I have been asked to spend 3 days at my kids high school to cover 3d printing, after seeing your list, my heart rate is a little faster. I have been wondering what to cover with them, your list will be invaluable to me as

did you set the vref on the stepper drivers?
you can also download the test software to see if things at least function.

what type filamet and what temps are you printing at? might be you are printing at a too low of temp for your filamet.

I can only think of 4 things
1. The springs are weak enough to cause the bed to shift
2. Maybe your acceleration is too slow, or too fast.
3. Hotend is loose enough to shift.
4.firmware problem, reload the firmware, i would build a new configuration.h file (assuming it's marlin)
All of those are long shots, but it's my guess.

If it printed correctly at a slow speed then i would expect it to be a machine issue. Is your bed heavy or leveled on springs?

If you slow it way down, can you see it printing with the corners bowed out? If not then i would guess it is shrinking. But that is a very odd problem.

That looks like an under extrusion problem. Is the extruder calibrated? Did you measure the filamet and input that number in your slicer program? You can and should try a different slicer to see if things look better. I use either cura or slic3r depending on the print.

What do you mean by setting the thermistor table for the buda?
With in your configuration.h file you have to set it for the correct thermister, so it reads your temp correctly. After you have that correct, you can run the auto pid, to configure for temp control.

Sounds like your stepper drivers are over heating. Do you have cooling (heatsinks and a fan) on them?

That is what i did.. just finshed printing the last part to make mine more reprap then rapstrap. I printed a new frog for the bed, x ends and carraige, einstein variant extruder ( my puchased wades was printed very poorly) and i picked up a couple new motors to replace the questionable ones I have been using. Iam excited to do the upgrades, but also a little fearful because it works pretty well n

Try adjusting the acceleration seting in the config file, you may have to slow them way down. Did you adjust anything in your configuration. h file? Set your themsister table? Set your endstops? We will need more information about your printer and set up to answer your other questions.

You can check at a local hobby store, i was surprised while looking for some metric screws, they had those connectors on the shelf.

are you sure the temp is reading correctly? did you set the thermister table for the buda? maybe try turning up the heat by 10C and see if it pushes easier.
