I have most stuff on my printer working pretty good except the top surface.
I'm using Cura 14.03 and recently downloaded Pronterface.
Can't seem to figure out what to change to get the top layer to not look like this
Can someone here tell me how to fix this?
Thanks!

Thanks for the input; very good information.
Apologies about off topic, I posted before I realized I was still in the RAMPS forum. I copied it into the right place too.
Thanks for answering here.

Just realized I posted this in the wrong forum;
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to hear opinion on what is the optimal minimum distance from the bed to the nozzle. Right now, using Pronterface, I measured 120.80 mm from home to just holding a piece of paper in place - I can slide the paper with noticeable drag. Not enough pressure to score the paper when I slide it around under the nozzle.

Hi Everyone,
I'd like to hear opinion on what is the optimal minimum distance from the bed to the nozzle. Right now, using Pronterface, I measured 120.80 mm from home to just holding a piece of paper in place - I can slide the paper with noticeable drag. My calipers say the paper is 0.107mm (0.00425in) thick.

So, I found the problem;
I was misunderstanding min and max again as it relates to the Z axis; Z_MIN is all the way up to the nozzle and Z_MAX is all the way down. saw this in my above post:
// ENDSTOP SETTINGS:
// Sets direction of endstops when homing; 1=MAX, -1=MIN
#define X_HOME_DIR -1
#define Y_HOME_DIR -1
#define Z_HOME_DIR 1
And realized the switch should be telling the firmware tha

Are end stops enabled in your firmware? I believe that they will report stats even when not being honored.
They should have been, it worked before I took it all apart.
// corse Endstop Settings
#define ENDSTOPPULLUPS // Comment this out (using // at the start of the line) to disable the endstop pullup resistors
#ifndef ENDSTOPPULLUPS
// fine Enstop settings: Individual Pullup

Here's my problem:
Had to take the electronics apart. When i put back together, the Z endstop doesn't work. When I do a M119 command in pronterface with the switch depressed, it says z_min: TRIGGERED, but the motor doesn't stop.
Any suggestions on how to fix?
Thanks!
