Printing issues ...
If the extruder worked fine before then i would look for other causes (ie the hotend.) Does the hot end hold constent temp while extruding? Did you get a esmaller orifice the the j head? Does slowing the print down solve the issue? Can you push filamet by hand easily? Do you get the expected extruded diameter for the orifice size? These will help give you an idea of where the problem may be, and

Did you reset you vref? Or have active cooling on the ramps. If it is shutting down after for running for awhile, that would be thermal shutdown from the driver and the ramps would need cooling.

I think the prusa is a better printer.. but that is just my opinion. Not sure which has less printed parts, I'd have to look at the builds. Printers are a great source for parts, scanners too.

When I started out trying to figure out what to and how to build my printer I started here .
I looked through the designs and read the contruction manuals. THen I based my printer off of what I learned from them.
If you have access to a laser cutter and a 3d printer now, things should be easy. You can get the lay outs for parts for the laser cutter, and you can print your exstruder and other

if you look at your GCode in a text viewer do you see an
M104 S230 ; set temperature
command?
It should be near the top after all of the commented out ( settings.

I looked through all of the settings, the only one that sticks out to me is the E.
It is not hard to set the E steps to be closer.
in your case
you expect 10mm but get 9.75 with a setting of 108
the math is
10 / 9.75 = 1.0256
1.0256 x 108 = 110.7692steps
you can keep doing the math until you get exactly 10mm
I normally use a little more then 10mm when checking.
the bad part of this is it d

You could just add the gcode for this in the slicing program, depending on which slicer you are using. Slic3r has the option.
Edit: maybe i miss understood.. was my suggestion what you were asking how to do it?

Why not put feet on the printer to raise it up?

is your z-height set correctly in the configuration file?

Jpan,
You seem to be throwing all kinds of parts at your printer but not looking for the root cause. The only thing that will get you is an empty wallet. Maybe you have and not documented it here, or i missed it in one of yor 3 current threads, but you should really start at the begining.
1. Does the arduino work correctly.
2. Plug the bare ramps in, no power. Does that work correctly?
3. Pow

None of this will fix wall thickness. This is just to make sure that when you tell your bot to move 10mm, it moves 10mm. Wall thickness, and I'm sure I'll be corrected again, is your extrusion rate and layer height. You also need to calibrate your extruder.

Ok so don't print.. when i did mine i strapped a pencil to my x carraige and taped a peice of paper to the bed. Moved it, measured with my caliper, and did the math.

to set your steps use this formula
(expected size)/(actual size) * current setting = value for steps
so
20mm cube / 19.8 acual cube = 1.0101
1.0101 x 78.7402 (current step setting) = 79.5356 <- enter this value in your steps
print and remeasure and adjust again until you get the result you are expecting

Did any motors work? I think i would wait until the new RAMPS arrives, or you may be buying another mega too.

I think that it is a common problem. I replaced mine with wire and an external power plug. It was a 4 prong PC power plug ( the 12v 5v used to connect drives).

I had a similar problem, mine was caused by the power connecter on the ramps. It melted itself to the point of no contact, but looked ok on the outside. So i would also check that there is power on the back side of the connector.

From the marlin readme,it looks like M104. Or are you thinking adding to the current temp setting?

I had that problem, I had to revesre my x axis. only problem now is Pronterface is backwords. I know I can fix that too, but I'm living with it for now.

I would verify the thermister is good, with an ohm meter. Did you apply 12v to it ( turn the heater on while attached).
With it disconnected what does your ramps report?

Check the pulley. Make sure it is not slipping. Also check the wiring, could be one of the connecters has slid out of the housing.

Don't sell your self short.. that is cool. I would like to know more about it.
Does it work along side usb, lcd?
Can you give more detail in it's functions?
Nice work..

What kind of power supply? And how many amps? Does It ever recover or do you have to shut off everything?

The motor on front or back would not make a difference, it rotates the same way. Facing it left or right, would change the that.

Try connecting the usb with the ramps removed. If it connects check the diodes. I think it is d2 behind the fuses that burns out and sends power down the USB. if you run with the USB connected all the time, then remove that diode, and see if it will connect with the ramps connected.. you may want to pull the driver boards also to test.

lol.. I paid 9.50 yesterday for 16 m3 screws and 12 m3 nuts. from the local hobby store. the hardware store wants berween $.15 to to $.45 for each peice. my son was with me.. I told him to to tell the wife.. unfortunately in the US we pay a premium. you can order them on line and get better prices, but sourcing them locally in the US is expensive.

You are missing steps, your pulley is slipping, or you are binding up. Check your vref, tighten the set screws, make sure yor are moving freely.
